i can say i spent too much time in the game and i had over 10 k hour on WvW .
And my point of view is from EU tier 1
However after HoT, WvW game mode die for following reasons .
There is no motivation :
- The reward is too small in order to spend – X ammount of gold / time to destroy 1 fortified gate , considering there will be -0 defence .
- as long as 1 upgraded objective is defended is nearly imposible to capture it . majority will just avoid atack defended objectives , as long as they are upgraded.
For the reasons mentioned above , the remaining WvW population play mostly for fights..
However loot bags value in WWW constantly decrease , since there are same rewards since 3 years, wich are no longer demanded on the market
The new maps are nice, but again, there is no motivation for players to play them constantly, and the tier 3 upgrades demotivate players to try havoc groups.
Compared with 2 weeks ago , when you could at least find fights betwen guilds on prime time, after HoT on the new borderlands you need to run 10-20 minutes to find an enemy guild for 1 minute of fight.
The achivements nerf is also kinda sad . I would personally prefer to be able to track kills after ultimate dominator, since i finished it nearly 2 years ago , but cannot track any achivement related to www .
As well you cannot invite players outisde from your guild in arena to fight against them (unless you stay in same party) … so at the moment except spvp , you cannot fight any enemy

So in order to motivate players to join WvW again please :
Increase rewards / add new rewards, / add new achivements / remove tier 3 dors /walls upgrades , add new masteries

Tyler said in another thread that Anet want to make a distinction between WvW Masteries (now called WvW Abilities) and the new PvE Masteries. For this reason, I think it’s reasonable that Masteries don’t level in WvW, even though it’s a bit of a bore for people who like to spread their play-types out.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

buuuuut. a while back I was on Crystal Desert, and moved to FA, after specializations and the complete bombardment by YB breaking into T1 and dropping TC down, FA was in the bottom for a while. if I played in anything except EB at primetime, I was mostly alone, facing zergs that would just train around the maps constantly, so I could only MAYBE take a camp if I was fast without getting interuppted.

This update is refreshing for me, FA is doing well, the fights seem a little more….consistent?

I’m not sure if it’s because the big zergs haven’t figured everything out yet…buuuuuut

in my opinion, It’s catered to people being organized and GOOD, instead of just having a blob of really bad players(no offense to zergs or anybody inside them it’s just usually the dominating servers are made of a blob of people following a handful of actually competent players)

I do think….some of the auto upgrades are a LITTLE bit punishing, but it does also discourage having 2 people take an entire map overnight type stuff.

Before the expansion, I played every night for hours. Since HoT hit, I’ve skipped entire evenings with no real desire to log on. The new WvW maps mark the end of small scale and roaming, not to mention defensive play; Spvp is a joke now that Ranked is unavailable which pushes all the premades with their DH clowns into Unranked.

The sad thing is, despite stating the post-release they would make WvW their top priority, I don’t think anything is going to happen to salvage this game mode I have LOVED SO MUCH for years now.

They should recycle the Deserted Map for some PvE use and bring Alpine back. I think the concept that WvW needed new maps was a red herring. WvW benefits almost entirely from more enjoyable fights. Anything that doesn’t serve that purpose is extraneous and while it may have importance it should be considered secondary.

I don’t know how WvW will be in couple months from now. At least currently the state is much worse than it was before HoT.

What I do know after spending few days reading and writing to these forums – the feedback is there. I don’t bother fighting the windmill any longer than this on this front. Going to wait and see what happens and make my conclusions when it is time for that.

All the issues are on the table. If they choose to wipe them under rug after people get bored to write about them – so be it. My hopes about getting some realistic fixes are rather slim because if Anet lived on same planet with WvW community, I wouldn’t even be here complaining about the updates.

Ball is on their side of the court (again).

I think the concept that WvW needed new maps was a red herring. WvW benefits almost entirely from more enjoyable fights. Anything that doesn’t serve that purpose is extraneous and while it may have importance it should be considered secondary.

Personally, I never could relate to the notion that we needed new maps. Even after 2+ years of playing primarily WvW, I wasn’t bored with the borderland maps; I thought they were great. I loved those maps, and my familiarity with them just made them all the more fun to play in because they “got out of the way” of fighting.

The only thing we needed was fixing existing bugs and issues…not creating a whole new batch of brand new ones.

It is a strange thing to me that GW2 WvW was seemingly a better game at launch than it is today. I like that we have a new class and existing classes got expanded. However the build system is now more rigid allowing for fewer build choices and the fundamental issues with WvW still remain.

A new map could have been refreshing if kept relatively simple but the overly engineered delivered map is… well… over engineered.

