Hackers wrecked that aspect of the game. Anet basically caved in to them because they didn’t want to do to the work to police it properly.

Hackers wrecked it because it was really poorly designed. That you didn’t have to kill the lord in order to destroy the altar. so they would just fly in, destroy the altar and let the orb reset itself.
During the era of Orbs, was perhaps the best time in WvW for gw2. It created a system that would allow a realm to choose to sacrifice an objective in order to focus on defending the orbs. it made WvW matter.

Hm, was that the orbs that made that it the best time, or was it simply: It was a new game, and you weren’t aware of all the optimizations and failures you know now.
I agree that the first year WvW was much better than the 2nd, but Orbs existed only for ca 4 month, and I never really played the orbs, I was mostly on EB while they existed.

Anet has yet to address their poorly designed maps and exploiting into every keep is still possible. Fix that before even remotely considering any Relic / Orb mechanic.
No better they do as my suggestion was, paper camp/tower/keep/sm is worth nothing in tick and were little to cap, then the more it get upgraded the better tick you get and the more points you get to cap it, defense point they can also race a bit but not as much. (defense point on paper should be high)
They can only bring back orbs if they remove the hackers.. And those have been plagueing WvW for years now, so I wouldn’t count on the orbs reappearing..

They could bring the orbs back if the meaning of the orbs would be minimal for the hackers and high enough for the actual WvW people.
Basically OP’s suggestions would be exactly that, except I’m not too sure about the +50% MF etc., maybe if it was 20%?
But yea, I would like to see the orbs again in WvW. It was really fun mechanic when they weren’t hacked all around.

Hackers would hack the orbs even if they had 0.1% MF, just for laughs.
I enjoyed the orbs, aside from the hacking, we would actually have a reason aside from PPT to defend or attack particular keeps for one, and escorting the orb was quite fun some times as well.
You currently do not see hackers flying into keeps, and killing the keep lord and flipping the keep. Which makes me wonder if they are simply not able to do it.
And with that, having the orb/relic be tied to the life/death of the NPC that holds it(even tho the hackers don’t know which keep/tower/altr NPc is currently holding the relic..) it would make it very easy to track down the hacker and dispose of them.
Different WvW zones don’t make for improved WvW.. if the meta of WvW is the same, then WvW will be the same no matter what newly designed zone(EoTM).
