Conditions: Massive zerg vs zerg inside Lord room Stonemist (or around inner stonemist)
Many people from my guild (like 20 ppl) i was in said they were having about 15-20 seconds skill delay when inside of the inner SM walls, particularly inside the lord room. There was incredible skill delay for almost all people.
Some blame the culling update for this, and to be honest i sort of agree, since i never experienced anything like this before the last WvW patch. (The old culling has none of this issue)
What is going on?, is ANet aware of this and responded somewhere?
It’s always been like that during large fights even before the culling change. For some reason it’s the worst in SM.
Exactly same happened in euro tier #1 Deso vs VS vs ER, inside SM castle on Saturday. 5-30 second delay when activating skills.
I haven’t seen any Anet comment about this, even though it is obvious that it needs attention. I also haven’t seen Anet comment about people’s complaints about the new “improved” culling.
This even happens in the lowest EU tiers. EB regularly has long lags and it is even worse in Lord’s room of the castle.
I had it on old culling behaviour a month ago in a 3 way battle over garrison… I don’t know if culling is to blame or just that the server can’t handle that many people at one place. culling or no culling.
I think it is a server issue because my pc was performing well and I was able to move my char around and look around so it wasn’t my pc
Culling and lag are different effects, but they are caused by the same issue … lack of server-side ability to process and handle data quickly. I’m not sure how much of that is due to the slowness of the server/engine itself versus the in/out bandwidth that ANet buys, but the root issue is that ANet undersized their system relative to the demands being placed on it.
It is likely the CPUs, RAM and bandwidth are getting hammered during these fights which is why culling was created as it helps curb this issue. At some point even tricks likely culling, AoE restrictions, etc cannot resolve the issue and only help prevent it from becoming worse.
We’ve been witnessing lag on skills in SM when all 3 forces are fighting regardless of culling mechanics, it’s -always- been this way for us when SM turn into the alamo. Lack of culling wouldn’t cause this issue, I would imagine it’s more about how many players are attempting to input skills at once during such a huge fight and sending too much data to the server than it can process during that point in time, either way, it’s a problem.

This happens in all keeps during huge battles. I have seen this happen in Garrison, Hills, Bay, and SM. It has been substantially worse since patch though. I hate when I hit a skill and the skill just blinks for like 10 seconds, if I live that long with no skills lol.
This is a bandwidth issue, arena net needs to upgrade servers
