WvW Midseason Report
I used to get discouraged with the blow out matches but then I decided to change my strategy when it happened. There is more than one way out of your spawn if you are getting spawn camped. If you have a small group 2-5 with some mobility you can avoid those blobs and kill yaks, sentries, guards, flip camps and knock on doors to get the blobs attention. Will you die – sure but if you are out manned you don’t have to worry about armor repairs and there is no consequence to dying other than your pride. If you do these things you are a pain to your enemy and that gives me satisfaction. I don’t care about the rewards or the ppt any more since I started playing this way.

You are ,making the best out of a bad situation on NSP, anyone who still WvWs on NSP has to. But don’t kid yourself, this season 1 is a debacle.
For season 1 NSP has been awarded 7-weeks of horribly lopsided unwinable matches. For our trouble we are locked in for the worst or second worst possible rewards. And as extra icing on that, our most frequent enemies will all have fancy new finishers from the top of bronze league.
I know this is somewhat of an overreaction, but ANet should be compensating the NSP WvW community and whoever else was in a similar situation for our participation in their botched and failed experiment. Instead they are rewarding our most frequent enemies (who allegedly tanked their scores to ensure they would be in Bronze).
I don’t envy ANet’s position in this situation, if they give out bad rewards there will be crying and gnashing of teeth from the top tier servers. If they give out good rewards, everyone else will angry. If they give out the same rewards to everyone then what was the point?
The saddest part of all this was that any consultation would have revealed immediately how bad an idea this would have been.
Good for you. Some of us need a reason to fight, not just fighting for it’s own sake.
And that is one of the biggest issues with todays gamers.
Instead of playing for the sake of fun, they feel the need to get something as a reward for playing. And if you don’t think you are contributing, then you are clearly doing something wrong in WvW.
In WvW every single person is able to contribute in a real and useful way.
We all played for fun and bragging right until they added the rewards. Now we play for the reward. So whose fault is it?
Regarding the rewards, they can’t be that good. If they are super good then everyone will stack the top servers again for season 2, which is the exact opposite of what they want to have happen.
If people played more strategically they could make it more fun. But they don’t so we have what we got.

Don’t get me wrong – the whole thing has been a disaster since it was announced. My sincere hope is that A-net learns from this and there is no season 2 until they fix the elephant in the room, if at all.
The whole concept for 1st place in silver gets more than last place in gold was flawed from the beginning – makes no sense.
i have never seen a statement that has been more wrong. IF Gold League gave the best rewards regardless of position compared to silver and bronze. What would happen with WvW population?
Everyone, their mother, father, grandmother, dog, neighbor, kittenroach and cricket would move to gold league. And the hopeless queues and lags would increase by more then tenfold.
If Anet hadn’t done what they did, you would have seen imbalance without equal. The top 3 T1 servers would be overflooded, followed by the top 3 T2 and 3 servers. Not only would this destroy the game balance, it would rip apart entire servers and leave 20/25 servers, in each region, completely void of WvW players. Even the achievement pugs would follow, as they go where it’s easiest to complete the achievements, which would be in Gold League were they would get the most support.
Currently @ some T1 server in EU
I suspect and hope that guilds reconsider their servers after this. I play on Blackgate and I am losing motivation to play the game. I logon to a 500PPT tick and 60k lead. Nothing to fight for. Hard to find fights. Im told to be patient, that when we face Jade Quarry I will get a fight. But I have to put up with weeks of nothing before I get that. The WvW mode is in a sad state right now. The so called “Tier 1 servers” need to destack so we can all get a fight and a balanced one at that. I will probably leave my server at the end of season 1. I hope others do too tbh.
Good on ya, in order for Season 2 to even be remotely interesting a major tier 1 destack is going to have to happen. I am hopeful with the introduction of the Overflow map early next year ANET has some other plans in the works that will help guilds pick up and move as well as make them want to spread out and I am guessing lower WvW map caps and much longer queues will be part of that which they cannot start until the new map is in or risk kitten ing off too many dedicated WvWers. I look forward to seeing what else they have in mind to incentivize us all spreading the kitten back out.
Xyleia Luxuria / Sweet Little Agony / Morning Glory Wine / Precious Illusionz /
Near Fanstastica /Ocean at the End / Blue Eyed Hexe / Andro Queen / Indie Cindee . . .
You would still have the same amount of players per map. But you could go to any borderland to fight for your faction if it were implemented at this moment as is.
Meaning instead of the 3 borderlands, I could go to 30.I think faction pride would be stronger than Realm pride. That’s just me though.
I actually love this idea, it could potentially solve imbalance issues, unless guilds/players stack to one alliance, which is likely…. human nature, etc.. But how hold you zone the maps? Queue and get random out of 30 available? What’s to prevent stacking on say “server 12” … leaving the other maps barren? And what would that mean for people who have purposefully picked lower pop/lower key WvW servers to avoid the zergs (roamers/small crews, etc)
Just puzzling it out … But I like the idea of how it could potentially free up the queue/pop imbalance issues.
Give each Borderland it’s own name or reconstruct Borderlands into maps mimicking the diversity of the the PvE world.
For Borderlands: New Information Hud showing the entirety of the WvW arena to include all Borderlands. Que for a map as you do now, where ever you and your guild can get in to help the fight. You may even want to reduce the selection to coincide with average numbers of players who WvW on any given day.
You then begin adding borderlands as needed. EB could follow a similar format.
On the info Hud when looking at map, instead of seeing 3 Borderlands, you would see them all like as if you were looking at the PvE map. Go to a zone and do your duty.
If we got an emptied out copy of the PvE world with out all of the quest and Mobs and just the different terrain, same thing. Each zone is split into 3 factions spawn points with objectives like Keep/Tower/Supply camp taking/defending.
I’d even go the route of 1 zone to each faction where that home faction gets a small advantage like how Borderlands are currently set up. Then every other map each faction gets a similar spawn and proceeds to take from there.
I took a look at that dev stream for the new Edge of the Mist map coming. Dare I say that place looks 10x better than the current set up.
*Side note to another post, yeah… I understand TESO will be having a 3 pronged factional system. I hope it has success because that idea always seem to play out better. I played Planetside years back and it was pretty fun and had decent balance Didn’t really get to far in Planetside 2, but that system seems to work. I personally am going to be trying Wildstar because it has a lot of elements of what I’m looking for for both PvE and Open world pvp.
Edit: before I forget, you wouldn’t want to stack just one server like say borderlands 12 because you would lose the ppt for that map. The idea is to play the same as we play now, but just having a larger pool of players. More players playing for 3 factions instead of what we have, easier to cover a lot of the holes we have in coverage in any map that isn’t T1.
As for PvD, you could actually eliminate a few servers to solve potentially a great amount of that. The problem we have now is some servers just don’t have the players. Can’t get rid of them now because of the “Realm Pride” each server gets a team thing.