Funny, because months before HoT annoucement, people were complaining that WvW and the maps were getting stale. The current concussions in map chat is most people love the new maps.

Also, the new maps are pretty bare of dolyaks, wolves, griffons….but somehow its pve intensive…. huh?

But yes, lets go back to karma training the old maps like We’ve been doing.

The new class and elites went a long way toward resolving part of the issue (it has been 3 years since we had a new weapon, class or even race) but if GW2 wants to create a fresh WvW scene they need to address the stale matches and population imbalances as well.

The changes are huge, and for me when I first walked into the new WvW, I just saw it as a new battlefield that needs to be tamed and conquered. They disagree.. but still they are all stacked on EB or in queue for it.
T1…t2 after HoT there was only one map queue.. and thats EB.
So if they agree or not, sorry to disrespect the “serious” players but….i couldn’t care less..
The truth is since these maps were launched there were no queues or barely any because they are terrible as a wvw map..
They are an awesome map to rotate with EOTM map for example or maybe to rotate with EB…being alpine bls as fix and EB or desertborderland as the maps rotating.. but nop.. they ignored completely the feedback ad just threw it on the players faces: “deal with it, haha!”
T2 50 man queue on a wednesday night on the first week after expansion with new maps…new pve maps and the queue being on the only map NOT changed…
Yep sir…everyone clearly disagree with me.. the new BL is so awesome that players are avoiding it cause they fear to interfere on such a perfect enviroment…

EBG has always been the superior map to Alpine but most GvG groups leave EBG to PUGs unless they have nothing else going on and want to zerg bust. I say this because EBG being Q’d over borderland maps isn’t a new thing.

What is a very new thing is a general lack of any significant guild presence during NA prime in the borderlands at least in T1 and T2 (I have been in both recently). Time will tell if this is the new PvE content in HoT or a poor fit for the style of play in WvW but my guess it is both.

I am always on those boards and you are cherry picking them. I agree that some people are PvEing because they have to because WvW got screwed when it comes to elite specs (and about to be screwed even more when the chests go soul bound), but that isn’t the reason why people are not on the new maps. The truth is that people that actually are WvW oriented, hate the new maps.

No offense taken, Dasenthal. We’re a community and we try to help each other out through tough times like this.

Through my experience these last few days (almost a week), I’ve ran into groups of invaders after groups, battling off for their tower and defending the tower til my small group and I died. I never follow zergs and almost always lead a group of 5 with me. Though it isn’t as crowded as it was before HoT release, I have to say that it is getting more and more populated compare to the first day of HoT release. Each day I am seeing more and more groups of invaders as well as my fellow comrades, commander, and friends playing in the World. So there are indeed opposition from what I am seeing, and my server is a Medium-size server, Ehmry Bay.

Please note that I am not saying the current new BL is flawless. I do not like some of the changes as well. To point some of the following of my likes and dislikes:

1) I like the new Sentry. Very useful and the scouting system really is good for knowing how many people is at that position and if I can handle it or not. If it’s just 3, I’ll rush over to the nearest camp which they are highly likely heading to and fight them off. If it’s a zerg, I’ll rush to the nearest toward and prepare for the assault. Done this a lot recently.

2) I dislike the PvE stuff as well. I don’t enjoy it one bit. -_-

3) I dislike the wind turret that blows me off the bridge of the Palace. I do not mind it at the champion’s room though. It gives me a challenging obstacle to work around. Mind your surrounding.

4) I dislike the fact that SW tower, for example, cannot be used to treb “new bay”… sorry I hadn’t taken the time to familiarized myself with the new name.

5) I miss the simplicity of the old WvW map, but I have some “sinister” plans with the complexity of the new WvW map. Me and my crew of mischief have something in store for our next Invaders this weekend.

Completely agree with most in this thread.

Tagged up during the day and during prime time and it always ends the same. Form up on BL, run clockwise or anti clockwise around the map PvDing and popping battlemarkers.

20 minutes later you have flipped everything and seen 1-2 enemies. Load EOTM, go grind HP’s or charge into an upleveled blob. They die once and leave the map. Log off bored.

Why couldn’t Anet have introduced WvW guild upgrades via a WvW mastery or tied guild xp into a guilds actions in WvW so those playing the game mode actually play it instead of running around PvE pressing 1 on stuff to get upgrades 1-2 months later only to never need said upgrades because everyone else is in PvE grinding upgrades / playing another game.

