I may be missing something big and so forth, so would someone care to enlighten me?

A lot of wvw’ers play the gamemode as the endgame mode, for those, the choice of stats, including food consumables is important. PVP system even if (I doubt anet would spend more resources on wvw than pvp for this matter) split into separate pieces, wouldn’t offer same flexibility.

It’s mmo, I don’t see the problem in spending some time to gear up a character, even newbies can do that. Most argue that the stat advantage is unfair, yet getting asc trinkets is easy, rings drop like flies in fractals, and just from log in rewards people get tons of laurels. Now the difference is rather small between full asc vs exotic armour+wep & asc trinkets. You still think asc trinkets are hard to get? Then mmo isn’t for you.

If wvw would end up with amulets like pvp, it’d drive away many current players and those that don’t win fights now would only wonder why they still don’t win them when every enemy should have same stats as them. People just like mental excuses for lost fights. Check the screenie, tho not about asc gear, it shows what people want to believe to.

To be honest… this “progression” argument (against Standardized gear) makes as little sense as the “power creep” argument (in favor of Standardized gear). If the stat boost is minimal, you shouldn’t worry about having it, cause it only gives you minimal benefit right? But on the other side you shouldn’t worry about not having it, because if you don’t have it you don’t have a big disadvantage compared to people who do have it.
It’s a coin with two sides.

I think the most common argument in favor of Standardized gear is that you get more choices and easier use of the variety of builds guild wars 2 has to offer. You don’t need to tweak stats, you don’t need to get your inventory crammed with full sets of gear, you don’t need to save up for overexpensive runes etc. If you really enjoy grinding your ascended, go for it, the world is still open for you.

I would stop playing GW2 completely if they did this. One of the better features of WvW is that players get to use gear that they earn. Those gear and food differences also allow a wider set of performance builds than sPvP.

I wish they would try balance for WvW in mind, make it more accessible for even casual players, to run the right gear, but doubt it’ll happen, unless they volunteer themselves.

Same here, though I would love it if they added a merchant that sold common level 80 food in exchange for badges of honor to make playing the game mode with stats in mind slightly less expensive.

The argument I’m seeing that at least makes sense is “WvW is a mode where players use what they earned”, main point being that the feature of this is that earning your gear to be strong is the important point.

This is not impossible to work with, of course. It’d require some brainstorming, though.

For instance, WvW Abilities currently in the game and various other locks in customization can be put in place so those who work for it can widen their options while those new to WvW would still be locked into more constrained build options. Even allowing specially allowed Ascended Stats for some level of accomplishment can be allowed, thus earning higher tier WvW customization. WvW stat sets could be drastically more expensive than they are in PvP so that you might either earn them via WvW-XP, or buy them with gems/gold. This might help balance the economic problem somewhat.

I understand this is not a fool proof system, however I believe the original idea has many pros that WvW would benefit from. Instead of dismissing the idea entirely because of a few key negatives, it might be much more beneficial to work out the kinks of the design. This is all assuming, of course, that you aren’t opposed to the core idea itself but simply discouraged by possible consequences of said idea.

Bad idea and not needed.

Fixes a small issue and creates numerous more. Solves a short term problem creates a long term one.

After a months play you should be even with everyone else.
I literally have taken 5 characters from low single digit level to 80 in WvW and felt no huge disadvantage.

I like trying out new builds. WvW is the only place that matters. PvP has it’s thing but it’s different and I prefer it that way.

Would rather have a couple extra gear slots with a swap button, so that I wouldn’t have to go in to the bags all the time. I’d pay gems for that. Keep it so you have to be out of combat but simplify the gear switch.

Terrible idea. Tons of threads asking this same question. Please stop as a dev just might get it in their head to do this. Although, probably not as that would require a bunch of programming.
