WvW and Megaservers Don't Mix
Keep megaservers for the open world maps, use home servers for cities.
Doh.
Bottom line is WvW is in such a sad state, it’s the worst I’ve seen.

I believe that stagnant is the official buzzword.
HAHAHAHA…. I was just writing my own post about this issue too! My solution is to have a new zone, the Palace or whatever they want to call it. They already used most other names I could think of off the top of my head.
I asked for a staging area in WvW long ago. As a gathering/training grounds with Golems to attack and structure that reset. Just like the Golems in the PvP lobby are for the sPvP players.
Something needs to be done. I hadn’t realized it was already so fully implemented. The release notes said it was going to start in low level areas first, but man it spread quick.
Talking in Vigil Keep turned so hostile, so quickly I was dumbfounded. Not all guilds are WvW … where are we supposed to have server based conversations?
I used to motivate my server into joining me in WvW and to follow my tag. I would reward random player with loot for following me around at the end of the night.
I can’t do this anymore because I’ve no idea who I’m talking to when I try to rally support for WvW.
On rest night LA used to be filled with people shouting to join them for WvW. People would be trying to motivate people to get ready for a great night of fighting but that’s all gone now.
Man, I don’t think my server was spamming LA as much as some other servers.
This really stinks for militia servers like ours. We of course have a dedicated group that live in wvw, but call to arms were very common pre mega.
If a Huge push or defensive stand was needed, map chat LA. Many would respond for the immediate need and happily go back to pve until the next call to arms.
Without any sort of server identity in pve, why care about server identity in wvw (from a pvxer point of view).

^this^
why care about server identity in WvW? Get off my server please.
why care about any identity. Who cares who you are if you don’t.

Doh.
The obvious solution. I can’t believe they just mindlessly put all cities to this task despite the fact that people were already voicing their concerns before this change.
There is no excuse for this level of obliviousness.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
In my opinion, this was the only thing that bothered me about the megaservers. In a PvE point of view— the megaservers are great. When you’re playing a mass multiplayer online role playing game, the more, the merrier. But things are a little awkward when you also have servers pitted against servers, and obviously those of us who are fans of WvW have a huge amount of server pride.
I’d say the best solution to this problem would be a server wide chat. Sort of like a map chat but on a server wide level. And yes, it would probably get turned off by some, making a call to arms arguably inefficient. A server wide chat would be useful for other things too, and I think it would be used by others… so heck, why not add that anyways.
The other thing that would be cool to have, is a “call to arms” option for commanders to alert their server that they need assistance in a particular borderland or EB. To prevent abuse of such an option, it could be a generic message like “Defensive Call to Arms in Home Borderland” etc. It would also be really useful to have so we didn’t have to send messengers hoping around to each borderland to send word— we would be given the ability to coordinate our server to where we needed them, when we needed them.

While there are still a lot of issues with Megaservers for open-field PvE too, the above would at least be an improvement for WvW, and allow people to have a bit of stable community ground to stand on.
Even if it was just ONE city that was dedicated to a particular server it would provide a community rally point — sort of like a server-guild-hall. Currently, pretty much every single ‘feature’ of the new system hurts player communities and breaks up the cohesiveness of servers for the purpose of WvW.

We sort of have that already, it’s just a matter of adjusting the implementation a bit. It’s called the team channel. Right now it’s redundant with map in WvW and not usable in PvE. All that is needed is to make team available in PvE with the scope of “players in the zone that are on the same server as you”.

Love this idea, but I could see it getting abused. Maybe have a long cooldown on the feature or something.
Team chat is different than map chat it that team chat does not get suppressed.
I love the idea of a staging area for WvW – even if it is just a zone similar to PvP only separated for servers and then have the gates for the different zones.
Team chat do get suppressed.
If ever Anet will make Team chat server wide and on all maps, it would be rather based on EOTM not WvW.

I think the race cities are fine as is, but would be nice to have LA not be a megaserver when it gets rebuilt.

