This may sound like a noob question, and it is. I am new to WvW and I die really, REALLY easily at the hands of enemy players. So my question is: Is there a difference between WvW armor and PvE armor when it comes to enemy players? Does WvW armor have something like a slight resistance to enemy players? I feel like my damage is fine and that I’m just extremely squishy. Thank you for your time reading this question.

There is an obvious difference.

In PvW all you need in terms of armor is whatever zerker gear provides. When newbs transfer in to WvW from PvE land, they have the hard lesson t learn that they need to rethink their strategy when engaging… well, engaging gameplay.

More importantly, you need to resalize you’re fighting highly intelligent, often near obsessive people focused on murdering other obsessed people in the digital arena. So you need to think about how you’re going to survive in that environment.

And look for Soldier stats. That’s a really good mix of damage and survivability.

The karma merchants at the temples in Orr have several PVT pieces, for karma and the armor merchants in Wvw sell it for a very low price + badges of honor as Invaders.

if your profession have high base healt use knight if not, use invaider. but always use equickments with thoughness stat. you can mix power/toughness/crit dmg with toughness/prec/power for a nearly berzerker dmg but lot more survivility.
if u are light armor prof you will have 3-3.1k armor. with medium 3.1-3.3. with heavy 3.3-3.7k

On my thief I run full valk on D/D SB.

My trinkets are ammy = Ascended Zerker, Rings = Power/Toughness/CritDMG [You can do Knights here] and Accessories = Valk

I have around 110% crit dmg with 17.5k-20k hp. Without the ascended rings you will have around 99-100% crit dmg.

Best gears for starting out in WvW is;

1. = PVT (Soliders/Invaders)
2. = Clerics/Apothecary (Power/Condition, Toughness, Healing Power)
3. = Celestial (a good bridge, covers all exits, but does not give you super stats in any way)
4. = Zerker/Rampager (Depending on profession, either one is ridiculously strong)

Most thieves run full valk gear. As you play WvW you get a feeling for what ballpark your stats should be in.

As a Thief this is probably 2500 armor, 15k hp, 100% crit damage and as much crit as you can afford. Play with the calculators and see what is required to get close to these stats and work from there. Also try to determine what traits you play with.

If you use hidden killer for example you could sacrifice some crit chance in favor or health. If you run Executioner you may want more crit and closer to 15k hp. If you run condi you’ll want tons of hp and armor.

Should I wait until I am lvl 80 to buy armor? or does that not really matter?

While you’re levelling up, just use Green gear appropriate for your level, upgrade it every 5-10 levels. Buying rares/exotics that you’ll out-grow in a few hours is a waste of gold, save it for something nice when you’re 80

Bear in mind that if you are not lvl 80, you will be at a massive disadvantage compared to other players, doubly so if you are new to the game mode.

Also, small group roamers and solo roamers are (often) very familiar with how their class/build plays, and how other classes/builds play against it, and will (often) tear apart non-80s or players new to the game, let alone both. So try not to be disheartened if you die a lot.

Alright, I’m just about to hit lvl 80 and I feel like i’ve got a good enough grasp on combat and how my class works well enough to go full Zerker gear. Could I get a full set at the Temples of Orr?

What class are you running? Most experienced players would not run full zerk in WvW. Usually a mix of zerk and PVT or something like that.
