Some people would like to be able to show and see the names of the players they’re fightinign against. I can understand both sides of the issue as to why they want it and why it may be bad for business and discourage players from joining.
So here is an incredibly SIMPLE fix…make it OPTIONAL. Default is nothing shows and you cant interact with the other side. However, if you CHOSE TO, you can show your name, see the other persons name and speak to them (or any degrees of that) if you want to. And then there is no complaints because only people that will interact are those that choise that on both sides and thus will be like minded individuals.
Can somebody tell me what the issue would be with this approach?

It doesn’t make any sense. How would it make it easier? Maybe I just don’t see it, but an unamed spy is as efficient as a named one.
I love this option. I hate that decision to be in an anonyme zerg.
Please lets us the option of showing our name or not. Like that, carebear will be able to stay unidentified and live in their ranbow and unicorn world. And I will be able to have some friendly/or not rivalry with people!
I have to think spies mostly use out of game messaging and/or already know the names they need.
The option idea is kind of ok, except that the performance of the servers is soooo bad at this point. It’s disappointing because NCSoft has had games that handled big group combat without so many issues. Regardless, for now if the servers don’t need another “if/then” for info to send at this point. When they get the server-client more streamlined and fluid, it’d be very nice to add this show-wvw-names option.
It’s possible to whisper enemies anyway by right clicking them and selecting report. It will display the players unique ID then and you don’t have to confirm the report.
Adding a Switch/Case in code usually wouldn’t really change much, even if we have 100 player sending data. Well in theory, I don’t know there code.
I think this idea is perfect for people looking for rivalry, and still respecting Anet idea of procasual pvp.
