WvW: Guardian vs Warrior
Lurk around on the Guardian and Warrior Boards, then ask away.

Well if you’ll be spending alot of time in wvw then warrior might be better simply for the ranged weapons which are always handy
Guardians have challenges in wvw due to range ineptitude and being slower than obese turtles but I wouldn’t trade mine for a warrior because the survivability and crowd control is second to none in my experience. Though if you like bludgeoning people to death, you might have more fun with a warrior. Conversely, I just rolled an engie about 2 weeks ago and the versatility is a nice change of pace for me as I’ve played guard since launch and the learning curve is much gentler than the engie. So again the warrior might be better if you don’t want to suddenly be limited in your skills and roles more than you’ve been used to.

I am horribly less than agile and swift on my guardian, and I have crap for range, however warriors I have faced once reaching 80 are a joke. I do however realize most run stupid little cannon type builds but yeh dodge then proceed to lay the beat down. retaliation is my friend.

Both classes can fill similar roles on the battlefield, and both can use a hammer..
Guardians tend to have more survivability with various forms of damage mitigation (aegis, protection) and healing power. Warriors tend to have more overall damage output, especially in the ranged category (scepter guardian is okay.. not great). Both classes are capable of orienting themselves for group support with shouts, banners, bubbles, etc.
Why not play both? It takes no time at all to level a character to 80.

Warrior is so versatile that most anyone can find a build for them that they like. CC, support, ranged, greatsword, condition are all good builds for wvw

A good guardian will destroy a glass cannon warrior. I run CC hammer and I can go toe to toe with guardians.

Are you saying I am a good guardian? “blush”

Pick a Guardian if you want to sit behind your sissy aegis all day while your spirit weapons do all the work.
Pick a Warrior if you give zero kittens about personal safety and just want to make your enemies explode.

Speaking as someone who has played a fair ammount of WvW as a warrior, you dont’ have as many get out of jail free cards as other classes. So don’t expect to spearhead a Zerg vs Zerg assault and not just get destroyed…unless you are on voice coordinating with other heavies.
If you are the type that enjoys running with small groups for camp flipping and small scale pvp then it’s a great idea. you can trait your warhorn to give your group of 5 almost perma swiftness, and the kind of burst damage a warrior can do lends itself very well to small skirmish combat.

It’s not all that different from PvE, really. Both classes are very useful, Warrior even in support spec has more offense, Guardian more defense.
Depending on what you want to do specifically the lack of a viable ranged option on Guardian might be a problem. In siege situations you’ll mostly be supporting.
I love both but I find Guardian a bit better for my playstyle but no range really. AoE’s seem better with Guardian due to the fact that your not planted in one spot or forced to move in a straight line (As far as GS goes for both). That and retaliation builds are yummy.
point of view of a mesmer:
IMO
warriors: only dangerous ones are the ones hitting you from behind while all your skills are on cd. some need more time to die but seriously they are not that dangerous as many say. they become quite dangerous in a good team while others do the cc.
unfortunately good warriors are really hard to catch :\
guardians: 1vs1: one of the more dangerous profs. many tricks and not as easy to read as warriors.
xvsx: THE prof I watch out for. they have GREAT cc (not that garbage like root or stun) in form of knockbacks, pulls, “cages” and good damage, nasty, dangerous stuff.
if they are accompanied with other good damage dealers they are quite the force multiplier.
I often roam solo or in really small groups and would engage any enemy group 1:4 IF there are no guardians around :P (then more like 1:2)
so please play warrior!
I have never lost to a Guardian, on any of my Warrior builds. O.O
I have 4 fully geared 80s, among them an 80 Guardian, and an 80 Warrior. By far the Warrior is much, much easier to play. The Guardian Meditation build heals for roughly 22% more than the Warrior Shout Heal build. Virtues for the Guardian seems to be weaker than the extra damage you can do with the Warrior, and the Warrior has a better choice of weapons (and abilities on those weapons) by a big margin.
Conditions should be a non-issue for every class in the game thanks to Sigil of Purity, and bunker builds that do not utilize Precision, with Sigil of Blood, and Omnom Pies, are not utilizing the better bunker builds available to them.
As for the Mesmer above, I’ll admit the number “5” Greatsword ability for the Guardian makes dealing with Mesmers easier, it just doesn’t make up for a Warriors superior abilities against every other class in the game.
There is just so much potential for the Warrior, and I change my Warrior build virtually every match-up.

warrior: a lot ways to do a lot dmg and good hp, suprisingly can also heal well if traited that way.
guardian: mediocre dmg but more boosts/heals for party and yourself, low hp
It depends a lot on your playstyle and personal preferences tbh. I haven’t found yet a working warrior build for myself. My problem with warrior is that I need to stop movement to do some nice stuff but with guardian I can keep moving and leaping around fast. (I have no idea why ppl say guardian would be slow :p)
For Guardian your range is meh, and you’re slow with no real escape mechanics. Other then that it’s great. Good dmg and great survivability.

We are talking about versatility here, it seems. If you want versatility OP, ele is the best without doubt. Certain bunker ele builds have great CC, Damage and tankiness with healing. Have a look at ele.

Guardian > Warrior in general. Warriors have limited condition removal making them meh in large scale fights. Guardians are a little limited in the range departments but you can make up for that in a lot of ways. But just to put it in prospective I can’t remember the last time I lost to a Warrior in a 1v1. They have too little condition removal and their burst is highly predictable. I’m not the type to say willy nilly that I can’t lose to a class either because I’m not that good, but warrior has some serious flaws on the PvP side. That said if you have some guys in a group you can do some mad damage with kill shot if you sneak it in there.
TL;DR Guardian>Warrior but if you want versatility go Ele. They can seriously do everything pretty well with one build.

Guardians have a much easier time face tanking, so even a bad one can be annoying to take down if he presses just a few buttons. The good ones are extremely interesting fights.
As a Warrior, you’re going to find that your options are much more limited. You’ll feel the pull to gravitate towards glass cannon because the mechanics for mitigation simply aren’t there like they are for basically any other class that can go melee. However, you can use mobility as your ally, and Warrior gameplay can still be very rewarding. Plus, as people have mentioned, if you want any sort of ranged damage viability (I’d argue Guardian ranged weapon utility is just fine, with Line of Warding on Staff and Chains of Light on Scepter), you’ll probably want to roll Warrior.
Also, Warrior condi removal can arguably be the best in the game, if you spec for it. If you don’t, you have to compensate with a Signet of Stamina/Mending/Runes of Lyssa, and even then it’s mostly burst condi removal, so timing is key.
