Q:
Are there any plans for rewards from WvW?
I’d love to see some incentives for people to participate and for guilds to take, upgrade and defend strategic points.
Suggestions:
1. when a guild takes a point, the NPC’s should display the guild emblem and Tag.
2. guild influence could be earnt based on the duration a point is held and allow guild influence to be spent via the quartermaster on upgrades; and
3. allow guilds and players to earn ranks in WvW as in sPvP – with some sort of reward at each rank.
Love to hear other suggestions as well.
WvW is great fun but to keep it viable you really need to incentivise it and it’s important to do that before enthusiasm wanes not after.

I can’t say too much just yet, but we’re doing some work related to rewards and character progression in WvW even now. It will be a little while before we’re ready to talk about more details though. Rewards, progression, and incentives for play are hot topics around the office. We all care about this stuff and once we have some more details hammered out we’ll let you all know what we’re up to.
Claiming keep/fort seems like such random and pointless thing right now.

Apart maybe for improved stats? But i agree it’s pointless.
As it stands WvWvW is getting boring. Would love to see some improvements in the rewards system for wvw, such as a realm point system similar to DAoC. I have over 2000 badges, which don’t amount to anything really.
DaoC realm point system would be awesome. Rather than skill rewards that risk balance issues some sort of rank based buff system that effects siege gear, guards, walls and doors would be ideal.
i.e. at Rank 3 you might get a skill on a 30 minute timer that buffs the fire rate of a piece of siege equipment for 5 mins and/or at rank 5 you might get a buff on an hour timer that allows you to increase guard level by 1 for 10 minutes and at higher ranks maybe a insta cast supply free seige weapon on a daily timer- like an arrow cart that you could use in defence of a point with no supply.

DAOC was a completely different league than GW2. WvW maps are currently too small in GW2. That and the fact there is basically only 2 unique maps. We need either bigger maps or more terrain variety. Also a WvW ranking system like glory and rank points in sPvP. So you can see who has spent the most hours in WvW they can wear armor that shows they are a combat veteran. Same stats as exotics obviously. Just a visual difference to be able to recognize people by their veteran tier.
I hope balancing out something to equal Ascended items is a ‘hot topic’ in the office. If not being able to get them straight out via WvW, badges, etc.
Because there are a lot of people that play WvW as their endgame and have no interest in being forced to run dungeons to stay on level footing with everyone else in WvW. Which would be ridiculous.
That would be the same as if a PVE player had to go into WvW and capture 100 keeps in order to get gear to have the best chance for them to beat their dungeon boss.
I really hope this is being thought about right now. Don’t ruin the one mode that has actually been an above the board success.

I think the concern is that while you all care about this stuff, you seem to care more about its implication in PvE, ie the new ascended gear. Forcing all the WvW crowd to grind PvE, assuming that is how it plays out given we know so little at this point, to stay competitive while we wait for you to get ready to talk about WvW progression might be one of those significant points of contention with the player base.
In short, better not wait to long to at least tell players what you have planed.
I hope that any new WvW progression system is only world based. You transfer to another server, you start from scratch, pal.
Well I for one hope for a RR system similar to DAoC, doesn’t have to include realm abilities that came with the RR system… just the system itself in place in GW2 for prestige purposes would be awesome! Not to mention how much it would help build community around the server as well so you’ll know who the WvW vets are.
And I agree with one of the poster above, the maps in WvW are so incredibly small compared to us who have played DAoC before. Taking keeps and towers in WvW is practially the norm in GW2 when compared to DAoC. In Daoc if you or the opponent takes a keep it was a big deal in epic standards, don’t get me started on Relic raids :p
Many of us play WvW as our ‘end game’ in so much that PvE isn’t really a challenge, you figure out how the mobs and any map features work, get the shiny things and move onto the next step. I have a few friends that are ‘hardcore raiders’ in our allied guild that play other games that feature a lot of PvE and I can respect their focus.
But, that’s not really a challenge to me, so I’ve not invested much time into dungeons.
Facing a ‘thinking opponent’ in my opinion is far more challenging, add to that, things like badges are automatically put into my bank. I must constantly out-think, manoeuvre and come up with different angles to achieve my objective. Likewise, they’ll be coming up with their own, be it the blunt hammer of a mass assault or ninja attack on a keeps weak spot and undermining supply to cripple a zone’s defences.
That is the difference between a ‘PvE Dungeon’ player and a ‘WvW Combat’ player, we look at the wider scope and think on our feet. We are different and have different needs, all of which are poorly catered for in the current situation.
Our currency is Karma & Badges of Honour, theirs is Cash, Drop Loots and whatever badge-type they have spent time hacking out over time.
IMO, Badges of Honour should buy you any equivalent gear from any dungeon, they are by far the hardest to get and taken by combat against people that are NOT mobs.

