WvW Overhaul, 2 year+ down the road
It was already stated that they will not deliver a massive overhaul(i will not look for source), but do it bit by bit, which i think is a real shame, but what can you do.
The major overhaul was probably the repair hammer/ cannon blueprints and the mix of abl with dbl.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Where have you been? They have already said they scrapped it all (relatively speaking, we dont know if anything was even being worked on) and decided to drop lots of small changes instead. Which they technically have done.

OK so it was just a big lie then. They hadn’t done anything for a whole year with that large “bulk of programmers”, and WvW has never been their focus at all. They just have the same minimal team barely getting anything done.
Thanks.
Know how many times I’ve already replied there’s no one big major overhaul coming, and that it was already broken into the pieces we got this year. Also Colin hasn’t been running anything in gw2 since like the beginning of the year, so things changed. They had another piece of the overhaul plan which they decided to hold and use links instead.
P.S it was also explained by Tyler a while back
No player facing features for the ‘WvW overhaul’ were started until after HoT shipped. The frequently referenced ‘1 year of development’ refers to our efforts to restructure the WvW backend to actually be flexible enough to support these types of player facing features that we are working on now.

nobody lies on the internet
just give them more time
they are working on it
Im not really sure what massive change people are actually thinking they want. It’s open world pvp, toss players in a decent environment and let them figure out the rest. Fix bugs, if mode dies after a few years make a new map. Well they have made 2 new maps and players didn’t like them, why keep making more players don’t want to play on and instead stick with the 4 year old ones that are frequently qued.
Whoever made the alpine and ebg map layouts should get royalties or something.

Probably not a lie, their work was just scrapped which is pretty poor from them. I imagine a lot of work was done on the battlegroup design in that timeframe, then from whats been said they panicked and went in a different direction at the last minute.

No.
They worked on a plan, it got leaked to the playerbase. The bulk of the playerbase rejected it. They moved on with a modified plan (linking), while examining other options.
If you read this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/New-Worlds .. and I know you have, posting another thread about battlegroups/alliances/what have you when they’ve already indicate it’s a non-starter for the second time; well this thread is pretty much just repeating what was in the thread I linked.
Are you hoping by posting it over and over again, you’ll get different results?
You need to point the finger at the guy who leaked it. Otherwise they may have gone ahead and implemented it without conferring with the playerbase.
I’m certainly glad they didn’t. For reasons stated in the thread I linked, it would have been a disaster.

What’s this?!
Anet said they would do something for WvW but then did nothing?!
This has never happened in the last 4 years of mine playing this game and posting on these forums!
I am utterly gobsmacked to hear that. How did this happen?!
OK now on a serious note, as said above, if the plans got leaked and everyone hated it, it yet again shows that the current devs do not know what WvW is. They dont know what they are doing and continue to ignore us.
These polls are nothing serious, all minor minor stuff, and stuff we dont want either!
Communication is key! We’ve been saying that as well for 4 years! And now instead we get polls which ask us if we want a slap in the face or a kick in the groin!

A trusting relationship with our fans……at least one dev got it. Result wasn’t what we hoped for though. Results: Zerg, overstack more, ZERG, help BG

come on i dare you, why should they care for unimportant things such as world population, class balance or a scoring system that actually works and didn´t need manual adjustment every 2 weeks, if you can develop awesome features like repair hammers which everybody liked…..

And note that we’ve not had another Adopt-a-dev event since!

Still waiting for ANet to fix WvW so that it can become a competitive game mode that encourages “healthy” competition & not burn-out.
How Population In-Balances are used in the game design:
- Original design – Over-stacked servers kill competition. Fix is to block players from stacking, or to move players around to re-balance.
- Competitive design – Over-stacked servers encourages competition. Fix is to make Over-stacked servers a target with better rewards for attacking them…then encourage competitive pressures to force change.
Competitive design - WvW Ranking naturally provides targeting & is allowed to have weight & meaning. Players are allowed to create their own weekly Match-Ups.
Intangible rewards like…Honor & Prestige are un-locked.
Players get a stable place to call Home that allows them to nurture their community of friends & family. Signature below is an alternative to our current state of WvW.
Original design - It’s really tiring & depressing with all these…now it’s open…now it’s closed thing…while shuffling players around to “temporarily” solve things…over & over again.
Playing peek-a-boo & musical chairs is getting stale.
Plus, it’s downright horrible being homeless & then not being able to find a home to move into with this constant & inconsistent way of solving the in-balance problems of WvW.
Also, ANet is now fixing WvW Scoring Improvements.
Please ANet…find a better vision & compass & stop letting players guide you in the wrong direction time & time over again.
Please be very careful when using Polls.
Polls can seriously turn into a Pandora’s Genie Crack Bottle.
Case & point…World Linking…is now making ANet constantly play peek-a-boo & musical chairs with us…imho
Please consider changing the Original game design…instead of allowing the “Majority” of Players to force you to do things through these Polls.
Don’t abandon your fiduciary duty to the “hardcore fans” of WvW that would make this game mode into something truly epic if you allow them to.
There’s a better Long Term Solution that will allow you to generate revenue streams not just off gem sales…if you can envision the future right…imho

It is just too late unless they do something really big to update WvW.
They already annihilated WvW guilds by not supporting any kind of WvW guilds and potential guilds vs guilds. Did nothing to change boring metas (they are probably not even aware of WvW meta games).
How can we expect WvW to be alive and good again when barely anything positive came out from HoT and now they are spending their time trying to fix what they broke with HoT.
Game is 4 years old and to keep a good game mode it would need to positively evolve, instead it negatively evolved.
It’s never too late to update and save wvw!
In fact they should look into billboard advertisement on sides of structures, who would like the defend the [~Coke~] garrison which has snow all over the place, or [Energizer] or [Duracell] towers and make the tower roof copper or silver. Or [Red Lobster] bay, just make sure to add more lobsters crabs and shrimp to the surrounding water, and last but not least [Disney] Castle in ebg.
Probably bring in more money than gem sales and be able to hire a dev or two to help with wvw, part time of course as they have to work on new pve stuff for the expansion too.

I don’t recall seeing a poll on battlegroups. In fact IIRC the leak at the time wasn’t even about battlegroups, I don’t recall them being mentioned until Tyler admitted that they had been a plan at 1 stage.

As I said in my post, there was no poll, the leak came pre-polling that Anet implemented.
Had the news not been leaked and rejected by many, it’s quite feasible that they would never have used polls. The polls emerged after it became clear the direction they were going was wholly not welcomed.
It’s smart. And I have a lot of respect for them to be willing to scrap it in order to find a solution with wider appeal.

I’d be re-evaluating WvW from the bottom up – looking at what they know now, I’m sure they’d have designed WvW differently in the beginning.
Then it’s just a question of doing an Eye of the North/GW:Beyond in GW2 – without making a completely new game, how can you build it to capture the re-evaluated vision?
Probably a bit too ambitious for a dwindling playerbase, but if they do it right there’s plenty of players to re-gain. And of the existing ones – let’s be honest, apart from the combat no-one’s going to miss any part of the current WvW design. Capture the combat, make it work better, and build a WvW system around it that actually excites people again.
