Would adding a 5th map to WvW reduce queue times?
Just make Eternal Puzzle its own BG map.
Main: Hunter.
They have too many maps already.
It should. I can see why they would be limited in the number of players they could have per map, or operating off the same physical server. But an extra map could exist on a separate server, meaning it could hold more people.
The only question is, what theme would ANET chose for it ?
I’d want something different to the others. Maybe a map that is mostly underwater, though that would require a lot of work designing towers/keeps/etc and siege weapons for it.
Yes, another map would help queues. But I think it’s too early for that since we’re all still learning how to play on the current maps. Overflows for practice or whatever might work better as an interim step. Even letting us know the real-time queue depth for each map would help spread the people across the maps.
Starting Tuesday, the queues might get a lot more bearable since a lot of players will probably go play with pandas or something.
move your guild/friends to another server
make another World your home if your worried about queue times
They need to update their hardware; that’s the real problem.

This.
There are servers out there that have HUGE queue times and there are servers with nearly ZERO queue times.
Make a move and get in the battles more often.
Myrmidons of Kryta (MOK)
Blackgate Server

No, it’s not.
Adding another map would just spread servers that can’t already cover all four during certain times of the day even thinner. Population just needs to be more evenly distributed across the servers. Right now, people are all swapping to winning servers and it’s throwing everything off.
Therefore, I second the notion that if the queue times are too high for you; move to another server, even if that server’s losing. Sure you won’t be on the winning team anymore, but at least you’ll be able to play, right? You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

They should have some scaling which is determined at the start of each matchup. They need to hit a sweet spot where each worlds forces are always equal (and therefore hit capacity at peak times) but not so much that the queues last any measurements of time that exceeds half an hour.
4 is already fine for most servers, maybe even too much for the smallest ones. However High/Full servers feel like they could fit in an entire extra map.
Of course they should not only scale the number of maps to server population, but the reward required to attain the related WvW bonuses. We can’t give the low pop servers more reason to drain now can we?
If all else fails they could even scale the amount of maps to the hour of the day. Closing and disabling all points in Eternal Battlegrounds during the 6 most off-peak hours or adding a second neutral area like EB at the 6 most peak hours.
This would resolve things like guilds staying up until ridiculous o’clock for cheap, uncontested captures. Or the fact that the French-speaking EU servers are largely buffed up by French-speaking Canadians while everyone else is sleeping.
Scaling the maps per server based on population only exacerbates the problem. The overall population of the game needs to be more spread out. Adding more maps to Full/High servers only enables crowding more.

Maybe they shouldve used daocs 12 year old technology so there could be real rvr and not this lol queue bs.

Would you rather have queues or unbearable lag? DAoC was also a niche game with 250k players and was less demanding on the client’s computer and servers. GW2 has 8x as many players (2mil from last estimates). Additionally, you’re probably on one of the high tier servers; might be best to switch. Hopefully, ANet is working on allowing guilds to transfer their perks to our servers in order to better facilitate the population spreading out a bit.

You’re on ET, the third(?) best server. You should expect high queue times because people from the servers that you have beaten jumped ship to bask in your awesomeness and clog your queues.

What does that have to do with their hardware not being able to handle the current number of clients? If that’s the case, then why are we still the lowest populated server? Should think before you speak…

Your queue charts show differently. Even if you are the lowest populated server overall, your server has one of the most active WvW participation levels. The hardware can handle the number of clients across all of the servers on off-peak hours. Just not on ones with extremely high WvW presences. One hour queues on peak hours is acceptable, however I know the queues on some servers go significantly above one hour because of the participation level on those servers.
The solution is to move to another server, as some servers have next to no queue at all even on peak hours. In short, the hardware would be less of an issue if those who wanted to play WvW dispersed out amongst all available servers, rather than cramming onto the winning ones.

My guild did move. It did reduce queues for a short period. Then Emery Bay started winning, people moved to it, and queues got worse. Last week we had 20 minute queues, yesterday the queue was 2+ hours.
Moving is not a long term solution.
Eh adding another map is like adding another freeway in Southern California; it might make things better for a while, but then it’s just going to get filled up again, because it’s not reducing the number of cars on the road.
they should make more puzzle maps for us to camp in xD
Another map would just hurt servers with a low population.
Adding a 1v1, partyVparty, and guildVguild system for the right to represent your server in WvW, on the other hand, would be nice.
No… because we would still be left with the huge issue of invisible players and high immense of lag during peak hours. If they upgraded their hardware it would alleviate these issues. If people are experiencing high queue times, and not transferring to low populated severs that is their problem; as it has already been fully discussed. No need for a 5th map, just spread the community.

Adding more map will not change anything. On top servers you have over 1000 player queueing on prime time. Considering that a map can only contains 170 player or so, that would not change anything.
There are servers where you can not field a single full battleground in prime. Those servers could take a couple thousand players each from the current overpopulated servers, and would have very minimal queues.
This is what ANet expect but this will never happen because almost no one wants to go in a low population servers.
I don’t think there is any way to fix this. They can only slow down the inevitable by removing free transfer to big servers.
Another map? No. Changing the themes of the other maps so they can be the same design but at the same time feel different? Yes.
