Is there any good reason why two servers couldn’t occupy the same Borderland -
Allied up, as it were,
People would retain thier server loyalty, but would be running alongside another server defending the same borderland. Here is an example of what the matchups could look like. I tried to even them out as best I could.

This idea is funny but would be baddddd for EU.

There are 4 Differend servers in EU.
German,French.Spanisch,Others.

They all got differend playstyle differend way of thinking.
They also have differend language.
Not that i wouldn’t follow a German/French/Spanish commander.
But teamchat with (Bleiben Sie auf Tag) would be a bit wierd not even sure if its correct german but you get the point.

This is gone be wierd or frustrating.

I was just thinking about this before I read your post.

To be honest I really like the idea, BUT there are so many who completely reject the idea of server mergers, and this smacks of merger. I really think this would be a great one off event that could really ignite interest.

I think the thing that really holds all of this back of the fact that NA time is generally solid for all NA servers, but the offhours players have really concentrated themselves into T1, and, to a lesser extent, T2, which would make the matches fun during NA, but KTrains all the rest of the day.

No it couldn’t work. Communication would be a problem because servers would constantly be rotating and there isn’t a built in voice chat for this game. This would be a huge advantage for the bigger server.

Putting servers like GoM and AR up against Yaks bend would still be a steamroll because AR and GoM don’t have good off hour coverage. That means the first couple days you would have huge queues during prime time and then after several days of waking up to everything on the map being sieged and fortified people would decide to PvP or earn gold for the week.

Lastly not everyone likes the map to be 100% full. Some people prefer smaller scale skirmishing fights. And a good chunk of the time the server struggles with that many people on the map and you see mass dc’s and skill delay.

Would AR and GoM do better vs Yaks than HoD did this week? plus don’t forget there would be Dragon brand in the mix also.

well you could replace AR with CD – im not saying these are perfect matchups, but maybe anet has better stats and could make an evenly matched event, I think it could be fun.

… You’re missing the point. Our servers have good primetime coverage, but we lack off hours coverage. Why would we want to trade our fun matchups with relatively equal sized servers for a match where we spend primetime sitting in queue and the rest of the time our server is getting kitten stomped by vastly superior numbers?

it wouldn’t work, just to make an example: SoS and BP togther will have not even half as many player as JQ.

When watching the matches of the last league, I had the impression that more or less WvW-population halves per tier.
So T2 has half of T1, and T3 has a quarter of T1, and T4 has 1/8 of T1, and T5 has 1/16 of T1, and T6 has 1/32 of T1, and T7 has 1/64 of T1 and T8 has 1/128 of T1.

You have to merge all of T2-T8 into 3 servers to produce merged servers that are able to compete with T1.

This. The higher tiers have eaten up most of the off time coverage. So even 5 people in off-hours makes a huge difference on bronze. So for example if you combined SoR and AR you would just get lots of queue’s at NA prime time, and still get ghost towns during the off hours. They might be able to get approx 5 people going through most of the off hours from both servers combined, which is then supposed to go up against however many a T1/2 server can field ?

Isn’t this essentially what EoTM is? With the only difference being the map you’re on.

And as someone else has already said, this essentially a server merge, and server merges don’t fix anything, at best it temporarily shifts players around against their will, which is no different to what happens now, minus the “against their will” part.

This would make server rotations even more confusing unless the paired servers are permanently paired up. In that case, they’re pretty much merged servers so there would be no point in that. Lets not forget server pride that comes afterwards.

Looking at the match ups, this would actually kill WvW even more than now due to the fact that the Tier 1 and Tier 2 servers would steamroll any server that is T3 or a combination of two paired servers. The problem is that T1 and T2 are way too populated, thus any match up between those two tiers and any server T3/Combined Tier would result in even more lopsided match ups.

Even if you were to pair up two servers, the gap between T2 and T3 can not be mended by simply pairing them up.

I’ll take the AR/GoM example since I play on AR. With that pair up, we’d have a good amount of people for NA. Unfortunately, we have no SEA/OCX so DB would roll us then, and then during the day we’d probably be outnumbered by YB anyways. Even worse, if it was FA/DB/AR+GoM then we’d be waiting for the next match up since even with both servers combined FA has too many people on NA Prime.

The largest issue I see playing in high tiers (mainly T1 and T2 since game launch) is that there is less and less offhours as you move down servers let alone tiers.

If you saw some dilution of the offhours coverage from T1, and to a far lesser extent T2 to T3 and lower you might see a resurgence. If you merged EU and NA servers, which would make significant offhours improvement to all servers, you would definitely see some of these lower tier servers rise.
