I recently hit 80 on my Ele. I still have my crappy leveling gear on. I’m so sick of PvE at this point, there is no way I could start doing dungeons or anything else PvE related. How can I gear myself up to be effective in WvW w/o doing anymore PvE?

Trading Post is the only non-PvE money maker. WvW drops are a joke as is the reward for taking an objective. In about 6 hours of WvW I make 1g.

agreed on the rewards you can get 60 dungeon tokens in just over an hour

60 WvW tokens will take a heck of alot longer

Reading between the lines from your post, are you saying that all the gear I will need can be purchased with gold?

Since gear isn’t normalized like it is in sPvP, will I be kittened if I’m unwilling to spend hours farming gear in dungeons?

Take objectives in WvW. This gives you Karma (a lot of it at L80). Alternatively take a Karma booster before you chug your Karma jugs from your monthly/daily. Go to the Cathedrals in Cursed Shore/Malchor’s Leap, when they’re open (there’s a PVE event chain for each one, randoms usually open them fairly regularly) purchase exotic gear for 42k karma per piece.

A bit of advice; no reason to stick to a particular set, just mix-match the gear that gives you the stats you want.

Alternatively collect badges of honor, with a good guild you should be breaking ~150-200 badges per session.

0 gold and 0 PVE needed whatsoever.

You can get exotics from crafting and all that jazz, just means levelling crafting. I made my full exotic set in a few days but you can do it in less.

The rewards/drops in WvW aren’t great, you can farm 1-2 gold pretty quickly in PvE but if you’re a good WvW player and you upgrade locations, buy siege blueprints and basically help your server you’re never going to break even in fact you’ll never reach legendary because you’ll always be dipping into your fund for repairs too. I’ve only ever found 1 exotic in WvW and that made me 6g…. I’ve been playing WvW since the game began, well a week after it launched soooooo the returns are pretty dire compared to PvE

Well, you have an option of buying equipment in WvW for karma and badges but the selection is rather limited. NPC’s that sell it are at spawn.

Wasting karma on WvW invader gear is pointless considering the exotics available in the “Orr” zones. The Cathedral gear is on-par with Invader badge-gear.

Use greens until they release “ascended” gear. That’s what I’m doing on my alts.

You can get exo:
1. From karma vendor in orr (in each temple and door to Arah).
2. You can crafting.
3. Do dungeon. Do Ascalonian Catacombs (exp).
FYI: They dont care what your gear is >>> especially ele (as long as you dont die too much and know how to evade), spawn frost bow, aoe, whatever you have. And boom you get 180+ ascalonian tear a day (from all 3 path for about 2 hr runs). Boom you get full set of exo in about 1 week (you only miss 2 hours WvW everyday)
4. If you have 20 g, you can buy them in TP.

FYI: gear progression in WvW is suck, you can only get exo from drop or badge honor gear merchant. For badge of honor, you can only get it if your damage is superior from the rest of the zerg, or RNG if your damage cap to the threshold.

You gain Karma incredibly quick in WvW so I suggest you get Gods armour from Orr. Save your badges for WvW for buying prints etc. That way you will still make some money from WvW and still get your exotics without doing any PvE or dungeons.

The only problem is (not suere if this is al servers) getting the temples open (FoW is hopeless at this) you will usually need about 10-20 people to open the hard temples.

crafting is not really an option since it will require him to PvE for the mats. Unless he somehow magically makes tonnes of money from WvW which I doubt will happen.

5 ecto per piece of armour not to mention the orihalcum ore needed. Basing the price of Ecto at 22s thats over 1G per piece of exo armour. Full set cost around 6G to craft if you don’t farm mats.

Added you need to grind crafting to 400 which will cost another 4-5G (depending how much mats you have picked up a long the way to 80 on your Main)

11G for a set of Exo armour…. and he has stated he does not want to do ANY PvE. Crafting is not a realistic option unless you make money in WvW for a week.
