all this talk about WvW getting neglected… well I guess Edge of the Mists is just a dream and I’m gonna wake up soon. I dreamt of that huge new map with tons of new mechanics, objectives, structures, new environments, etc. etc.

I’m not saying that EotM doesn’t need a few fixes so that the PvErs find somewhere else to drive their karma/champion trains, but first and foremost this is quite a huge addition to WvW content. Same as the Borderland-Ruins, which could work out just fine with a few fundamental fixes. At the moment the buff isn’t enough incentive for people to go there.

What have you lost due to this delay?
It is not like you have a monthly subscription to pay for the game or the game being unplayable.

I think what people are missing here is this isn’t the first time this has happened. My guess is the way they fixed the season 1 chest was someone had to go through every account that completed the meta and see who did or did not receive their chest and manually send it for those who didn’t. That took quite a bit of time. Now we are back at the same scenario. Please dont bother with the next season until this is resolved.

All game designers understand the mechanics of a reward system, when we do something good in a game and receive a reward our brain will give us a endorphin rush to say good job. On a extended tourney such as this the anticipation created makes for a very unhappy crew when the reward doesn’t show up.
Lets try to remember how long it took to get the three headed worm chest… wait perhaps the asurans had to hand those out individually as well!

I just want my reward because I’m completely impatient. It’s amusing that this has turned into an “Moral stance on the unacceptability of waiting for something your due”. I can bet that ANET is just as unhappy that this happened as most of us are. It has nothing to do with being a champion of ANET. It has to do with compassion, understanding the complexities of the situation and patience.

You make fun of the guy, but that is exactly the kind of behaviour an MMO encourages, even more so one that is funded by “micro” transactions instead of a monthly fee.

Everything about this game is designed to be simultaneously time consuming and incredibly addictive, this includes:

  • offering an “easy” way out through converting gems to gold instead of farming
  • a disconnect between real money and items purchased with it (gems)
  • achievements and ranks that are visible to other players to create a sense of competition
  • a direct correlation between the impressiveness of an item and the amount of time required to obtain it
  • an economy tied directly to the real currency

When your game continuously incentivises players to reach for the next big thing; never really providing them with an “end” to content, when there is always someone better than you and the game very explicitly tells you that, then the kind of behaviour in this thread is precisely the result you should expect to see when the Next Big Thing is pulled out from beneath player’s feet.

People say that gamers are “entitled” or even “caustic” or “toxic”, and games companies frequently wonder why their forums are full of hatred and vitriol, and hire community managers to curb rage threads and deleted unwanted or inflammatory posts.

I argue that although forums will always attract a vocal minority, the anger displayed in this thread is more so a reaction of players feeling cheated by a system that is by design, deeply unkind.

So make fun of the guy all you like, but this sort of behaviour should come as no surprise to anyone.

What I don’t understand is why you’re completely neglecting the rewards you have been getting for these achievements. There is the achievement rewards that can lead you to getting gems and exclusive skins. There is the rewards we got from completing achievements like a Gulp of Liquid World Experience and Obsidian Shards. Finally, there is the reward you got for (let’s be real here) barely paying attention while running around in a zerg for a few hours and ranking up your world rank.

We’ve all been rewarded for our activities in World vs. World. We’ve all been rewarded achievement points and achievement rewards. Now there is an issue that – while taking a little while longer than we first anticipated – is still going to be resolved. This will give us ANOTHER reward on top of the huge piles of reward we’ve gotten so far.

I want my Mistforged Weapon like anyone else, but I don’t hear anyone trying to take up arms for those of us who ranked so low in this tournament that they won’t be able to get their weapon until the next tournament. There are people there who have to exercise a more extreme amount of patience than you do for your tickets and they knew they had to wait well before anyone else did.

I’m sure your argument will be “That’s why we should just give them 500 tickets!” to which I say completely belittles the tournament and the point of tickets at all. This tournament was established to praise the winners. That is what WvW is. It is a competition which has winners and losers in it. I’d be upset if everyone got 500 tickets and I’m a person who got 450.

Exercise patience. It isn’t as if you are being deprived any aspect of the game except for a singular skin or some crafting materials. Sure, it sucks to wait but they will come. I’m certain the developers are keenly aware of how bad this situation looks and they are on it as much as they can be.

