Anet, Whatever you do for season 2 (if any). Please never include these achievements again:

  • Supplies Severed 35: Kill 225 enemy supply caravan
    This is very difficult for heavies since they are not as fast as players in lighter armor and the yaks die too quick that it is difficult to even get a hit.
  • Mists Merc Camp Vanquisher: Capture 50 mercenary camps.
    Only available in EBG and there is already reports of this being buggy and not awarding the players if the camp is not in a natural state.
  • Demolition Expert: Destroy 30 enemy wall or gate.
    Yeah PvE door doesn’t work or buggy (even with my zerker warrior build) and it is difficult to get on rams without getting kicked off by other player.

Increasing the other achievements should be fine as long as you keep it fair and not include these….

  • Not going to mention the JPs since some players enjoy it….but seriously there shouldn’t be any JPs in WvW in the first place but I am in peace with the idea now…

I think the achievement objectives are fine, but the required numbers on those three in particular could be lowered, while compensating by increasing others, such as the players killed achievement (which is currently doable in one match).

Not that I care much about the achievements but I’d still be as happy as Larry (no joke!) to see the PvE content removed from WvW. This means eliminating jumping puzzle achievements, gatherable resources and achievements that involve killing non-player targets – including guards, mercs and dolyaks. If you also remove karma, experience and kill bags, it’ll finally have some resemblance of AvA/GvG/PvP for the sake of that particular honour only.

Caravan is fine, it takes 2-3 days of a couple hours solo-roaming, I did it with my guard

Demo expert isn’t hard, use fiery greatsword when you PvD (firey rush w/o targetting = massive dmg + whirlwind against door)

The Merc camp one is the big issue one, since its limited to EB and harder for solo-roamers, but they give you enough in other areas for the meta to not require this one

I agree with the OP.

The mercenary camps one is a joke, it should be 10 maxium, 50 is insane…

The caravans one should be 100 maxium.

The damage to gates should be lower. I have been through 100’s of gates already and only got credit for 11.

More defensive achievements need to be put in.

Personally, I am fine with the JP ones, nice and easy…

Huh? This isn’t Skyrim. Armor type does not affect movement speed. Having to get 225 is completely reasonable and fair. You have seven weeks to do this and will get t through normal play of WvW. I know there’s been the “but I want it now!” attitude going on around lately but these achievements are not meant for you to complete in a day. I’m over 50% of the way to completing both of these from playing only a few hours of WvW every night and not from just farming them specifically.

Merc camps are relatively easy to flip and I’ve easily done this a dozen times over the course of several hours before. Like I mentioned above. You have seven weeks to do this. I do not know what you mean by buggy if not in natural state. In any case, if there is a bug, then they should fix it; not remove the requirement entirely.

I agree that this one is a pain. While some people have managed to get credit by attacking the gate, they’re meant to use siege. Join a small group that roams and caps camps/towers. You can also take a tower yourself or use a trebuchet from a tower/keep to knock down walls. It may seem daunting at first glance but it’s completely doable in 7 weeks.

I also want to stress to PvE players that these are WvW achievements for doing, you guessed it, WvW. This meta also lasts for seven weeks. All of these achievements are doable within that time by just playing normally. If you’re trying to grind these out to complete it immediately then expect it to not be as fun.

I think ideally the achievements should happen naturally for any regular WvW player. While I do think I’ll complete enough of these for the key eventually and before the season is over many feel like grinding due to the numbers required for completion.

The jp ones feel far removed from WvW, pretty much leaving the action and activity in a sense to do them, they really aren’t a part of WvW except they are located there and you might end up in pvp while doing a jp.

The addition of defense oriented achievements would, to me, be a welcome addition to the current list. Defend towers and keeps, kill enemies with siege, dolyak escorts, neutralize enemy allied mercenaries. Starting upgrades has been mentioned elsewhere but I’m not sure how that would play out with achievement hunters, it would likely result in a lot of upgrades being started that were ill timed and not ideal for the situation at hand. The defense restorer has its own issues with misused supply already so really don’t need more of that.

Dolyak hp has always felt pretty low to me, they really do go down too fast. A possible solution to this might be to add an additional camp upgrade option which would allow the dolyak to be upgraded to a veteran yak.

I agree enemy kills could be increased, at the current number it was incredibly easy to complete.

Successful opportunism is often indistinguishable from a masterful plan.

For Demolition Expert the achievement is find as is. Maybe reduce the amount of damage to get credit but even now I don’t see it as a issue. As I am a Necro that very rarely touches siege since I’ll probably better used doing something else, I’m currently 28/30 with 4 weeks to go…

I find it very strange that you need to kill more guards than players. Sure guards are (usually) easier to kill but there’s a lot less of them about. It should at least be equal.

jumping puzzles should not be in achieve as they don’t really contribute anything to wvw.

for people who find difficulty on demolition expert, drop a few rams/catas , use them a few times then let someone else use it an you get credit…

I’m not complaining, but by my idea of “normal” play there’s no way I’d have time to finish the meta unless I play WvW almost exclusively. I started about a week late after a hiatus, but even if I were twice as far ahead as I am now there’s no way I’d finish the whole thing unless I stopped doing most PvE. Plus I’d probably have to stop playing properly and dedicate some time to specifically hunting down supply caravans even if that’s not the best ‘bang for the buck’ I could provide, which seems like kind of a bad idea.

Regardless, something is definitely wrong with the demolition achievement. I’ve been part of multiple gate knockdowns from 100% to 0% and I still have 0 points in it. I’ve been dropping wells on the gates, hitting them with life transfer, etc. and nothing has counted yet. I find it hard to believe that 10,000+ damage to a gate isn’t sufficient to count as participating.

Difficult for heavies? Warriors are the fastest long distance class in the game, and guards can do a roaming set up and go fairly fast too.

I think the issue is that you’re not really supposed to finished those objectives if you’re only always sticking to the tag. I had to try and roam a bit for a few of those yaks, and I’m not a very good one (read: terrible), but eh…four or five yaks before I got ganked was always a good deal.

Merc camps is tricky. The easiest way for me to get enough was to tag up and lead a zerg into them every now and then, heh.

Demo expert is tough for non-wvw regulars unless they intentionally move to hurt their server, or their server makes way for their nontraited ramming. =S Of course, you could always try playing the week you are red and just repeatedly trebbing SMC from Overlook.

Or inversely, trebbing Overlook and a bunch of other places from SMC.