So why couldn’t anet of introduced stuff like:

Guild levels and unlocks:

Level 1: Claim a Camp
Level 2: Claim a Tower
Level 3: Claim a keep
Level 4: +5 Supply on claimed objectives
Level 5: Turtle Banner
Level 6: Emergency WP

etc etc (not in any particular order and there are TONS of skills / upgrades that could have been added per level)

To gain Guild XP (GXP) / WvW Mastery tracks be creative and reward participation in WvW (Not EOTM!)

For example: A objective claimed by a guild rewards GXP:

A Camp claimed at the end of each tick rewards 10 GXP
A Tower claimed at the end of each tick rewards 20 GXP
A Keep claimed at the end of each tick rewards 30 GXP
An Enemy Garrison claimed at the end of each tick rewards 50 GXP
SM claimed at the end of each tick rewards 60 GXP
Bonus GXP for every active buff on the claimed objective per tick.

So Camp / Tower / Keep / Enemy Garrison / SM

Each completed tier of upgrade of objectives rewards BONUS GXP per tick:
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 6 GXP

Each kill in WvW by a guild member that is representing rewards 1 GXP
Each Dollyak event or defend an objective event rewards 10 GXP
Each cap of an enemy objective rewards 1/2/4/8/16 GXP

You have introduced the pop ups in the middle of the screen. You could have added a way for scouts to use this and be rewarded for it. Run to sentry, report keep under attack – pop up on screen alerting borderland. (yes it’s easily trollable etc – just ideas that would have been ten times better than what we have)

Yes Karma training would be a viable way of increasing GXP, but then again so would be holding SM and fully upgrading it.

But could you imagine – you would actually have enemy on all borderland fighting tooth and nail to hold that objective that their guild has claimed. A big blob guild of 40 people holding down SM, 3 guilds on the borders trying to hold bay / hills. And some poor sod with Garrison claimed calling for help and everyone telling him to do one because they might lose their fully upgraded objective in the mean time.

Guilds would form mini alliances, maybe have people double representing guilds to keep claims going and to assist each other during down time or off peaks (Next 2 paragraphs for this). Either way it creates diversity and makes things interesting. Got a vendetta against a guild that always slates you on the forums? Go reset their claimed / upgraded stuff every day

There are hundreds of guilds that play WvW and would like upgrades, so be creative with claiming. Up to 5 guilds can claim one objective and each guild can only choose 1 or 2 buffs to apply. If a guild has 10 “buffs” and uses 2 on garrison, these 2 buffs cannot be used on another objective in another map.

For a guild to maintain a claim on an objective xxx members of said guild must verify their claim by talking to the lord every 2 hours. 0000-0200, 0201-0400, 0401-0600. If enough members don’t talk to the lord the guild loses it’s claim and cannot re-claim until the next time slot or even 3-4 hours.

And finally the oasis event – it’s too easy for what it does. If an outnumbered server is already on the backfoot and bunkered with their OP siege and buffs, what chance do they have of holding stuff when this giant laser fries the gates. Why couldn’t the event have been a Orb event.

So the event starts and each keep (Garrison / Hills / Bay) spawns an NPC into the 3 sides of oasis. The NPCs walk at the same pace to the middle to collect an orb – first one there picks it up and proceeds to walk it back to the friendly keep or a specific location. The NPC cannot be killed but can be CC’d and if xxx amount of enemy players stand on the NPC for xxx amount of time the orb is reset and this time the NPCs walk speed is increased by double. So on and so forth, each time it is reset the NPCs speed doubles.

If Said NPCs reach the specific point with the Orb – it grants which ever server has it a WP in the keep for the next 4 hours until the event is back up. If the home border team gets it to their garrison it could spawn double the sentries on maps or double all supply into Garrison for the event time.

Either way i think WvW upgrades should have been tied to WvW participation, much like PvE and PvP. Not this bloody snoozefest PvD train we have been reduced too. Can you imagine if the PvE crowd had to spend 1000’s of gold in their guild just to unlock a glider, and wait a month with 1000’s more of gold spent just to reach ley line glider? Yeah …

I and many others I play with are happy overall with the new maps, might be a little large but hey, we’ll learn the maps sooner or later.

Only issue I have, that I’ve had since before the beta’s for wvw started, was that they might make the keeps and towers “too” defensible, but that remains to be seen, Ive tried scouting Garri, and that’s tough to do now with the sheer size of it, and not knowing which parts of the wall can be broken. So.. who knows, only time can tell.

As for the first few days losing BL queue’s? Our guild pulled out n went to EB due to lag, the new maps were lagging horribly every time 2 zergs got near each other.

