Guild Wars 2

I know I’m not the first and only one to post about this but I literally spent ALL DAY in WvW yesterday running around with groups, taking bases and legitimately trying to get this even though I really don’t understand why WvW is required in the first place. They call it WvW but it sure looks a lot like PvP to me. Are there any seasoned veterans that have some tips and/or tricks to better formulate a group that is a little more structured?

I’m sure a lot of you can understand my frustration with the game at this point: (I’m on DR, red team BTW)

Looks like you play at the wrong time. I mean you server is currently leading in this match. There were times when your servers tick is above +350, i.e. much better than on your screen.

to find the strong times of your server.

Another Tip: Next week you likely play a different match with a different color. Get what you can get this week, get more next week, and so on, it’s better to look at the map from time to time, and spend 10min to get a point, that trying to complete in a rush of several hours.
You do not even need to login to wvw there are now several life maps, w.g. http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/map/871 where you can look which points are controlled by which side.

don’t expect to get full WvW map completion in one week. this week you’re the red team, so you should focus on getting all the map completion objectives on the red map (your home borderlands) and the red corner of EBG.

next week, hopefully you’ll get a different color so you can focus on those.

some weeks you go up against an opponent that’s strong enough to come in and take all your stuff so you can’t get map objectives on your own home borderlands or your corner of EBG. there are 3 options here: (1) get your objectives as soon as the match resets on Friday, before they have time to take your stuff; (2) wait for another week when you get a better matchup; (3) watch and wait for opportunities when your team takes stuff back (even if they only take it back temporarily).

Thanks for all the info—I did not realize that the colors rotated every week. That makes me feel much better.

1) I’ve found that good times to do this are on Thursdays and Friday mornings before reset when people aren’t trying to be as competitive about the game.

2) Don’t be afraid to speak up about needing a particular POI if you’re in a zerg. Typically if you’re running on Thursday or Friday, commanders will be a bit more flexible to taking some stuff if someone says they need it. Just don’t expect them to run the group to suit your whim/have them do this repeatedly- get what you can on your own before you do this.

3) Don’t expect to get it all done in a week. Mine still took a few weeks, and that was months ago when my server would literally own entire maps at a time.

Pay anet money to transfer to a server that dominates a tier
or Pay anet money to buy legendary skin from tp

Rotation makes it a bit easier and most servers, apart the bottom ranked, do get occasional “easier” match-ups now.

Still think that map completion for WvW maps is strange. Does it really attract people to WvW or does it make them frustrated with WvW if they just can’t get map completion done? Then there are some people that just take space in WvW waiting someone to cap that location they are missing, possibly trading in spawn or crafting, while eager WvWers stand in que.

As noted above take the parts of the map your side controls (prior to the randomization this is what drove a lot of players nuts such as our server being stuck as Blue for 3 months).

The other piece of advice I have for you… get a thief or three to go with you. Stealth makes most of these objectives cake.

That is one major thing that I absolutely LOVE about this game. Since day one, I can count on one hand how many…let’s call them “elitists” I have come across. Almost everyone has been friendly and willing to help out. Especially for my post here. On that note: I’m actually REALLY starting to get into WvW. It’s a ton of fun when you get into zerg groups and get into huge battles with other players. I’m starting to pick up how trebs, cata’s, ac’s etc. work and upgrading accordingly. I’ve also been researching how the color rotation works and I did see that it is based on ranking.
As far as map completion goes; I’m not as worried about it now. I feel that when I actually do get it, it will be more satisfying like “I EARNED this :]”

I’d like to thank to everyone for sharing information and helping me open up to a whole other aspect of this game!

This is a pretty dumb requirement, map completion is already boring enough as it is, if someone is going out of their way to complete it, it’s not really that fair to obstruct them with two whole servers.

Best thing I can suggest is being on a strong wvw server or being in a wvw guild, if you run around with them you’ll probably end up mapping everything as you play.
