Why are guilds being so severly kittenblocked in this game? We cannot play together as a guild, we cannot run events for wvw as there are several things preventing tactical coordination. The first offense being the fact that the queues for wvw are sporadic, unreliable and leave about half the guild sitting around waiting all night long for a pop, no matter how long they have been queued. They relog, change zones, requeue, no matter what they try (after about 2 hours of waiting) it just never pops for them. While others are getting in in minutes.
The second offense being the group size. I understand the devs want to make the “commander” position something to be worked for and earned, it being something everyone on the map from that world can use. That rank is something everyone can raly to, I understand ..still isn’t the best implimentation as that rank can fall on anyone who has the money instead of wvw experience. cough There needs to be something in place to support guilds playing together. The commander can still be a world wide visable rally point, but shouldn’t the guild leaders of WvW be something like Sergeants for their guilds?

Not entirely sure what you mean by your first statement.
for your second statement, what does matching have to do with anything other than the fact that they aren’t going to get very accurate rankings if they aren’t allowing it to be judged while they have the large coordinated efforts of guilds as a whole in them?

Currently I feel for you, we have much the same problem. However i do not think this is a guild targeted issue per se. We did buy the commander book woohoo, it adds a squad channel, an icon for “the commander” and allows him to place one of three marks on the map……………….
He cannot see who is in the squad, nor can he remove people from the squad.

I agree there should be different books for different group sizes SGT, LT, Commander to allow dynamic gameplay. IE a 10 man SGT and his team could join a commander and have the squad chat and grp chat without having to be in a faceless zerg.

It would be easier if i just did this…..

I agree the mechanics of GW2 hinder and prevent guilds from doing activities and events. There are no effective in game tools or mechanics for coordinating and we’re forced to use 3rd party communication programs which also have drawbacks. Let’s take a look at how we can communicate in game with more than 5 guild members doing an activity.

Use guild chat: We have almost 100 members in our guild and you never have every single guild member doing the same activity. Flooding guild chat with WvW talk and content is not effective and often WvW talk can get lost in guild chatter.

Commander and Squad: How many people in a guild actually have this? Also, unless this has been changed, you can’t flag yourself public or private. Your 20 person guild activity now has another 30 people who invited themselves to the commander. Simply not feasible for closed private events.

5-man guilds running together using 3rd party voice program: This is extremely difficult to do effectively without being able to see health and locations of anyone not in your 5 person group. We’ve ran with multiple 5 man groups in WvW and people always get scattered or you can’t find someone who’s under attack as they are lost in a sea of green dots. Not everyone uses voice chat either, and we shouldn’t have to force people to download, install and use a headset/mic for every activity. Not feasible.

Create a new or temporary guild: Someone mentioned one time of creating a new or temporary guild for people to join for a specific activity. If we wanted to communicate in WvW everyone would just join the WvW guild and use it to communicate. This is not feasible either, we want influence to go to our PRIMARY guild. You shouldn’t have to have a large portion of the guild jump to a temp guild just to communicate.

Solution?

Simply add a Warhammer Online “warband” system or Raid style frame for 20 people. You would have a dedicated chat channel, see each other’s “dots” on the map with a unique color and be able to call targets and see health bars. You would also need to have the ability to toggle public or private. This is something that can be used in both WvW and PvE. It’s really a no brainer… look what’s worked in most modern MMO’s.

- 5-man system for small groups.
- Warband/Raid system for medium size forces ( 20 people/4 groups)
- Commander/squad system for large scale offensives.

I posted on a similar thread about the “20 man groups” and i totally agree. As a guild we LOVE wvw, its why we came from Warhammer Online into GW2; the open pvp of WvWvW had so much more potential, more points to take, more strategy potential and even if your the underdog there are still a lot of things you can do however when most of our guild can not get in wvw at the same time (admittedly our que times are not as long as some of the highly populated servers) it makes working as a guild difficult and are sometimes forced to ‘run with the zerg’ and well, we all know zerg mentality….

Once we did get a few guildies all in wvw at the same time, 15 of us, trouble is we had to have three groups of 5, we were all using vent but it was extremely difficult to see where everyone was in order to make an informed decision as to where to go. It wasnt impossible but was harder than say Warhammer Online.

Please Anet allow for 20 man ‘warband’ warband style groups. Really utilize your map marking system and also, if a group is all qued for wvwvw reserve those slots and dont just let us trickle in one at a time. By the time we all get into wvw its getting late and some of us have to leave.

Oh and BTW we are still loving the wvwvw, these suggestions would make it that much better and make the move from Warhammer into GW2 100% worth it.

I just hope it’s actually what players want…. an easy way to group with guild members or friends for private events.

It’d also be great to see a guild commander tag where only guild members can see. Sometimes our guild likes to run in and out of the main zerg, and given our server isn’t that guild orientated yet, it is unacceptable to tag up while there’s another commandrr already. And people do not join squad properly which leads to them complaining about confusion and such. However doing this without a guild tag is pretty difficult itself, its pretty hard to coordinate interguildly..

Send me 1000g and I will stop trolling WvW forum.
