Would you rather...
I have both and prefer necro
Prefer playing Necro or having one in your group with you? :o I feel like I have to work much harder to support on my Ele than I do just spreading conditions and things on my Necro.. so I am wondering if it’s worth it :P
well necros are very powerful right now in zerg versus zerg
It really matters what you prefer…if you like supporting and buffing your mates and having multiple varieties of attacks go ele…if you wanna be a pain and hit massive conditions on enemies and fear them of cliffs than go necro
Asuran Engineer (Lost)
necro and ele are both www characters. It doesnt matter what u will choise ) just test it on spvp
I see so many guardians in WvW, I’m starting to wonder if I should bother playing a Necro or Ele :P
coz guards and warriors are basis of meele raid =) if u wont see them u wont see any good guild raids aswell. Actually i play ele and guard, if our raid have fewer guards than eles then i log on my guard etc =)
Ahhh haha I am not sure what to play QQ
What I can do with my Necro right now makes me smile from ear to ear.
Ele is a horribly complicated class to play well.
It has some very useful skills but they are scattered throughout a huge array of ‘meh’ skills and you need to constantly swap ‘attunement’ (read weapon) to get at them.
Juggling the many cooldowns by memory, i.e. without being able to see the counter most of the time makes this a nightmare.
Having said that, I do enjoy the mobility and Ele is far more survivable when solo.
Yeah I think I’m down to Necro or Guard now.. Ele just seems a bit too.. clunky for me personally. Thank you for your input guys <3

I disagree completely. Ele is by far the most fluid and fun class I have played (I have 80 warrior, guard, necro and ele). If attunement swapping is really an issuefor you then maybe change your key bindings a little bit or something, after a short time of playing ele I barely even notice that I’m doing it :P
The cooldowns aren’t actually much of an issue either tbh. In fact I find it to be less of an issue that with other classes, because with ele as soon as you finish casting one thing another is ready again. Just get a bit of a rotation going.

Its a little bit of both. If you’re starting your first character, you won’t notice the complexity in the midst of learning the rest of everything, and you’ll pick up combos/rotations/cooldowns pretty naturally as you level. If you’ve played anything else, the ele will probably boggle you a little bit because it just plays so differently.
In either case, once you get a solid feel for cooldowns and setups you won’t even notice the complexity, and it gets to feeling really fluid and fun.
Then once you get good, you can pull all that complexity out of your rear end and toss it at anybody who tries to mess with you. Dueled another ele from GF the other day and the fights came down to times under the cast time of earthquake. There’s really nothing quite like it.
Elementalist – Necromancer – Warrior
Ele isn’t that complicated to play. It’s like a lot of classes where they’re easy to jump into and do well with but really reward individual skill. Thieves are another such class.
It’s very easy for a ele to go in, cycle every skill and attunement on cooldown and do well. As they develop and their skill grows, they start to build patterns into this mashing of buttons and the Ele rewards you well for the effort you put in.
I’d say Ele’s are more useful to zergs and are more interactive (fun) to play. Necros are powerful too, but a little more straight forward.
Having mained an ele since beta (& good old Guild Wars ) I like mine, sort of.
You do have to spam keys like hell all of the time, but just part of the mess that is gw2.
But….you`ll be stuck in either melee or ranged & due to the crap combat mechanics in this game, you can`t always bag/swap when you need to & I guarantee, if you try, something will tag you & you`ll either have no weapons or just one dagger equipped :$
Ele` is good for support, although guardian does just as well, but you`ll probably be somewhat tanky to survive as everyone will go for you before anyone else as you`re an easy kill, especially if you go glassier to smite the enemy nasties. Oh, & if you do die & have to run back you`re on your own & staff won`t save you more often then not.
Necro, you have melee & ranged at any time. Your hp is also a hell of a lot higher combined with three health bars too, so you don`t have to go tanky builds or gear, meaning you can also throw out more damage on top of your fears to help the zerglings.
Sure, you can`t heal your zerglings like you can with an ele`, but that`s not your problem really is it? ;p
All depends on who is going to pay for your repairs each time ;p

Rocking Wizard Wars until this mess of a game is fixed…
Ele’s sure do after play the keyboard fast constantly moving through the attunements…
Its a real nightmare when you get skill lag and can’t switch attunements or do any other skill than 1…
Eles have the distinct advantage of picking up two daggers and being a great solo/skirmisher build with high mobility. Necros while powerful are one dimensional in comparison.

But we don`t have high mobility any more. Guardians can out run us, warriors rangers & scummy thieves even more so.
As for necro, they`re actually great for roaming & it is what I use mine for.

A norn necro with the leopard ult can be a force to be reckoned with as a roamer.
Have a necro or an ele in WvW? I am torn because I feel like the condition damage/spreading Necros do is really important, but I know that staff eles bring a lot of condition removal/healing to the table..
Hopefully this is the right forum to ask this in.. Sorry if it’s not..
and erm uh thanks!
For group play, ele 100% for the water fields.

Ah, yes. The best ‘run away fast’ button in the game.

I completely disagree with that assement. Ele with D/D:
Perma-swiftness, Burning Speed, RTL, Lightning Flash, drop Fire Sword and gone. If something does get close, chill/stun anything that hits them or simply chill anything near them. Armor of Earth and Mist Form both provide easy stability. A decent bunker who knows how to cycle the skills is a real PIA to bring down and almost impossible to do so solo if they want to run. Even if you can catch one while avoiding the condition/control they spit out, they just tie you up in combat and go for another cycle until they get close to a door or find an ally.
As for necro, they`re actually great for roaming & it is what I use mine for.
“great for roaming” must mean something different to you. Sure they have a high health pool but they are slow, have few escape mechanisms and solo they are pretty easy to manage. Really good players can be a handful but “great” roaming classes/builds need high mobility, good escape and solid combat skills IMO. Otherwise they will get killed going to a place, ambushed by more players while in a fair fight or have to remain very close to a spawn point.

Spectral walk & horn make necro more then fast enough. Add to that you can use signet of locust (which I find I never need).
Got someone chasing you, flip camera, drop staff aoe marks all over the place along with spectral wall, turn & splatter them with dots aplenty & fears to stop them even tickling you hehe
Thanks to the huuuge hp pool that necro has, you can wear none pvt toys & throw out much more damage & not have to mash a hundred buttons to achieve the same result.
High health pool, several health bars courtesy of lich kin…I mean lich form if used or any of the other elites, except for the drill nosed pet. F1 another hp bar.
Constant fears.
btw, be quiet about the FGS use for movement, anet already said on a live stream they`ll be keeping an eye on this, which we all know means it`ll get nerfe…I mean fixed….

The cooldown is too high on Spectral Walk and its animation makes it REALLY obvious what they are doing. Most of the better roaming classes already run permanent swiftness or near it. The better roaming classes have multiple gap closers on tap, generally several abilities that create a lot of distance and some way to reset/escape a fight.
I am not debating necros being capable of roaming in the right hands. I am debating them being great at it. They can be kited too easily and have effectively zero ways to reset a fight. They are IMO the opposite of being great at it which by my definition is must be at least top 3 to qualify for a great adjective.

Necro was my first character in gw2, but I didn’t like it that much. I have to admit I only got it to level 34, though. I find ele a lot of fun mainly because of access to skills on 4 different attunements.
