WvW and transfers
You block transfers to T1 servers and people will massively quit. Giving people options is the best thing and forces all the people that complain about competition on T1 servers to actually work together.
Why would people massively quit if not allowed to transfer to T1 servers?

We should always have a CHOICE – blocking that ability to have a CHOICE will have irreversible consequences for this game.

Dont mean to be rude but what the hell are you on about?

Read your own question you asked above…not to be rude or anything….=.=
You are saying that you would quit if you did not have the option to gangbang onto the winning server in any matchup I can see that. But what makes you think that so many other people have the same view? A lot of people take advantage of the lack of transfer control but I very much doubt they would quit if it was controlled.

The should just close transfers as soon as possible!

Just closing transfers will not help the situation, it has to be managed.

@OP. Why do you care if people transfer to a T1 server? T1 caters to a very specific audience. It is for those who want well coordinated, zerg warfare. If you are more into the smaller group roaming style, a lower tier is more appropriate.
It just depends what you enjoy.

That’s actually a very fair question, if Anet could not give a stuff about population balances and playability of their game then why on earth should I?

Why are the t1 servers singled out? I play on FA, and there’s a huge gap between our wvw #‘s and everything below t2. Based on what I’ve seen, we’re a lot closer to competing with the #‘s of JQ’s, BG’s and SoR’s than Mag or Ebay are to us.
Restricting transfers to t1 would not be a solution. It’s just a shift in power to t2 and whichever destination server absorbed 90% of the free transfers. I have my doubts there would be anything close to an even distribution of transfers.
My whole proposal is not about ‘balance’ as in this format that is beyond reach, its simply about making the game playable at every tier. In my opinion very shortly T1 will become completely unplayable due to lag and queues and then there will be a chaotic fallout of playerbase.

Errrrrrr queues! I cba sitting in a queue with my guild when theirs rallybots in wvw taking our spots, so we just move!

My mistake. I better understand your OP, and I have a couple questions in response.
If you “close” the current t1 servers, wouldn’t you expect a new set of t1 servers to emerge with the same problems you’ve identified?
Have you considered that Anet dictating (dismantling) server population could drive players away from not only wvw but the game itself?
I don’t mind queues; it’s part of the game.
The skill lag is a critical problem, I agree. It strips the fun out of, what should be, my favorite event in wvw — large scale, massive battles.
why not price the transfers based on the active population in wvw for each server? So for example transferring to T1 would cost significantly more than transferring to T4 or T5. Server populations only truly affects wvw in this game because pve can guest to any server. Having the lower prices might encourage players to spread out more.

LOL Blocking T1 transfers….
The bottom line as I said in other posts….is that as WvW pop continues to decline, competitive people that want to lead or be in large scale fights, work with organized groups and guilds working together are starting to look around on their server and realize that there aren’t as many people around as their used to be…so they start looking for servers that have more opportunity for fights etc. Without blowing out a server or getting blown out….T1 is becoming that place especially as people stop playing. Are their queues? Yep. Is there skill lag? Yep. but…are there people to fight? Yep! It’s going to continue this way. Like was said before..if you just wanna run around and roam, looking for small fights and camp flips, yaks etc. It doesn’t really matter what server you go to.

because T1 doesnt just match against T1.
How do you think tier 4 is going to feel playing T1 almost 50% of the time? Same with T8 vs T5.

That would be fine, the same mechanic is then applied to these servers

Forced transfers and merges tend to do that rather than restriction of movement

What maximum length of queue do you deem acceptable?

Yes and the more a server tier is stacked the worse it becomes…