One of the larger questions is that for younger people the expense can be far greater. The time spent dedicated to games designed to obtain dedication often comes at the expense of education, and that expense represents far great personal cost later in life. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately), I don’t have to worry about that anymore :-|

Lets be honest here, you’re describing wow more than anything else. There are no effective leader-boards for individuals or guilds. The only real competition is for servers, which a simple realm transfer can grant you access. Lord knows there were lots of those before this season. There’s also no gear tiers like wow, no real treadmill that requires hours of grinding every day and no way to inspect other players. You can also post chat codes so pinging gear is useless too. Even the meta for season 2 was very easy to complete. And about those WvW titles.. do you even see them in zergs? No, not really. Personally I never cared what title or gear someone was wearing. Its red, its dead.

And lets also be honest about the rewards. We’re talking about a delay to ticket rewards, which is a small subset of the rewards we got for season 2. Don’t gloss over the karma, gold, random materials and ascended materials we got while playing the season. So our weapon skin is late.. for everyone. I don’t see how this is pulling the rug from under you.

No I’m sorry, but the amount of angst in this thread isn’t warranted. People are behaving like anet told them “no rewards for you”.. when in fact they’ve clearly stated they are actively working on fixing the issue.

For me I’m in a favourable position that my passion is my job, so I’m basically mandated to do something (usually!) aligned with what I’d consider self improvement for at least 8 hours a day 5 days a week. On the downside, a lot of my free time is definitely consumed by playing video games and I often find myself addicted to obtaining frivolous things, like WvW weapon skins. Initially when the delay hit I was quite annoyed, which made we wonder why exactly I should be aggravated by something that isn’t even real.

The answer is that it is real. We do care about our characters, the way they look and how we compare to our peers/rivals and this competition is something that MMO games can live or die on. No one wants to play a multiplayer game where you can’t be somehow heralded better than someone else. It’s just human nature. Heck, even single player game design has recognized this through the advent of achievements.

I argue that the competition in Guild Wars 2 is far, far more deeply set than in any other MMO. Everything that you have said is true about this game lacking certain features for players to one up each other with. There are no real leader boards for players or guilds, WvW match ups are far from a deciding factor of player or even server skill, and players cannot even see each other’s stats or builds.

That leaves but one point of competition:

Vanity.

I challenge you to find a more deeply rooted issue, a more important or overriding factor in the average human being’s sense of self worth, than how they look.

I don’t understand today’s “gamers”. This is a game, a diversion; its not a career. Playing isn’t your job, nor does it define you in any way. They are designing this game, its their project, their vision, not ours. How entitled the gaming community got is unbelievable.

The GW2 developers working on this WvW fix just happen to have landed right in the middle of an extremely nasty stewing pot of players whose desire for self validation has been very carefully nurtured into something truly caustic. I don’t envy them one bit!

HC players are the ones that bring in $$ long-term..so it’s only logical that u cater to them and not 1 month players ^.^. Also HC players who put in a lot of h in the game know the game better then any casual player..so they know what sides are lacking and which not and what needs to change in most cases.

ANet is a business…and a business will always do whatever it has to bring in $$. That means listening to the players that actually play the game and invest in it. Their vision doesn’t go beyond their bills. There will always have to be a mutual relationship between what they want and what we want in order to keep both the game and the community healthy.

As for the landing in the middle of an extremely nasty stewing pot…excuse me but i don’t think anyone wants to come here and post bugs instead of enjoying the game. U keep pointing out the wvw fix when in reality ppl are frustrated with the amount of infuriating bugs that pop up and just keep on piling up (NOT-JUST-WvW) with ANet not seeming to learn their lessons from the past very well or not figuring out how to prevent future issues properly (in this example i can use season 1 rewards that some ppl didn’t receive even now).

If u feel we are going overboard please just go and enjoy the game…but always keep this in mind. Every bit of progress that was made on this game since the start and all the upcoming fixes u see them do is purely because of ppl that QQ on the forums enough times that they take it into consideration.

Nothing ever comes from constantly telling them “hey your game is the bestest evur”. That only gives them a reason to never improve anything. On the contrary..as a developer u 80% of times skip any message that tell u how good of a job u did and instead concentrate on the negative posts that (some of them) might help u improve and create something better.

As long as u flower power ppl have this in mind..u can go enjoy the game as u want let us crazy players handle things ^.^. On the long run..you ruin your personal gaming experience by coming here and reading. Why do that? :P

If you enjoy the game so much u should be inside playing it. Not checking forums. The moment u start checking forums, means u have no reason to play.

Wrong! You don’t fight the same servers you fight any server that is that color with any server that is your color (Yay! Megaserver -.-) so it has no impact on your actual match-up, and the supply you get from winning can very easily be obtained from the camps, towers, or keeps in a BL so that also doesn’t influence the match-up and even when it does it’s very miniscule so as the person you were trying to disprove said eotm is not wvw.

he hee… I’d post some of the links, the application of behavioral research in game design with the ends you describe in mind, but I don’t think they’d be received well by Anet.

