WvW and Alt F4
I agree. They need to “stay online” at least until they log back in and reconnect to their character.
I didn’t encounter it until last week and then in 3 separate back to back 1v1 fights 3 different people did it to me.
Frustrating to say the least.
I find this very common too. There needs to be a harsher punishment for alt+F4 while in the WvW map, heck at least delay their log-in back to the game by some time or something.
Be ever so careful with this, please Arenanet.
Sometimes people can’t control their internet connection and get disconnected repeatedly.
Lots of people around the world suffer from intermittent outages and lines down due to storms in their city. When they have to do repair they disconnect quickly but it takes you completely offline and there is nothing that mandates that they must have 100% uptime or alternate routes. When they have to cut the lines to repair, there is no way around it, they drop your connection too because you run on the same lines though you weren’t in the area with issues.
If you can capture a key press combination that shows someone is trying to thwart a death, that’s one thing but if it is performed just with a “network error” that could break some hearts.
I used to get disconnected at my old house sometimes for 4 hours straight at 1 minute cycles and the cable company never saw it happen when they came to diagnose. DHCP just dropped and wouldn’t update even thought the lease wasn’t expired. I know it can happen and repeatedly and when there is a monopoly on ISP service, you have no alternative companies to give you service.
When I imagine things other games put in that debuff you just because you disconnect it saddens me, not everyone is pulling their network cables out just to be so cheap as to avoid a death.
It must take these people over 5 minutes to log back in – they have to restart their client, then login and wait on a screen, then if they aren’t in overflow, join pvp and maybe get in a queue again. Wasted wasted time, I hope someone fills their spot when they log lol
@psirca Maybe not everyone is, but we had 7 to 10 different people do it in less than 40 minutes in the eternal battlegrounds puzzle today, and it has happened so much it is incredibly frustrating.
What I would like to see is the old “keep character logged in for 30 secs to 1 minute” more than enough time to kill someone if they are fighting.
Conversely I would also like to see something to help people who have genuine DCs. Being kicked out of WvW after having to queue for hours due to a DC is ridiculous.
There should be some kind of a period of grace, perhaps tied in to the being logged in when they DC.
As it is right now this is starting to run rampant, which is frankly, pathetic.
^ Whoa quite a lengthy argument for a segment of people who would get booted out of WvW anyway if they disconnected. If they died within 10 seconds of lagging out they probably had it coming.
In addition, if their Internet only flaked out for a second, they might be able to get back in before they were removed from WvW.
Really this seems like win/win ….assuming ANet ever does anything about it of course…
If repair costs are cheaper, people probably won’t do it as much. And did I mention what’s happening in WvW worlds?
Some tier X server beating up the other servers because of 24/7 coverage with everything taken, and then the players who have to go up against them have to be prepared to fork out 50 silver coins in repair bills?
Yeah.
Even IF there are people with severe internet issues their presence probably is close to nothing compared to the idiotic amount of ALT-F4’s I’ve been seeing people do as of late.
I roam myself and unless all of these people have internet issues whenever they get to downed state, I say put some kind of punishment on it. I don’t really care about missing out on loot or the kill, I just think it’s insanely childish. Especially if the other server has no queue and within 2 minutes the person is back running around again.
There is a Elonah player (100b human warr) I have had the pleasure of running into 4 times in less than 30 minutes. Got him/her to downed state each time and he/she alt-f4’ed all 4 times. The worst thing was that he/she kept coming back and eventually even did /laugh and /dance from a distance. I simply did a /wave and went along but I realize some people can get really annoyed by it.
It’s kind of hilarious to me. I fought the same guy 4 times in a borderlands earlier this week and every single time he alt f4’d out. I think he was too embarrassed that I kept killing him 1v1. On about the third fight, he would get down to about half health and then just instantly hit alt f4 ahaha.
I say people with crappy connections or lag issues deserve to be killed equally as much as someone who Alt-F4s when downed.
Basically, when you disconnect, character should persist in the world for 5-10 seconds to allow you to be killed / finished.
All in favour?
They still lose. Regardless of lack of death, the moment someone force logs to avoid dying, they lost the fight. They must re-log into the gaming, knowing they are now not only a loser, but an exploiter as well.
I feel I need to reiterate the sentiments of others on this. In just one hour this morning I had 5 people logout on me.
Anecdote time.
I was loitering around WvW waiting for people to find me – eventually a Necro arrives. It’s a close, fair, 1v1 fight and he wins. I respawn and run back to try to find him. Locatating him I initiate another fight, and down him. He instantly fears me and logs out. Some minutes later he’s back, beating up a fellow Gandaran, so I help him out, once again down the Necro….once again he logs out.
It’s easy to say that “well they’ve lost anyway”…but they are also stopping you from achieving your Monthly WvW Kills achievement. Perhaps ArenaNet could change this to downing players instead of killing them, if actually finishing them is going to become less and less common.
Thiefs are the worst for this. Thief is becomming more and more synonymous with “Coward”. 80% of them build simply for running away and stealthing and even if you outsmart that they’ve still got the logout option. It’s so sad it comes to this.
In another online game I used to play there was always a 10 second timer when you wanted to leave the game, regardless of how you wanted to get out. Why can’t this be implemented here?
As someone already mentioned this should be addressed by capturing ALT+F4 (I’d even go as far as to monitor a "end task or tend task tree in the CTRL+ATL+DEL as well), not with a general disconnection.
It’s not Alt+F4.
Its Log Out.
You can log out regardless of the situation.
I want a system that keeps your character logged in for a short time when the client itself is closed without using Log Out/Exit to Desktop so as to prevent;
- Players from closing the client to prevent a death
- Players from being locked out of WvW maps that are full because of a disconnect
And then add in a system in which you can’t log out in combat.
This would fix everything, and it’s so simple. Even WoW does this.
