Well the first WvW patch is upon us. Many of us experienced it in full yesterday. Here is my grade on everything

Culling is gone: A

Wonderful job here. Please give the Devs a bonus. We had massive zerg fights last night and could see everything. We didn’t have to worry about culling bombs or anything. In teamspeak it was mentioned over and over how awesome the new engine was. Only negative was the crashes. I crashed four times last night. Everyone in my guild crashed at least once. Get rid of the crashes and I would give this an A+

New WvW GUI: B-

I like the new GUI for WvW. Its helpful to see how each borderland is broken down. This would be an A if we could actually see the WvW map from this page as well as a web page on the guildwars2 site so those folks like me who work an 8-5 job could see it. Daoc did this back in the day and still does.

WvW Leveling System and Abilities: C

I’m glad to see a WvW system similar to other mmos BUT the abilities are boring and lack creativity. I hope you are working on additional abilities.

New WvW items purchased with badges: C+

Its great to see other Armor types that can be purchased with badges. However I am not a fan of adding 2 different currencies to purchase one item. When I buy a pair of pants, it doesn’t cost me 25 dollars and 13 euros. Also when will we see new stat combinations like Power, Toughness and Condition? Still nothing new to purchase here and some of us are sitting on thousands and thousands of badges. I know some guys with over 6000 badges.

New WvW Skins: F

Epic fail here. Great idea, terrible execution. So I get lvl 80 items and put low tier skins on them… I hope you plan on enhancing and filling this out more because the skins available were laughed at by about everyone in the guilds I ran with last night. Can we get at least the dungeon armor skins?

Overall I would give this patch a B.

The culling fix makes the patch worth it. I look forward to whats in store next with WvW.

Pretty much spot on how I feel. The culling is gone for good feels pretty epic. When you see the enemy zerg a good distance away it really gives you that “holy crap” moment.

Here is mine:
Culling – B+

I can’t give them an A because culling should have been fixed before game launched…

WvW GUI – B-

I am going to include nameplates in with this, which is why it gets a B-. If they removed titles, adding scaling to named depending on distance, and get rid of non charater names always showing up it would have been alot better.

WvW Leveling – C

I pretty much agree with everything you said here.

WvW Items – D

Adding a gold sink along with badges to purchase items ruined it for me.

New WvW Skins – Honestly giving this a F is still to generous

I looked at the skin for about 1 min and will probably never go back to that merchants again, enough said.

Overall C-

They hyped this WvW patch up so much and for the most part failed miserably at it. If this hadn’t been the so called WvW centered patch and just another standard patch it would have been ok, but if this is what we can expect from them in the future I find it hard to get excited.

Also let me clarify the C-. To me a grade of C is average so the C- would just be slightly below average. A is reserved for close to perfection and B is above average. So while I might not be overly thrilled about the patch I am not saying it was horrible.

I also feel victim to the hype around it and let myself to get exicted..

Honestly, the whole weapon/armour skin thing. I think people fell victim to their own self generated hype with that. They only ever said it was karma items being made available in WvW. Basically an alternative to going into the Orr temples to gain the items.

They never said it’d be unique, dungeon or racial skins. Some sites took that out of context themselves, and were edited to fix those assumptions.

The abilities were always meant to be mostly passive, and were implemented so that they would not unbalance WvW. I think what we got is good, it’s what I expected, and it doesn’t mean any individual will be overpowered for having any of the abilities. Once again, I think people built up too many unrealistic expectations in this department. Not sure what people wanted.

As for UI, the nameplate thing that many people will mention isnt such a big deal for me. I disabled enemy nameplates and only see names appear when they are close to me, and on mouse over. I don’t see a massive sea of red text.

I also hate the titles below people’s names. I want less text on my screen.. Not more. I wish we had an option to turn it off.

What bothers me more then anything was the new armor. Cool new stats I can play around with, but then ugly skins. On top of the gold cost. Full set is almost 6g and badges too.

Why don’t PvE players have to use tokens and gold for dungeon gear?

Other then that I like the patch.
