WvW Roaming Class
Well for 1vX as you probably know, your best bet would be Mesmer or Thief but other than that, in my opinion, I would go bunker ele.
Diamond Story – Elementalist
[TSym] Tac Sym
depends on what you wanna do.
An Ele can stall multiple opponents for pretty long and get loads of kills roaming.
A Thief can get loads of kills against idiots but that’s about it.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
mesmer, d/d ele, engineer if you want to roam but not be a thief
again it depends.
If you really want to play to win and not for drops/killing players, a roaming thief can be surprisingly effective…
Just snipe Dolyaks and invis out. Repeat infinitely. One of the best ways to play a permastealth thief :>
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Greatsword Warrior.
I want to be able to roam. check.
I want to be tough enough to stand up to whatever and put out DPS enough to kill whatever. check
Swiftness close to perma would be a necessity. check
Being able to gtfo of dodge would be a requirement or my repair bill would suck. check
Being able to melt a Thief’s face would be a bonus. check
Even bigger bonus would be something unique and unexpected. sorry there..
I main an engineer and I roam a lot in WvW.
Benefits of an engineer:
- Wide variety of kits and general weapons at your disposal, you can create something really unique with the engineer, but it’ll take time to really get a firm grasp on your abilities.
- People don’t think much of engineers overall, so you’ll be pretty much always underestimated.
- No problems when clearing supply camps solo and at a fairly fast pace.
It’s not easy, but it can be done with enough practice.
- You can pretty much switch roles on the fly if you aim for a balanced build.
- Highly capable of winning 2 vs 1 scenarios, even 3 vs 1 are doable if your opponents aren’t that great or upscaled (green arrow thingy)
- Perma-swiftness. There are different ways to attain perma swiftness on an engineer by the way.
- Depending on what abilities you bring to the table, you’ll be able to kill off/neutralize thieves before they even realize it. A few of our abilities have confusion and we have great block skills.
whatever class with stealth or permanent speed will do.
i roam with my necro, but i need the warhorn for locust swarm, spectral walk and some traits to increase duration and/or reduce cooldown to get non stop overlapping speed.
Camping a keep near you since 2001 !

yea, this 30/30/30/30/30 build is really awesome!!
i play d/d ele and well you can escape almost everything , ride the lighting and the teleport skil and mistform make it almost imposible to cath you, it´s as good as the thief with bow to run from zergs..
you have 50% of the time swiftness if you just make an atunement change and skil 5 in wind, but thats enough , with ride the lighting you are very mobile…and if you really want perma swiftnes , just change to staf and buf yourself more
in 1v1 it´s very good , thiefs burst you to 30-50% if they are glass canon but you can heal up an kitten them up then, i play for 3-4 weeks the ele with d/d and never lost one 1vs1
in 1vs2 or 1vs3 it´s still posible to win , depends how good you are and your enemy, oh and btw , you can just kill one of them , then stomp him while your are in mistform and then just run with ride the lighting.. ;D
well i´m very happy with my ele , got many nice fights in 1vs1 or 1vs2 BUT it requires to know very well the playstlye of ele and atument switch, if your are not used to it , you are gona fail hard like the people who whine that the ele ist underpowered…and of course of the build ! if you play glascanon and want to hit 9k crits …well gl with that , glasscanaons are my favorite enemy
depends on what you wanna do.

Basically this, however a skilled thief can kill good players as well.

Hi
I play a roaming mesmer in smal group behind enemy lines or solo roaming, taking camps etc. Its pure love, I have a guide for my spec with 17k wievs so far on the mesmer forums and the mesmer community itself is so lovely only that is a reason roll the class.
Here is a link to my guide who also incude vids.

