WvW Format and Burnout
If you look at the current rankings, there are maybe two or three (maximum four) NA servers that would not be a certain blowout for your server … no matter which server you are on. No matter which side of the blowout you are on, they aren’t much fun. Your proposal means that about 85% of the time the matches will suck.
For that not to happen, the outmanned buff would have to scale variably to the number of players from all three servers and it would have to apply to most siege as well as players. It would probably also have to apply to both protection and damage abilities. I think you grossly underestimate how complicated (and arbitrary) all of this becomes.

Burnout can be stopped very easily by shortening the length of the matchups by maybe about a day. Ending on Thursday instead of Friday and giving us 24 hours before the next matchup instead of like 10 minutes can alleviate the constant need for some people to be in WvW at all times. Most of the time by Thursday the match has been decided already anyway and no one plays at that point very seriously. You wouldn’t even need to shut WvW down for that 24 hour period you just need to stop counting points and let people have fun killing each other for 24 hours.

People burn themselves out by playing too. It’s not the games fault. Too much of anything will burn someone out. No one should be expected to play so much. Why are certain people fixated with the idea that playing the same server is a bad thing? While there are small minor differences between servers, it’s essentially the same thing different people.

I think burnout is a result of lack of options.
It’s WvW time! What am I going to log in and do:
- Attack or defend a tower, keep or camp
- Flip NPCs
- Escort dolyaks
- ???
That’s….pretty much the extent of it. It’s not like I can work on building a new outpost or increasing my guild’s presence in the world or exploring new territory or making any real lasting changes. The list of “things to do” is too short and as a result, people burn out. Farming up loot and titles won’t really help, I think, because those aren’t new activities so much as incidental events to activities you were already [tired of] doing.
It doesn’t help that there are really only 2 maps, so the strategic variety is very narrow. There’s only so many times you can attack Hills or Bay before you need something new and while that will be true no matter how many maps there are, it happens a lot faster with 2 maps rather than, say, 15.
A game that’s 100% WvW

Burnout in Wvw…… nope not for me.
I really dont care about attacking of defending anything. I look to kill other players to help our server
and killing players never gets old.
Indeed to the post above me, if you play to just kill the enemy server’s guilds or players in general. Than getting old WvW does not.
I think Cactus is pretty spot on with the weakness of server population. My suggestion was only a shot in the dark that perhaps if things were switched up people might have less of those full out blowouts. I’m surprised though that no one called me out on my horrible math since it’s 3 servers per bout instead of 2.
I agree that maps should be changed and an addition of more choke points. There are very few places where having the “high” ground means little more than being able to treb SM. The only other option is to change how the game is played rather than who you play against. I think perhaps developing “trap” points that allow you to lay traps for other players and create mines and such that are 1 use only siege might help break things up.
EDIT: On the point of PvP. I like PvP and I think coordinated PvP is fun in a group. Sadly on the team channel and within my current guild there is little coordination for small roaming pvp. I’m forced to either roam alone or go with the zerg. You either use teamspeak or the team channel. Few people group up like for a dungeon raid to just pvp.

I think burnout will happen on the servers where people are having to cover more hours than they normally play. Granted that it is their choice to play more, this choice is largely influenced by the lack of coverage on the server.
If you had one server that had people playing from all over the world versus a server with Americans playing for very long hours. In the long term, the latter will crash and the former will survive. The international server can provide 24 hour coverage in a natural way whereas the other server needs to pull all stops to get 24 hour coverage. The former is healthy the latter is not.
Lack of activities is definitely an issue. If I could build my own walls and keeps around the map it would open up much more to the game and introduce more logistics and you have a game where preparation for a siege matters just as much as the siege itself. Introduce wood, stone, gold and food gathering. Introduce pack and move siege weapons rather than blueprint instabuild. Let us build castles anywhere on the map.

I agree burnout happens especially from facing the same opponents over and over again. The reset plan would have fixed this although the other consequences were arguably too severe.
The answer to it has been proposed but it seems it will never be implemented ie. 1st moves up 3rd moves down.

Some people just play… too much. Thats the only reason for burnout. OCD as gaming theory?
Try PvE, tradeskills, spvp, Fractals, dungeons, another game…or even watch TV for a week. Then come back.

They play too much for a reason and that is because they have an interest to compete but need to work harder to be competitive because their server is disadvantaged.
Playing less is easy on a 24 hour server, because you can log off and there will be people online to defend your work. The international population does WvW in shifts on these servers.
On non-international servers, there is no international population to depend on, there is no one to do a shift after you log. If in a football match two of your defenders got a red card then you are 9v11. You can not take on the extra work just as you can not bother with nightshifts. But you’ll likely lose and it goes against people’s competitive nature.
It’s called attrition. and it’s in every war since the start of time. If you want to keep on fighting and winning you got to be able to get more people to keep coming out.
DB forever!!
It is actually sad if there are people who play that long every day. The game is supposed to be about fun. It should not be the main focus of someone’s life.
As for most of us, it is nice being able to play whenever we have time. I like the 24/7 format.

I have to agree with what is behind this door. It’s like people here are blaming the game for having no self-control over their bodies. Lol, ya get burnout by not allowing the mind to rest and recover. The brain is not a fricken computer processor.
If someone wants anyone to blame for lack of control, look in the mirror. It’s just a game. It doesn’t matter who wins when the mind and bodies’ health comes first.
WvW is more interesting if the matchup is competitive. I agree they should throw 1 or 2 more maps in the rotation to add spice. They don’t have to be bigger or anything just add more stuff to them. Like eternal is well designed in my opinion there is enough random stuff going on to keep it interesting.
I find the borderlands kind of boring but I just like killing people so I can deal with it but I find eternal alot more fun to play in than the borderlands.