Was meant as return identity somewhere in pve to give meaning to server in wvw, not remove it from wvw. From a Pvx point of view, it doesn’t’ make sense otherwise. Minimally a server only hub like la, but I don’t like mega anywhere tbh….
Maybe not right now. But eventually, they’ll leave the server vs server style behind and go the alliance vs alliance route of Planetside 2 or ESO. With various campaigns (i.e. server instances inherent in each alliance match up).
EotM & the PvE Megaserver were just the warm up to alliance style play, I think.

Maybe they could add 2 letters beside players names to better know what server that player is in. For example [AR] (axme)highlandria or [YB]. This could help relieve some of the issues.

My thoughts exactly.

Then they have a problem that GW2 engine wont handle enought players in WvW and WvW maps are small.
That’s why they have the megaserver.
As soon as megaservers were announced, I knew this would be a problem, and also advanced a server chat option.
And team and map are not, imho, that redundant in WvW. Most of the time, we pass important information in team, and general matters or chit-chat in map.
Night crew grew very small lately, with the impossibility to speak in map, and the fact that they made a chat change that wasn’t advertised means many on the server don’t see the messages (eg: french server players, if they have their client in english, won’t see french people’s messages if the client of the messagers is in french).
So not only do we have to map hop, we have to make twice the same message with different languages, because most players don’t know they are no more seeing all messages, all that with the risk that enemy servers see the message
Please, a server chat would be great!

Its not the launch…its the warm up. No doubt they have issues…but I think its coming.
I played the big ol ESO WvW map during Beta and after before cancelling my acct. The whole time I was in there, I kept thinking how much fun a map of this size would be in GW2.
And it would be. Giant zergs are inefficient outside of taking a keep in a map that size. If you want to control territory, you “have” to work with smaller groups. Scouting becomes important.
I’m not pushing ESO either. I don’t think its as good a game as GW2. But they had some good ideas. Ones that GW2 “seems” to be leaning towards.

I agree. Boy do I ever agree.

We have no way to do this…
Anet took away any way for us to " home city " our servers.
They even took out the free crafting stations – you have to pay or go into WvW… or cities… yeah right on the last one… not.

Server chat would get rid of a lot of problems but it would need channels as well.
WvW and Megaserver don’t mix – it’s damaging and disheartening to many.

I don’t want a “no name alliance”, our servers are as important to WvW as “United States” or “Canada” or “Phillipines” would be to those who live there and honor their national heritages.
Megaservers threw a huge and unmanageable monkey wrench into an already stressed WvW world.
Maybe they could add 2 letters beside players names to better know what server that player is in. For example [AR] (axme)highlandria or [YB]. This could help relieve some of the issues.
No, I thought about that as well but it doens’t address WvW and map calls at all.
Map calls is how some servers won many matches last season. I don’t understand why the powers that be didn’t understand that or care about the dynamic they were skewing so badly – and it has mattered to most servers.

That is the idea I had but didn’t want to even voice until someone else did.
I agree, Lion’s Arch should be THE city that is “server specific” and would not be hard to implement at all.

Stagnant and bugged. Between the two we are in sorry shape without a “home” base.
I agree, Lion’s Arch should be THE city that is “server specific” and would not be hard to implement at all.
Seems an obvious choice but I don’t know enough about how they implemented their mega server tech to say how easy it would be to disconnect. The more important point is atm we don’t even really have a Lions Arch.
I think ANET should make a World AP pool (all the AP earned by players on a given world) that has some effect on how the Living Story events progress so lower population worlds can take their time with LS if they choose. Seems like rebuilding Lions Arch will be the next step in the Living Story and could be done on a world by world basis so different worlds could maybe all have their own flavor of LA sort of the like the voting thing did last year but this time it is a choice which parts and services to rebuild first or something. Would be a way for a World to build up some community outside of WvW and maybe a source of world pride.
Still holding out hope that some of kind of World wide chat (think of it like Alliance chat) is possible but it did not sound like something ANET could do back in the BWE’s when we first started asking for something similar. Hopefully that has changed.

I’d like my city back… Nothing was like Lion’s Arch and it’s getting tiresome to try to figure out how to work around its loss.
WvW hasn’t been the same since. I can’t stress that enough, we arne’t getting the “PUGs” we did before… Not in the same numbers and at the times we need them.

That’d work.
