I’m not seeing the difference from before when adjusting the options at all. Has anyone else been experiencing this? People keep rendering only after i’m next to them.

Also it might be just me but i think the zoom is a little adjusted so you can zoom out a little more?

P.S. The titles that are showing for every char are crazy, i just wanna turn them off.

Go into your options > graphics … the adjustment is near the bottom. It appears to work for me well, I’m seeing the entire zerg.

Im stuck at work . Can anyone confirm that culling is a thing of the past. Can you see the enemy zerg coming at you from 1500+ range?

WvW is down at the moment, so no one can really get in and test it out. It’s also WvW only so we can’t test it in PVE in the meantime.

VoTF got in for about 30min prior to WvW being taken down. Culling has improved while we were having a 3 way but its has not been removed from the game at all. You can see 1500+ range with enemies but not if there is a kitten ton of them on screen culling is still quite selective and sometimes you cannot see enemies or their name plates.

The fact it says “nameplates still appear for all characters” is either misleading or untrue.
It is noticeably better though.

I also got in before WvW crashed and can’t see a enemy zerg from distance better. The changes seem to fix only that the characters don’t disappear when they are rendered near me like before.

Culling is -not- removed. There is a universal limit on all servers of 300 I believe, in addition whether it is server side or client side if there is still a phase in and out you can call it what you wish but it is still -culling-.

There is (in every game in existence) a “Max Render Distance” for how far away objects (including character models) are graphically displayed. They never said they were removing that.

What they did do is change how the Server updates Clients with nearby player/object information. Before that information was “throttled” Server-side, ie “Culled” and it no longer is.

So yes, Culling IS removed but also yes Client Side Graphical Rendering delays will still exist.

After playing for 30min after servers came up we had around 40 people in WvW from Deso, there were similar numbers from SFR and Viz around our tower. My point is that there is still “phasing” involved and the “name plates only” option isnt actually an option just yet, name plates render first then the players after – there isnt an option to just have name plates only.

We engaged SFR first only to not see any Vizunah move towards us until we moved away and they “phased” in then we engaged them and more SFR phased in right on top of us. There was also a situation where Viz had ranged players sitting near the tower that werent “phasing” in at all. There is still plenty to do but it is much better.

Culling is removed. Deal with it. What you have now is a decision by the system what to render. Over 300 default is nameplates only. Then there’s the values for full rendering and low qual rendering.

You’ll see everyone. It’s what you see of everyone that has been changed.

I believe now the primary issue lies in your own computer’s specs and how much you are able to handle at any given time. Better systems will see more players at once and at farther distances where as more kittenty systems will feel like the old pre-patch culling.

After this fix, that shouldn’t happen anymore.

Had a similar sized battle to that screenshot. We lost but it was freaking epic. All those people and not one bit of skill lag either.

I think they fixed that too. I mean, in that screenshot I am seeing people on the walls, much further than 20 feet.

Someone post a screenshot of the max distance at which you can see the zerg.

Name tags are kind of obscene with that many players, although I guess it’s that way in any MMO.

Maybe they could make them less large though.

Edit – Scale name tags so the farther away the smaller the tag becomes.

The culling fix is sweet other than the titles but it sure was nice watching 60 SoR run back to their Garrison from Cliffs even though they don’t have coverage in EU

I only got a decent comp yet i can handle the culling settings on max no problem. Its fixed if you ask me, i even made a lil video showing it (and a fight or two as showing JUST mass ammount of people felt a bit strange)