I like to siege, but I also like to just get on, run around, take camps, kill yaks, run from groups/zergs (while chuckling at them chasing me), and 1vX. I currently play a Mesmer and it works well enough, although I’ve made myself entirely too squishy and can’t afford to change that right now. Well, I could, but badges drop at such a low rate… but I digress.
Anyways, I’m getting a little bored. I’m also very tired of Thiefs. Fights with them either end with them just running away as they please, stealthing whenever they want (Revealed debuff? HAH! Lies.), killing me in the time it takes me to blink, or we have a 5 to 10 minute fight that can go either way.
So, I’m looking to try out some other classes. I want to be able to roam. I want to be tough enough to stand up to whatever and put out DPS enough to kill whatever. Swiftness close to perma would be a necessity. Being able to gtfo of dodge would be a requirement or my repair bill would suck. Being able to melt a Thief’s face would be a bonus. Even bigger bonus would be something unique and unexpected. I’m looking at Necro, Engineer and maybe D/D Ele right now. The latter being a little daunting with the learning curve and not exactly unique at the moment.
Anyways, am I deluded? Am I stuck with either playing a Thief myself (Which ain’t happenin. Too many of them as it is and I hatess them. Other than my occasional duo partner <3.) or just sticking with my Mesmer?
Thanks in advance.
Hammer – Sword Shield Warrior
(Matale has some videos up on YouTube showcasing a build a lot like this if you want to see it’s playstyle used to it’s utmost effect).
It gets points for:
-Stunlock potential (how hard do you need to burst if your enemy can’t run/do anything?)
-Awesome escape (45s Swift on a 48 sec cooldown +5 sec swift on Heal use = perma swiftness w/o trait allotment/RNG reliance) + Sword 600 Leap is an awesome gap closer-opener depending on how you want it.
-Invuln windows for daaaaaaaaaaaaaays.
AoE CC is a lifesaver in and of itself when fighting multiple opponents or dealing with adds.

Oh, these last 2 posts give me something to do at work today. Thanks guys!
By the way, Osicat, I’m running Mesmer myself but was looking for something new, although I’m definitely going to check out what you got. Personally, I run GS main, S/F or /P offhand depending on my mood and a 20/20/0/0/30 build.
as much as i love the hammer (playing it myself) there is one thing the hammer surely isnt and thats viable for roaming. you play the hammer in groups for control / interrupt, its damage simply doesnt allow to kill anyone with half a brain.
btw my GS build is 20/20/30/0/0 for the guy that cared. with runes of the pack and axe/warhorn as a 2nd set i can stack swiftness indefinately. running mostly knights stuff with a few berserker pieces mixed in = 3200 armor, 3400 attack, 40% base crit. GG.
Nothing comes close to D/D ele in roaming except for maybe thief and certain builds of guardian. Guardian however, suffers from a severe lack of mobility, and if you get caught out of position you’re done.
Thief is more about picking people off when they’re not ready or bursting someone down before they can properly react.
D/D ele is about outlasting your opponent and most people don’t have a clue how to fight them which often plays in your favor.
Mesmer can be good too, but it’s soooooooo slow getting around. Same problem as guardian. If you get caught and you’re not ready or severely outnumber you will get ran over.

Perma swiftness engineer? Please explain.
Gav, look at the Speedy Kits trait in the tool line. Use it with med kit, which doesn’t have a cool down, and number 5 on the med kit, and you’re tooling along, so to speak. Just have to keep popping hte kit every now and then. Can also do the same, I believe with a full set of Superior Rune of the Centaur by using the med kit every 10 seconds.
Probably a couple of other ways involving Rune of Air and some others in combination with Engineer traits and abilities as well.
I’m going to second an engineer, but you have to build for it. With enough toughness and vit gear and the proper traits you can have protection up 60% of the time, two separate cooldowns of 3 second invulnerability (one automatic when your life hits 25%), either an AoE cripple or a knockback+knockdown on a short timer, and what amounts to permanent swiftness with speedy kit trait. If you go 30 points in alchemy trait line you can even become immune to conditions when under 25% health. There is even an option to have 3 seconds of complete block with the tool kit, but the skill bar is only so big…
Otherwise I find well-played bunker elementalists to be the hardest thing to kill in the game, second only to thieves for frustrating getaways (because a roaming thief will get away if he wants to get away). Additionally even with perma-swiftness some classes will still be able to catch you if all you do is run (can’t outrun most thieves), but you can always drop a supply crate on their heads while fleeing to get them off you.

Anyone roam around with Yojack’s Warrior build?
For reference: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Yojack-s-Min-Max-home-of-the-Yojack-Build-2012-for-GW2/first
Oh, and engineer keeps getting brought up. I have to admit that the only kit I truly enjoy is the flamethrower. I keep wanting to make that work in an all around build. Something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcMQJAqel0pyaX3SfF17IxIFd+zgeU/6eXRKqcjB
But I’m not sure how effective it would be for this.