As if the difference between having Ascended and Exotic armor will make the difference in a WvW battle. To say you’re obligated to get Ascended gear to be effective in WvW is like telling me to not bother doing WvW with my alts because I’ll be dead weight until i hit 80 – which simply isn’t true.
Well I hope you do this in a way that lets us earn the same gear the dungeon runners will be getting, that will resolve a lot of issues over it.
Also, please don’t screw over your solo and small guild players in any way shape or form on this, otherwise you’ll be just like every other MMO I’ve ever played PvP in.
Well I hope you do this in a way that lets us earn the same gear the dungeon runners will be getting, that will resolve a lot of issues over it.
…Besides the weapons are armor you can already get for Badges of Honor?

…yes because everyone should be happy with the same exact set of armor/weapon, regardless of class and build…

You don’t have to do it to contribute no, but it definitely makes a difference. As much as 26% by the numbers some have crunched. Over 50 stat points once a whole set of this stuff is in, and you definitely could tell the difference of having +50 for one Orb when they were in.
But talking about coming in under 80 is entirely different, because when you do that, you are still on the path to max gear by doing the part of the game you like. I also went into WvW early, mid 20s, and while I was not as effective as a true 80, at least I knew that by continuing to play WvW I would eventually get to 80, as well as enough karma/badges to get to max gear like anyone else there. In this new dynamic, from what we know so far, the only place this Ascended gear exists is in dungeons, yet it will give an advantage in PvP. That is not acceptable, and makes no sense. Even by their own manifesto, it is opposite to the design intent they stated, where all modes are equal progression and power wise. Not sure why someone wouldn’t care that their preferred part of the game was getting the short end of the straw.
And don’t think this new content will be the end of tiered progression. The gap will only grow and grow, now they have chosen vertical over horizontal. So keeping a parallel track via WvW is very important.

I have to agree with my other comrades here on the forums. DAoC had a super system and obviously you guys at ANet feel the same way. We need to be able to advance our toons by PvPing in WvW. The idea of “everyone” is equal is great on paper but we need a reason to log in. Mythic’s realm rank system still works to this day and keeps people engaged.

Isn’t the Invader set the best combination of stats for PvP and WvW?
Then again, I see what you’re getting at. Someone somewhere must really want a +Healing Power / + %Crit Damage / + Condition Damage set.

I thought of that.. then had a better idea. Rank system allowing purchase of LOOKS based gear via badges but only at or above that rank.
Seriously, stick with the spirit of this game. Give us looks based progression not a stat / power treadmill.

i feel like Anet doesn’t know who they want to cater to. I was under the impression this was a team based PvP game but everything points to them trying to hoist a lame kitten gear grind and apease the “bored” pvers that have nothing to do because they don’t have a carrot on a stick.

I’ve never felt as though as an 80 in full greens I was ever not competitive in WvW, but really I suppose that’s just my personal experience. It’s definitely a valid concern to say that there should be some way to get the gear in WvW but I honestly can’t forsee this particular update posing any sort of real concern for people playing WvW. Whether they had plans to continue this exact type of gear progression in coming patches I think was pretty safe to say at a time, but based on the extremely negative feedback I would think that Anet will be closely watching how Ascended gear turns out in live and reconsider how they implement their particular brand of gear progression.

In all honesty Habib, you guys may want to consider giving some snippets of this information ahead of time, or at least craft a response to those passionate about WvW regarding the upcoming event content and new dungeon gear. I’m personally pretty neutral on the whole thing, but there are a lot of WvWers that are really upset about having to engage in PvE in order to be sure their gear is on equal footing to their opponents.

There is no best combination of stats in the game for anything. Play style, class, build, preference, all require variety regardless if you are PvEing or PvPing.
I would guess that the invader set is the least worn exotic set in PvP. Its far easier to get PvE gear and you get the stats you actually prefer.
Er.. before we focus on further rewards can we get the current ones working first? A lot of people, including myself, are not receiving them at all and even worse, most are completely unaware of this!

