Dear Anet,

My suggestion to balance the our current WvW :

Everyone get a free transfer to the Lowest WvW Ranking server of the week.

Transfer Limit : 3 months after a free transfer.

If the person wish to transfer again after a free transfer within 3 months. He/she has to pay gems for another transfer.

Basically, what those threads are saying shows an underlying issue of free transfers. If free transfers are offered, often times large guilds move that server and massively stack it up (HoD, KN). The servers can then skyrocket through the ranks, but they often times end in many of those transfers leaving the server suddenly. This leaves the server in a higher tier, but with a significantly smaller population. It also takes longer to go back down the ranks than to go up, so often times the server slowly trickles down to their original ranking (KN), but that can really hurt the population. If they offer free transfers, and have it be maintained, that what you would probably see forces hopping between these servers, even if its every 3 months, which would cause quite a bit of instability.

While I’m sure ET wants some transfers, I doubt you want your server to get massively overstacked, and then dumped in a higher tier the moment those transfers decide to leave to the next low tier server. I mean, look at the last season: people COULD have transfered to ET for free, but instead many transferred to HoD for free, massively stacked it, and now many of those guilds are leaving (and I’ve heard they’re leaving things in a bit of a wreck, though thats mostly through 2nd party people)

Free transfers are anything but free.

The price is your guild members leave, Communities ripped apart, Servers Implode.
And as the bandwagon fall back down the tiers, every other server will show you how to earn the rewards rather than be given a handout.

I see. That makes sense. I’m sorry to hear about HoD.

The problem is ET’s population is much much smaller than any other NA server. We just don’t have many players… at all. Frankly, and I’m not speaking for everyone on ET but I would like for us to have a chance to get “stacked on.” While it sounds messy and problematic in the future, ET’s population is very far from steady. ET will continue to shrink and unless ya’ll essentially want 1v1’s on t8, something ought to be done.

Honestly, and I expect many (most) won’t like this, but what they need to do is offer free transfers to NA T2 servers. Everyone needs to stack into six servers and hopefully it’ll be fairly balanced.

Question is, are there enough people playing in OCX, SEA and EU time periods on NA servers to even fill six servers?

Yes we do want less stale matchups. Six relatively even servers would give a good number of different matchup posibilities.

I don’t think there are enough people playing WvW for more than six servers. Maybe nine.

Even in T3 its fairly sparse except for reset night.

Fights are still to be found on T8 and I enjoy playing on ET. Really the only thing I dislike is there are just too many times that we are outclassed pop wise. I still kinda feel the opposite that you do. The problem isn’t that there aren’t enough players in silver/gold… It’s that there are too many players in silver/gold.

But thats just me.

Some number of free transfers should be available to lower population servers in each tier to balance out populations. It wouldn’t take many transfers to help balance out a tier. It doesn’t solve coverage and won’t fix the underlying population balance problem but it would go a long ways towards helping it.

How about turning it into a mega server wars from tier 4 and below. Keep servers intact but there will be 5 servers per color randomly mixed weekly within their own current tier so there will be a random tier 4,5,6,7,8 per group. New allies, new enemies per week for variety and different outcomes plus more people/guilds for blobs and coverage as many people wanted it. The challenge is the ratings however (not that it actually works as intended). Merging Tiers 6,7,8 even though a temporary fix will still not prevent people from over stacking the current tiers 1-2. People will always pay any price just to be in the top 6 servers. Devs should find ways to keep and reward server loyalty. Also the current wvw population is only like 5-20% of their potential in all servers. A lot of wvw people probably got bored and stop playing altogether or played other games. So yeah wvw need a lot more attention than the other 2 game modes.

I see the side of both coins. Some people enjoy low pop servers some super high pop servers. I do think that dropping down to 12-18 servers could help this a a lot. This would leave the bottom 3-9 servers depending on 12-18 with relatively smaller pops compared to higher tier. I don’t think there really is any way to “fix” the prob of population on lower tier servers as of right now. Though merging the bottom 6-12 could fix that.

The other solution would be everyone has their current PvE server (though mega servers make that matter less) and everyone chooses their WvW server out of 12-18. Soon as you log you are promoted to change server if on one of the ones removed or something similar. I know this is not idea, and would be first come first server, but an idea none the less. I do think that guilds/communities should have priority if the same named servers were used. Else guilds would just have to communicate and and coordinate where to go.

Something else that could work to is ever x amount of time everyone has to re select their WvW server, would cause some guild issues but good change ups.

The primary reason to transfer these days is due to WvWvW. Tier-based transfer pricing would be best.

Seems fair enough… Ratings represent the wvw value of the servers so should price…

Better transfer costs are a step, but still miss the incentive for going on a (at least so far) loosing world. So it’s only once side of the medal to pay more for overstocking, still you need a reason to move to a lower pop world.

Tournaments have clearly shown, people pay to get better rewards, so a lower pop world needs better rewards as well.

We already learned it the hard way. People will seek the “greenest server possible” if you make it tier based. For example during free transfers there were

Silver: HoD, NSP, CD

Bronze: DR, AR, Ebay, Kain, ET

They all went HoD and everything else was ignored.

If we put same price on tier 8 no one would ever go to ET and that server will never
have any chance of getting transfers. Same way if you were to choose between
FA, Yaks Bend and Sbi Looking at their current match-ups any Tier 1 or 2 transfers
would obviously go FA then might as well make that server just “slightly” expensive than the rest. I do believe we should discourage transfers to servers who will have an “obvious” win in their current match-ups and encourage them to go to a red server first and foremost then blue server. Green is sure to win in 6/8 matches (without randomized)

Hrm good points.

My only concern is that servers could game the system by purposely trying to tank their matches. It’s easier to tank a single rank than a whole tier.

How about a 1-2 week grace period before transfer prices change. Or an average per month. Thus for that month your price is based off of rank x and changes each month or less even. That way tanking is more detrimental to your server than just week by week. Tanking multiple weeks in a row can hurt a wvw community (casual players at least).

Tier based or rank based is good considering randomized match-ups. The only
point is we should make pricing slightly higher on destabilizing transfers and
discounts on balancing transfers. Either way 100 or 200 gem difference won’t
hardly matter on those whose prices are above 500 gems but it will surely help
the bottom 2 servers get a few people and groups to create 3-way match ups.
I highly doubt guilds from tiers 1-3 these days will band wagon a tier 8 server
due to what happened with KN

From hearing some of the Bronze posters on here I’m thinking we’re playing a different game too. Either you all are talking about a small window of time period where everyone gets on and fights. Or you all have more people than Silver.

There are definitely not too many people in Silver. Its a ghost town much of the time. I’ll log on and see if anything’s happening. Its not, I log off.

On topic. I don’t think transfers are the solution at all. No matter the transfer pricing or incentives to transfer, transfers are NEVER going to balance out the populations.

It would have to be a miracle of divine proportions for so many random people transferring to create balanced servers. And if history tells us anything, it actually makes things worse.

There are much better solutions out there than transfers.

I apologize I didn’t mean to make it sound like we are playing a different game in a bad way. The tiers have different play styles is all.

Maybe ya really ought to check out bronze. I’m just guessing but perhaps in bronze you can make your own action and partake in smaller but meaningful battles. On ET for instance, a 10v10 can mean a keep cap! Siege is difficult to keep around (no pun intended) but maybe it provides for more fluid gameplay and more give and take. This gives the illusion of people always up and moving.

Idk! Perhaps someday I’ll need to try silver too… See which “game” is more fun!
