any help on a how to for WvW would be incredibly helpful. i’ve been in and out of WvW and have NO IDEA what’s happening. People just seem to run from place to place without a sign of why. it does say “a new event has started” but i don’t always see the crossed swords or any other indicator.

Try the topic Stickied at the top of this subforum titled “The Basics of WvW guide and more!” That’s a good place to start. Other than that, the best thing to do is just get out and play, that’s how the rest of us learned .

yeah I adore the game and its mechanics – the PvE has me roaming everywhere… curious about what’s around the corner! the WvW has me somewhat confused by all the running from point to point. yes I read the sticky… and I’ll research more on the wikis available.

I guess this says it all! narf!

Lowbies, newbies, solo players: even if you are of low level or skill, you can help!
-stay back from the fight and rez dead so they can get back in the fight
-finish off dead enemies
-run supply (from camps, not outposts!) to build seige weps
-man seige weps so deadlier players can get up and close
-buddy up and kill yaks and sentries (we get points)
-escort yaks to outposts
-scout map to find enemies

A few tips:

1) You’ll likely be running…a LOT! Equip skills and/or traits to increase your movement speed. If you have some build that is perfect for you but doesn’t include a speed buff, then develop the skill to swap to a utility speed buff when running from point A to point B and then swapping back to your combat-oriented utility as you near a battle.

2) Carry supply…ALWAYS! Your supply inventory is indicated at the top of your screen next to the icon of a barrel. Supply is used to build siege weapons and repair damaged gates and walls (move near the siege weapon, gate, or wall and press F to build or repair). You can carry a default of 10 supply; WvWvW skills and guild upgrades will permit you to carry a little bit more. Make the effort to get supply from a camp rather than from inside of a tower or a keep. The former regenerates, the latter does not; towers and keeps can only be restocked by the slow-as-snails Dolyak Caravans.

3) Personally, I’m not a fan of zergs (large groups of players following a commander icon around the map). However, for someone new to WvWvW and just learning the basics, following the zerg gives you the security of strength-in-numbers as well as anonymity so you don’t feel as self-conscious about making a mistake. Find a commander on the map (the blue diamond-ish shaped icon) and follow them.

4) Set achievable goals. You’re not going to single-handedly capture Stonemist Castle the first time you play WvWvW. Start with some supply camps and work your way up from there or just go where the commander/zerg go.

5) The following may appear to contradict #3 a little, but learn the map. Be willing to roam around a bit – solo even – and just explore; learning the layout of the borderlands and the Eternal Battlegrounds. Accept that you will likely die a few times as roaming groups of enemy players hunt you down. Try to avoid roads; use less well-trodden paths and the waterways. Learning to navigate the maps is invaluable. Run them a couple times so you become passingly familiar with where most things are located.

As you play, you’ll start picking things up and learning more and more each time. As already stated, the best way to learn WvWvW is to do it.

Ask in the map channel for your worlds teamspeak.
Probably the “People just seem to run from place to place without a sign of why.” is caused by all of them talking and following commander orders

  1. get connected with your servers wvw community, getting the community website for your server and joining it will open a lot of information to you on how that server plays wvw.

many servers have free teamspeak or free mumble servers setup so you can join them and listen to commanders on the map.

hmm few important things

1 DO NOT buy upgrades if u don’t know what u are doing.there is always a certain order to follow and if keep is under attack while u have no supply, because someone hired merchants is no fun at all.

2 find a commander that has a lot of followers and run with the group

3 most of the servers have Teamspeak, so that one will help u a lot.

4 dont take supply from a keep or tower if it is upgrading or unupgraded.u should always have some on u to build siege and repair,so go get them from the camps

5 don’t repair the walls with keep supply.don’t wast supply if it is being trebbed.go get supply at camp and help building countertreb or ac

just a few things to look out for.

Know your server colour (Red, Blue or Green). Any colour that is not the same as yours is a target – these are, for the most part, the dynamic event equivalent.
Each server (colour) has their on Borderlands map and there is a central map, Eternal Battlegrounds.
I suggest you start learning the ropes in your own borderland. There are “dynamic events” you can do other than taking camps, towers or keeps. The quaggans can be flipped in each colour’s favour in the lake. There are skritt to the NW and centaurs to the NE. Dolyaks can be escorted and is always welcomed.
Taking a camp solo is not all that easy, but most hardened WvWers can solo flip a camp even if it’s fully upgraded.
Taking a tower on your own: well it’s possible…
Taking a keep on your own: not a good idea…
Taking SM on your own: screen shots or it did not happen :P
Defeating a Legendary Defender: The aim for most WvWers to prove their ultimate strength. Try it I double dare you

At your spawn point are (or rather could be) two NPCs with a commander tag. Don’t confuse these two (Siegecrusher and Siegeraizer) with player commanders just standing there doing nothing. Shouting at- or insulting them for inaction won’t harm their feelings in the slightest. These also count as events and will start once 10 people gather on them. They give each person in the area 10 supply and start marching (at a very composed pace) to either the NE or NW towers. Stand in the circles and build the blueprints they drop. Attack said tower with vigour and high fives all around when you flip it in your favour.

Learn to deal with death, since you will be kissing the ground lots and lots. We all do, there’s no shame in that. Get up, dust yourself off, wipe the tears and pledge your revenge.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!

New players to WvWvW that don’t run with large armies will soon quit due to frustration. Until you learn the ropes, a new player will not be of any real use so running with the accursed BLOB is really best anyways.

The biggest mistake people make IMO is waiting until level 80 to try out WvWvW. Low levels can make an impact on a battle in surprisingly positive ways.

And BLOBS are fun ;-)

thank you all for your input! I died a LOT today in WvW and had a great albeit anxious time doing so! I’m working kitten my thief build and I think at lvl 35 today I’m starting to get a better idea of what my build is. I’ll keep dusting off and getting back out there – I love the idea of fighting in such large groups.