Were I to design a Realm Ability like system for WvW, this is what I would do. Maybe some of these will give anet some ideas, who knows.
WvW Ability List
- 1 hour reuse timer on each ability
- 3 levels for each ability
- Ability points earned a max of 1 per week
- Requires completion of WvW weekly (points given for kills, captures, and defenses)
- World based, so you need to start over from scratch if you move to another server
Name – Effectiveness per level – Description
Scrounger – 5/10/15 – Player summons x supply.
Combat Repairer – 50/75/100 – Player takes x% less damage when repairing. (30 seconds)
Combat Resser – 45/70/95 – Player takes x% less damage when ressing. (30 seconds)
Yak Motivator – 10/20/30 – Player gives targeted supply yak an x% speed bonus that stacks with other bonuses. (120 seconds)
Yak Protector – 45/70/95 – Player gives targeted supply yak a buff providing x% damage reduction. (30 seconds)
Siege Protector – 25/45/65 – Player gives targeted siege item a buff providing x% damage reduction. (30 seconds)
Guard Leader – 25/45/65 – Player gives targeted veteran guard a buff providing x% damage reduction. (30 seconds)
Battlefield Healer – 50/100/150 – Player gains x% healing bonus when ressing downed or killed enemies. (30 seconds)
Pocket Sieger – 15/30/45 – Player MacGyver’s together a makeshift version of the selected siege item that works at x% effectiveness compared to a normal one.
Secret Passager – n/a – Player can port into a contested waypoint due to knowledge of secret tunnels.
Dodgey Sieger – 25/45/65 – Player takes x% less damage when operating siege equipment. (60 seconds)
Can anyone think of anymore?

Just copy DAOC’s system, you aren’t gonna do better.
1. It was my understanding this Ascended gear will have more total stats than the Badge gear, therefore rendering the Badge gear obsolete. Did I misunderstand?
2. Yes, more choices for Badge gear stats would an excellent addition to the game.
3. The new dev posts stated that the new gear would be available in WvW…in time. So roughly how long do I have to be at a stat disadvantage just because I don’t want to grind dungeons over and over?
4. Badge gear is already not comparable to dungeon gear because it takes much longer to grind badges than to grind tokens.
When we whine about nightcapping.. Didnt they make a post saying how one person’s time is not ant more valuable than the other person.
Apparently 100 hours in pve seems to give a lot more than when compared to 100 hours of wvw.
I have 430 hours played and only about 30% of which is in pve, yet i have only dungeon gear that i can alk about.

This post makes me extremely happy.
-Keep World Completion PoI’s in Home WvW, and Eternal Battlegrounds, remove requirements for 100% from others. Make 4-5 different WvW battlegrounds and assign a different one to each server for their home. Make these battlegrounds larger as well. Travel doesn’t mean as much currently.
-Increase the defenses at keeps, make them harder to take.
-Allow players to gain WvW rank for very very slight increases. Like .25/.5/1% movement increase. Small increases but still something to go for in WvW as you have done for Ascended gear.
Note: I Like the fact that i can level up more over time. I don’t like it when those increase cause me / others to become obsolete. Thus very small increase still allow me to feel like i am progressing my character but not so much as to make me kill someone simply on time played. These are simply my ideas/beliefs.

Progression is not better stats, that’s not what we want. We would be happy though if you come up with new title/ ranks in wvw and new cosmetic items.
Here is a thought, remove Repair costs on stomp for WvW, add in an Attackers event system like you guys have for Defense. Spent about an hour tonight fighting 12 – 1 odds trying to take a keep. I realized they are being rewarded DEFENSE CREDIT and making Money / Exp / Karma, while my team of only 5 people, who were fighting this zerg and trying to take the keep was being awarded NOTHING. That seems a bit harsh, where is my ATTACKERS CREDIT?

Anet needs to tie Commander status to badges vs gold. 10000 badges or something for commander status… a new, different icon… change current to something guild only or other.
Even someone with 1000 deaths will have a better handle on Wv3 than someone with deep pockets (however good that is for Anet.. it sucks for community in general).