Some of the articles summarizing the research are quite illuminating and depressing at the same time maybe, but the fact of the applied science shouldn’t come as a surprise. If the games didn’t have the payoff (fix) built in people likely wouldn’t want to play and their play is the source of profit that keeps the business model viable.

When your game continuously incentivises players to reach for the next big thing; never really providing them with an “end” to content, when there is always someone better than you and the game very explicitly tells you that, then the kind of behaviour in this thread is precisely the result you should expect to see when the Next Big Thing is pulled out from beneath player’s feet.

The game is very well designed to be addictive. In addition to the social tides it created between players through guilds and servers, it is very simulating to the mind because of the enormous amount of nerve impulses each player experiences while playing.

The number of key clicks on keyboard for “w, s, a, d, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, space bar, v, etc..” in one minute of a WvW battle could be over server hundreds of times, may be over 500 times, plus the beautiful visual particle effects. If one plays for hours, which can be easily achieved, the amount of new information imprinted in players’ brain are enormous. And these experiences linger in the back of players’ mind and bring them back to play for the next time.

I never regretted not playing the game but have urges to play. And once starting a session, it always lasted longer than expected.

During the WvW rewards delay, Anet can monitor any adverse effect in the active WvW player population and micro-transaction during this period. It constantly tests the lower end limit of rewards. For instance, in PVE, the initial release of the “Festival of the Four Winds” almost had no rewards. Rewards were added after players complained.

From the progress so far, the developer seems to be confident that many of the players would come back to play WvW whether there are reward tickets or not because the players miss their guild mates as well as the stimulation of beautiful graphics, dynamic movement, and competitions the game provides.

beneficial experience or garbage?

Maybe the answer is different for each player.

If there is a problem I personally understand the complexities of computer software and there being an issue… however it hard for me to see what the issue is exactly. They have just said they “identified the issue” … which generally means they know what went wrong… and that means they have an idea of how to fix it.

I am sure they have database snapshots to show who was on what server at the end of the tournament. They have records showing who completed the meta. It should be dead simple to send out a new set of tickets. Even if they can’t identify who already received them, just make a new token and remove the old ones. Is there some other complexity that I am missing?

Customers being left in the dark like this makes Anet look kind of incompetent even though they clearly are not for making such an incredible game, but the impression it leaves is rather disturbing. I think if the problem was a bit more clearly explained people would be more willing to give Anet time to deal with the problem.

Well resolving the issue that way should be incredibly easy but it would also be kind of embarrassing don’t you think? Taking over a week to find out how to identify who hasn’t gotten tickets, then just scrapping them because it was too hard or took too long.

Come on Anet I have been working on my Eternity for months now and I was ready to craft it on Friday but then I saw the ticket vendor would not be released until Tuesday. To my dismay you have since then delayed the release even further. I could have farmed up half of the obsidian shards I need in this time; I have not though because of my faith that you would have the problem resolved in a reasonable time. I do have faith you guys are doing everything you can to fix the problem but can you guys at least tell us the minimum amount of time it will take to fix the issue so I can start using my time effectively.

It would really be helpful for the community to know what in the heck the issue is that is causing the problem.

Without that, everyone gravitates towards wondering “what the heck could be so hard”. Likewise, given the delay is getting excessive it might help to throw out some bonus such as letting us know if item prices might be discounted on account of the slow delivery etc.

Right now, I think we all are scratching our heads wondering when it could easily just be explained.

While I think it’s cute that most people are upset about ANET devs not getting this resolved over the weekend (Which by the way…Is when most people are off from working), I just don’t really understand why the vendor is disabled now for those that already have the tickets. I do think, on the other hand, that it’s hilarious that most of the guys in this thread are throwing a hissy fit over a weapon skin. I mean, it’s a weapon skin. You can live for a few days/week without it. It’s not even that great looking either.

I’ve played games that are a lot more far worse in terms of customer services and bug fixes…And trust me…Guild Wars 2 definitely does the job better than 90% of the companies out there. Why can’t you guys be more appreciative that they are giving you updates each day they are in the office…

As someone who’s dealt with business issues a lot, I understand that a good deal of customers are scum, entitled, and think it’s a simple issue when it’s clearly not. And there’s certainly a lot of that here too.