Yesterday again.. we went to the new map… pvded for 20 mins.. got 2 GM done and ran back to ebg where the fights were…
So many possibilities to improve the game mode… and they use the only one that actually didnt work when they first tried and do it all over.. but this time instead of letting ppl choose rather to play or not EOTM.. you just dont have a choice anymore…

This all kitten happened years ago. it wasnt an expansion but there was this huuuuugh kitteng change in WvW and suddently tons of post popped week 1 in the forum like.
RIP WvW RIP IT ALL. GAME BROKEN.

if you still don’t get my Point i make it more simple.
this is week 1. people are doing the hero Points bro they want the new classes the new skills. you can’t rly whine week 1 wait a month if things ded then we got a problem :P

as a gvg player that like scrim in borderland im gonna say this sucks big time. oh wait we got halls of order know. all cool then and obsidian sanctum! GREAT.

as a pug player im in love.
all new possibilities ok gw2 is out of the time. its 2015. not 2013. 2013 was the good Days so many players so much fights game is dying a bit :P

IF just IF everyone goes ppt mode like who will be the next top 1 server which i dont Think will happen but if it happens, scouting, roaming, zergs Everything gonna be a lot harder for pugs and more interesting.

i rly suggest people stop make Quick decisions and give it a month.
and if things doesnt change maybe you should start fill your friend list with people from other Guilds that might wanna fight in the borderlands.

-tbh that means some people here need to stop block when you get rekt 24/7

Lets unveil the mistery for you:
1 year ago ppl screamed:RIP wvw dead… game deasld.. you ruined the fun..
And than one or two weeks later these threads disappeared.. well they didnt really disappear..just decreased in numbers.. but lets see why:
PVE point of view: megaservers in all maps.
Now back when the game was on top this was never necessary..we had several overlays of each map floaded with players… and than suddenly maps started to get empty…not enough players. To run bosses and events..
So yeah pve suffered a lot during ladt year if you consider a single server point of view
WvW point of view:
After the decrease on the number of those threads..appeared the threads asking for merge..
T3 dead….t4 dead…cant find enemies…bored of pvd… which server to transfer for some fights.. and we got to a point where NOT even t1 managed to have queues and numbers during weekly basis.
One year ago my server was T1 and we managed to have queues in 3 maps at least 3-4 times during the week.. reset night was like tjis: 3-4 maps queued being 20-40 man queue on most and 90+ queue on main zerg map.. and that lasted for 5 hours usually.
Today my server is t2 but last months before we moved to t2, situation was:
Queuevon reset night and if we were really trying hard one extra time in one map during the entire week.
Reset night: queue on 1 or 2 maps with 0-10 on one and 10-30 on the main zerg map…
Yeah we had lots leaving server.. but ask around…BG had same situation on queues decreasing over the last year… JQ as well.. BG even opened for transfers lol…
So yeah.. WvW suffered hard last year..
Lots of ppl left game to ESO or any other game…even that they are not better than gw2 is..but because they are trying harder to supply a good enviroment for mass pvp..

So dont just say that this is just a 1-2 week show of ppl crying like one year ago…
Cause i am not sure that wvw could handle another exodus like the one that happened back then…
Why do you think that from 6 t1/t2 servers So many servers that were over stacked for more than one year already all opened for transfers together

BG/TC/YK just some examples…
We are suffering.. and these new BLs are going to hurt the game mode even more..
Pray for whoever you trust for these threads not to disappear. That means ppls still have faith and still expect something.. cause if they do disappear, that means they gave up and moved on… and trust me.. that is not what you…me or any wvw player wants (to have players giving up the game mode)..

Actually i like the new maps to be honest. It provides some really interesting mechanics to use for your advantage either for defense or attacking.

I like the new automatic upgrade. Its refreshing to see that. No one can troll and grief your server by queing a wrong upgrade only to make you loose the keep-tower supplies.
I like that the new T3 gates are demotivate an enemy blob to melt a gate in 1-2 minutes. I like the new t3 walls where i can place a siege weapon to defend out of the reach of the red circles on walls. There are still many things worth mentioning but that is for another thread.

I also like the new guild claim mechanic, that will come to play once the guild upgrades are done. As for fights. Fights can be found everywhere. There is enough room for fights on the new borderlands.

Of course right now the maps are feeling empty because most of the WvW players are busy earning the Hero Points for their classes Specialization. In 1-2 weeks the maps will be fuller.

A good indication of how popular Anet thought the new maps would be. They made the Lords harder to kill, heck some of them are more annoying then if an enemy group showed up to fight you. And they put in traps that can kill you.

Pretty clear. Why would you need Lords killing people and silly little traps killing people? Right! Because there is no one else there to kill you! The only thing to stop you is getting blown off a mountain and rage quiting!

Ps. Before all the hate post. this is mostly a joke. Mostly.
