We have seen servers risen, fallen, transferred since 2012. Population increase decrease, classes OP, all the rest. Anet themselves claimed population permanently dipped after every tournament ends.
This current WvW model isn’t effective for keeping the losing side coming back, and that is one of the most difficult MMO decisions that has to be made. How to keep the losing side fighting, when one cannot reward the losing side for losing.
Guild Wars 2 has a treasure trove of lore, three warring servers that are now linked with other servers. We must keep in mind that beneath all this Arena Net needs to make money, the loot bags we get from players don’t pay their internet bills that take our incessant 11111 in lagged out fights.
I personally believe it’s not a lore breaker if we are able to ask for help from the Gods, after all nothing in WvW done affects PVE currently. Say two days after resets (since resets are always busy) We can invoke the power of the Gods by buying their services (I have never played EVE online, but I believe to have an advantage over the opponent you have to spend real life money, look at where they are today).
Imagine this scenario, the server that has the lowest score are able to invoke the services of Enchanted Armors found in Auric Basin by buying services (maybe through Gold or Gems, whatever) from human gods in WvW. Enchanted Armors are low damage but have high CC capabilities specifically intended to disrupt blobs. They can only be activated say when a 50 man enemy blob is within the map or keep. Separating these blobs so that smaller groups at least have a chance so they won’t die from mass spam AOE. They would have to be significant enough to matter.
The winning server with the other server they are working with usually can only invoke services such as higher gold reward, or server wide Magic Find boost or whatever that offsets their expected cries with the side that has the armors. But nothing that can help them win in a blob fight.
The whole point is to:- Allow the smaller servers to have a fighting chance, keep players spending more so we can play more of our favourite game.
PS: Commanders are the heart and soul of a server, I like how Dragon Stand’s mid lane gives new players the feeling of fighting a zerg so they don’t freak out when they see a blob in WvW. If players have an option to see a commander’s AOE circle, say a warrior commander Earthshatter’s into a group of 10, his/her AOE circle that can be toggled on/off in the menu can be seen by all in his/her squad for say like 3- secs and then it disappears can really help a commander alot.