However, that doesn’t really change the nature of my job, as long as they’re paying customers. When demands are unreasonable, then they won’t be met, that’s fine, but the most important part, especially to the customers that are decent human beings and that will stay with you is to be forthright, and to make your words mean something. That means, “We estimate this time frame…” instead of a vague “it’s done when it’s done”. If it’s wrong, then well, it was an estimate, not a guarantee. It doesn’t matter if that customer is screaming, it’s not right for me to dismiss it as “dude, you could live without it for a few more days, couldn’t you?”. It may be right, but it doesn’t matter. The customer’s time is important!

And to be fair, I think the last response about the developers having families and stuff to be a little unprofessional even it were funny, but this isn’t a serious climate so it can pass. Yea, I wish that kind of excuse would work where I was around. It does exhibit a certain attitude though. Well, I don’t care too much, though there are many around here without a sense of humor and that’s hard to account for.

I think both customers and employees of Anet should realize that the customer frustration is directed towards Anet as an entity, not at the employees, necessarily, and it is wrong for angry gamers to shoot the messenger. That is, I understand that well, things are outside your control, but at the same time one can’t take it personally either. Too much.

Ultimately, my point is that it is really wrong to levy attacks on dissatisfied customers because it’s ultimately irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if the item in question is required or not. If I buy a chocolate bar at the grocery store and it turns out to be in terrible safe, you’d bet I’d be complaining, and if they tried to tell me “well, you don’t need chocolate”, that would be a good reason to avoid that store. The unfortunate truth is that if customers put up with the businesses’s negligence, there is no incentive for them to change, really. Though this goes the other around too… if the customer is complaining regardless but still here, then why bother.

Overall, I think this company could have more respect for its customer’s time (hey that search function…) when it comes to issues such as this and bigger ones. If this was an isolated incident, people would most likely be screaming less, but there’s been other fiascos and also lack of communication with other big changes such as megaservers and stuff so this kind of dissastication tends to fester. I mean the product is good but it could definitely be better and improving communication I think will save hassle on all ends. There’s a lot of people out there willing to shell out more money for this game. Give them a reason to I’d say.

I like the sarcasm, but it was to blatantly obvious. Please try to make it more angry and realistic while maintaining the sarcasm.

On another note, been patiently waiting and kinda would like the vendor to be at least open. Why enable the option menu to view the rewards but not be able to view the reward menu? I get the ticket thing with people not having the right amount, but why enable us to view the option of selecting the rewards menu when we cannot view it? Kinda teasing?

But unfortunately I don’t see this issue being resolved soon because of the way season one went. And if we’re going to keep the policy of “No one gets the rewards if some cannot”, may we just delete the tickets from the database and start a new if the problem gets fixed. They’re taking up space in my inventory and I don’t want to hold on to these things for forever hoping it gets fixed. Then again, don’t do that. Cause then everyone who didn’t get a chest will get one and there will be a bug causing those who did get a chest to not get the new currency. In my honest opinion, can we just enable the vendor already?

Well that’s my thoughts, guess it’s a free bump. One of the very few times I’ve logged into the forums to say anything.

I can think of another hugely anticipated game that just came out and is having MAMMOTH issues right now. Kind of puts this issue in GW2 in perspective for me…. I am taking a “patience, Grasshopper” attitude. Things could be way worse. At least we know GW2 devs are working on it

Guys, the last update was on Friday. Today is Monday. Contrary to popular belief, our developers have lives and families that they would like to live and see respectively.

Believe me when I say that we will provide an update as soon as we have an update to provide. Until that time, your continued patience is appreciated.

Hey guy, the last due date was on Tuesday. Today is Monday. Contrary to popular belief, our player base has standards that we would like to uphold regarding our developers.

Believe me when I say this game will be dead if you don’t bring us what you said you would bring us, this goes beyond the “rewards” of season 1 AND 2 but I will refer you to Carver’s post. Until that time, I’ll wait on the basis of false hope and nostalgia that I have for GW1.

First, who are you to represent the player base? Second, the supposed release was tuesday, BUT unforseen problems happen. Would you want some shmoe getting 2x the rewards (which is why the disabled them in the first place) and you not? Dont you think that going through the million plus players takes some time? Not to mention the time given need to create a fix and a method for dealing with the players sitting on 2x the tokens. on top of all that the have to keep up with a release schedule, podcasts, and regular new items. and to squeeze that in to 4 days before the weekend is alot to ask. Be glad that they arent the company to say “we are not going to do this anymore so here are some generic rewards so tough cookies” like I have seen in many games. While we are on the weekend thing do remember that like many offices do not run on the weekends (what most people call days off). With all this said, if you still think that they are being lazy or that they are not living up to expectations then you have no real concept of reality when it come to whats going on. So in short like to see you do better……..