Submit a bug… should have gotten failed attempt credit. If you didn’t, you either did not really contribute anything and/or were too far away to matter. (Defending siege at max range does not count as attacking)
@uder “Progression is not better stats, that’s not what we want. We would be happy though if you come up with new title/ ranks in wvw and new cosmetic items.”
+1 internets cookie to you.
that’s a very important distinction to make here as I think very few people want statistical better gear when they say progression. There are many avenues to take, just no artificial grinds pls as the only end up segregating a community
What about WvW Item Updates?
@ next patch all WvW Guys have to farm Pve???
my next Question is why are the Prices for WvW Items so overpriced?
I play alot WvW and i have only 500 Badges of Honor…. one Item costs about 300-400 Badges for 2 Months of Playing WvW?
“We have awesome new for rvr inc, but we can’t say more atm.. " ahaha how many time i have read this sentence in Warhammer or other… always failure when the announce inc :/
Instead of talking about the DAoC system, can you explain it at least? …
I think it is important to remember that the actual power boost from those ascended bits of equipment are roughly a 1% or less bonus overall…
Hell the differences between rare and exotic are TINY and most of the stats you get in this game come from your base stats, base armour stats at masterwork and traits.
Really the outrage over a “gear grind” is just silly… if they keep introducing more and more powerful gear sure but anyone who has actually read the article where she announces it should also notice that infusions seem to only effect dungeons themselves and that they were looking for a side grade system so dungeon runners can have some progress and more longevity out of the dungeon itself and a way for arenanet to give better rewards to people who keep playing dungeons for longer through harder tiers and the like.
This is a good idea, not relevant to world vs world but honestly the time when an exotic vs rare decided a fight is only ever if you are both meeting in exactly equal conditions with the same character, no backup and no cooldowns…
Wvw is already boring…We really need something like daocs realm points or wars renown points to progress a character in wvw…there’s no incentive to play on when you have everything..some say the fighting is enough…the pvp isn’t that great tbh..it needs a lot of improvements….like removing the rtarded downed state…gw true to get all fancy and remove the holy trinity…I say it was the biggest mistake…wvw favors skill less zergs.
I dissagree Camagee, a small squad of organised players (and by small squad I mean 20 or so players) can absolutely decimate enemy lines with communication.
I agree that it needs more mechanics, the maps need to be a bit bigger with more incentive to capture linking keeps and take control over roads, I think having some form of baricade or trap system would be useful but would have to be carefully implemented.
I think the biggest issue is with skillspammers or glass cannons who cannot play the game at all and think they are all that in world vs world.
Structured pvp is getting better over time and at a much faster rate than world vs world however.
Instead of talking about the DAoC system, can you explain it at least? …
For every kill you did in RvR (like WvW) you earned Realm Points. Depending on how much damage you did you more point you got, you highter realm rank the enemys was abit more point you got also i think.
First you needed to earn enough realm points to rank, every level had i think 10 mini lvls in them. So from RR 1 till the max lvl the first years was RR11. You actually need to go RR1 Level 1, then RR1 level 2 up to RR1 lvl 10 that turned your realm rank and titel to RR2. (And to reach RR11 only a few did the first 2-3 years).
The points you earned every minilevel could you spend in some unique and some basic skills/attributes for your character. You had alot of passives like give your character a boost with +1 str, or dex, pwr whatever you want. Then you had other passives, some cost more some less points. You could also spend point on unique skills.
But i will tell you the points you get you need to think wisely how you will spend them, depening on your group setup or if you going to solo etc. For a perfect group setup with a good RR like rr10 they would be abit OP meeting other lower RR grps.
The thing is, i didnt care if i got killed sometimes by a full guild group with RR10, they have earned the way, they should have the skill, for me its ok that their characters are abit better. The only thing that comes from that is more challange for your lower RR group that alot of times could own RR10+ grps also.
Also, depending on my characters that are 5 rr8+, alot of them back in the days probably says it was no problem to start a new character and reach high RR at any time. The higher RR gives you a boost but its not making things impossible for others either.
Motivation! We need a flying boat (as arah dungeon story mode) just to pew pew the Keep undersiege from above lol
Back to the topic, i d like to see more incentive focused on Guild committed to claim and keep a fort safe, the longer that fort/keep is kept, the better should be the reward, influence or even shiny gold ^^..
Thanks Habibloew.
Sounds like you guys are on the right track:) Really looking forward to seeing your ideas take physical shape.
You mean pixely shape? It’s still a videogame, dude.
All the ideas (to make GW2 like DAoC…) are great but you have to consider right now WvW is so popular (queues…) that it doesnt need more carrot to make players participate.
Bigger maps could be could but you also have to consider bigger would mean more plaers, more players would mean more trouble to fix lag/clipping (it its even possible).
I think the solution would be more maps.
Need also some new map, and not copy/pasted map with different location name. Lazy dev ?
And why not add some artefacts system like in Aion ? Giving bonuses.. transforming ennemis for few sec into pigs ? :o
Instead of talking about the DAoC system, can you explain it at least? …
Yeah you hide in a zerg for months and months hoping no one kills you. Eventually you get enough rank to buy a class defining skill so you can actually enjoy the game. Did I miss anything?

So someone can just run around all map, deal some damage to npc guards here and where, and then after end of all attack events get multiple rewards? Not best idea, imho.
