So I stopped playing for about a year and now I’m back (obviously).

I’m still on Ehmry Bay, but it seems to be largely a ghost-town when I go into WvW. Even on our TeamSpeak I only ever see enough people for a small amount of action in a single zone … and not enough to keep from being rolled by any server with actual presence.

I’ve discussed this with some friends I play with that are on Shiverpeak and they mentioned some things:
(1) The situation for the top tier servers is working well … good, even fights
(2) The situation for the non-top tier servers is not working well … not often good, even fights … usually one massive blob dominating the others who can’t leverage as large of a blob.

I’m curious about your thoughts here?

Also, if it matters, I’m not usually a big fan of running in a zerg. I prefer to run in smaller groups that support the zerg. Doesn’t hurt that I’m usually on a Mesmer/Ranger whose mechanics don’t often do as well Zergs (though Mesmer has his tricks)

That hard to believe about Ebay considering its in t5. Going by your signature, you might be very interested in joining my friend Xivor’s guild on NSP they do raids and zerg support, and NSP is known for having a very good community, here is FIRE’s forum link:

I find your statement about EBay rather confusing to say the least.

But maybe that’s because since i’ve been roaming during the current matchup, all i seem to run into is WoE /Cat blobs.

Could be unlucky, but to say there’s no action…eh.

Maybe the pasture is greener on the other side, up to you though.

Actually ran into a good number of EBAY … literally the [EBAY] guild too (good people) … and had some good fights. Still had to avoid large zergs though … never saw anything on our side that could stand up to a zerg. It was also the only grouping of people I saw in the WvW Teamspeak channels for EBAY so unless there are some other EBAY guilds that were out there and using their own TS, that was it for a large portion of our presence.

What is confusing about what I said about EBay before ? I’ll try to be clearer :-(

My friends on Shiverpeak have been vouching for the community on that server. Those others I’ve run into there do seem like good people from the bit I’ve interacted with them in PvE content.

I’m just still curious about the various Tiers the servers are in. Specifically how “even” they are. “Even” matches are obviously best as you have actual competition. Then it’s nice to have actual presence so it’s more PvP than PvE when in WvW.

My friends on Shiverpeak admitted that the past couple weeks weren’t that fun for them given how there was a much larger blob dominating WvW and Shiverpeak couldn’t match it in size … though apparently this week has been a much more fun (see: “even”) match.

Yeah this sounds a little like my story.

When I first returned to gaming I was on DH while they were getting pummeled by NSP a year ago. Before DH rose in the ranks.

At that time, WvW was a ghost town. No one wanted to play because NSP was just steam rolling everything. It wasnt much of a challenge, it was impossible.

I thought for sure WvW was broken.

After NSP went on their way on up t3-t4, then all of a sudden WvW became active for me.

Now this is going to be horrible to fix because human nature is driving it. Top tiers are plagued with queues, on the other side of the coin, lower tiers have no people.

People are trading queue times for action believe it or not.

Many people have mentioned ways of fortifying lower tiers with false stats but how fair is that to a server who has put together a leadership team that is dedicated to growing that community and server to win? That this server should be minimized some how in what they achieved to make it more available for a server who has not done well with this.

Now, people do tend to like to be on the winning team and thus a bandwagon mentality occurs.

I would think queue priority would be an interesting thing. In other words, the longer you have been on a server the more priority you have in that server’s WvW queues.

The older more dedicated players for that server pass right by ones who just showed up.

This would inspire more server dedication vs the bandwagon mentality that is driving WvW.

It would also help with the people who create an account on another server just to drive golems off a cliff and spy unfairly on the server.

It would also push some down to lower tier servers, as now their queue times just extended greatly, because now not only do they have to deal with queue, they are somewhere in the priority of that queue.

When others, and will include myself as well, stated it is confusing is because actually Ebay is in a good tier which is very close in terms of balance. Also, unless the server had an implosion since the last time we got matched up, it has a good amount of players as well as roamers and a couple of havoc guilds. Henge of Denravi have a good amount of roamers, as does Crystal Desert but bit less in numbers. Isle of Janthir will drop a tier soon and they are a very fun server to fight against, good roamers and guilds.

The fact Ehmry Bay is on par with Crystal Desert and Henge of Denravi doesn’t have a huge gap on the lead, shows a bit of balance, in terms of score, and that Ebay do have players out there fighting.

Now for “even” fights “all the time” that will be tier 1 and 2, which as said before, have queues. If you decide for a tier 2 server, I’d suggest SoS, however, don’t go to FA. The queue’s are terrible there.

Tier 3 is unbalanced right now, maybe in a few months will stabilize and seems like 2 servers will rotate between tiers 3 and 4: SBI and DH and probably a 3rd: NSP if they get a bit more of rating.

Op never stated time zone I don’t think. That can make a huge difference as you go down tiers…. If not playing NA prime, may have to move up….

Yes, timezone is not stated. WvW is a 24 hour thing, what is like is very subjective to timezone. Even in tier 1, it is not completely balanced, there will be superior timezone for each server.

Henge right now is smoking EB and CD in points. It’s more of EB and CD fighting for 2nd. I’m thinking it might be more balanced if it becomes EB, CD, and IoJ.

I’m on U.S central time. I play evenings after work once the kids are in bed.
