What do they mean by “within range”? I’m hoping it would be like Planetside 2 where only snipers have difficulty trying to find the opponent at extreme ranges, but I’m expecting we’ll still be “pleasantly” surprised by a ball of hostile red named typed appearing “within range” of you.

If this does happen I bet it’s gonna crash servers because they didn’t go threw enough testing.
Please elaborate. What specifically about culling being remedied do you think might cause the servers to “crash?”
They have a limited number of in house testers so they might not have the ability to test Culling on a large scale. Culling is used to limit data band which on the server side and player side so the game becomes more playable. They have stated that the servers can handle the band which increase but I’m wondering if they have gone threw the proper testing of having tons of people loading on multiple servers to see if a server crash may or may not happen.
Was in reality just a joke though because given the recent patch and the lack of public test servers in this game it’s obvious Anet could use more testing with upcoming content. I would hope they have been trying to mess with servers and the game engine over the past couple of months to make sure none of this happens at all.

I know what culling is, they have been trying stuff on small scale in wvw, every time the do people kitten, I feel the change is going to make the burden more of something your computer needs to deal with and will depend on you having the right settings chosen for your computer then we see now.
Meaning even after the change we will still see complaints about culling when it is more likely a poor choice in settings on the players side and they have rendering lag.

I like that buffs are coming for your character. I hope you can’t use them all at once though. It would be better if it helps make people a specialist at this or that.
Well Anet, it is very obvious which game you are copying. But since I played Dark Age of Camelot for almost 10 years and you guys are copying only the good stuff, I really like it!
Does this mean that they will change it, so you will have to earn the rank of Commander, instead of buying it for 100g?
Because I have been saving for a long time, and am almost able to buy it. But it will most likely not happen, before the next patch.
We don’t know how it’ll the new patch will be, but judging from current trends of adding more work, I see a HUGE issue with WvW progression: This might further create a divide between WvW and PvE players, while turning off players who still do a bit of WvW.
There’s already progression for the hardcore with titles. What many WvW servers need are incentives for more players to do their part and participate in WvW. A flat reward system or some daily/monthly incentive seems to make more sense (preferably something that helps in PvE). More participation is wanted, because all those PvE farmers get benefited by WvW players (but certainly not vice versa, inflation being the obvious).
WvW progression, if done wrong, will turn of the more casual WvW’ers because of possible elitism and the sense of hopeless unattainability that may result from the update.
Wow…meaningless titles and passive player versus door buffs…
Underwhelmed.
Pretty much no MMO ships with PvE, WvW and sPvP out of the box. Those that have, suffered bugs well beyond what ANet currently has. ANet could have kept WvW out of the game until the first major expansion but they didn’t and I for one am glad.
Culling affects the whole game not just WvW, and its not a bug its a fundamental design flaw that as the previous poster said never should have made it to launch.

You will probally see all the characters in low res characters and slowly regenerate their armors on your client. It doesnt look very pretty but atleast we can see them
I believe thats what they are doing in march. And after that they are surely comming up with new tech to make that process go faster with less demanding server data and or load for your pc’s at home.
I’m hoping the Special Skills you get for ranking are just like A bleed or a Cripple, immobilize Ect. So it’s nothing game changing just a different skill you can use. I hope the bonuses are different designs or effects to powers. Like a Ele using Blue Fire. A Mesmer’s clones melting when bursted. A rangers entangle be chains instead of roots and so on. Nothing making higher ranks have an advantage over you. I kitten hope they don’t break the “No treadmill” thing like they promised. Keep it balanced.

You guys are already complaining about stuff u don’t know ANY REAL details about. If u read the interview correctly u will know that they wanna make wvw more rewarding which is great for competitive players. It will give u buffs according to your role in wvw which is great.
A lot of people that wanna play support, have been asking for that!

New map is SPvP only. The existing WvW maps are too small, and there are only two of them.
I’m sorry that I’m not as excited as some about new skins or titles as others are.
The scoring system leaves something to be desired. The system still favors the server that has the most representation across the most time zones, rendering the contributions of those who play on servers without a “night time” presence meaningless. Many matchups are stagnant and boring. Orbs were removed and never replaced. The outmanned buff is still buggy and doesn’t offer any meaningful benefits. There is no mechanism to help outnumbered servers compete. Etc…

I do agree with your wishes.I also would love a new map.But look at it this way:
-an spvp map needs to work for around 5 players right?WvW maps have to carry a looot more that that.Every keep and wall needs a different programming.Ther is also a ton of exploiting spots and and and. So a map will take time to make for wvw.
Yes, the matchup is quite boring when facing the same servers over and over…we were matched up with tc in tier 3 for i think 9 weeks or so and didn’t have a chance against them.But hey, do u have a good solution for it atm, that would be fair for everyone? A reset would have been a disaster for many low tier servers.
The ranking system is a new step into the right direction, as it feels like you are fighting to achieve something.I am looking forward to this part!
The point im making is, that now we see that ANET IS listening to us, but we gotta be patient and all your wishes will be 1 by 1 fullfilled.
They know that wvw is a big part in GW2 thats why they have to analize everything first before they change everything.The have to collect all bugs and wishes first and then find a solution and then im sure there will be map changes. To be honest I can’t stand the borderland maps, they are plain, boring and I know em in and out.Lets see what they are going to do within the next few months.

It’s just incredibly ironic they only want to give passive benefits via WvW progression that don’t affect combat on a 1 to 1 basis, yet its perfectly fine for PVE based reward players to come in WvW and affect combat with better stats, and no way to get them in WvW.

you can get ascended gear with dailies atm and since the new patch a daily is easy to complete in wvw aswell.I’m sure there will be more thugh.Can’t wait for new armor skins.

The problem is not the content in itself.
Problem is; Anet say thing like “February and March patch is like 1 extension”, or “Big McM patch” and in fact is nothing like this.
It’s like “no more culling, but with option..” so what ? no more culling yes, but some option to"customize" culling because nobody can manage this without mass lag or other good thing like this … what a f* joke.
So Big WvW patch is what, no more culling(lol) and WvW rank ? and it’s all ? this is the “big” “focused” whatever content… nothing about all the real problem of WvW..
I hope i’m wrong ofc, I have serious doubt on this “focus WvW patch” …

cool, so now they will FORCE render 120 people on my screen (lag me to 1 fps for 31 seconds) then by the time my fps is back to normal, i am dead on the floor and the enemy is out of rage.
Their servers can’t even handle 100 people on the screen, they haven’t upgraded anything.
PredatoR, maybe thats because its not a hardware problem but a problem in the game engine that transfers all this data too slow. Just wait for March before you complain about lag, maybe its good maybe its not.. nobody knows, even Anet doesnt know ( i presume they havent tested it with 80 v 80 ppl in the office )
