Salutations folks, Just recently got my ranger to 80 and put my exotics on him, and now with the wvw ascended items available i was super excited to get some on my toon.

SO i take a look and every single piece is garbage. Without being able to use a gem or jewel in them you end up losing or breaking even on 2 of your stats and the third one gets 5 or 6 points.

why would the top gear in the game be this poor? you have to farm for a month to get one piece and its not any better then exotics with gems…this really needs to be looked at.

Perhaps special inserts into ascended pieces that give bonuses similar to runes on armor, that would add a new dynamic..but as of now Ascended items seem to be complete junk.

Am i missing something here? please fill me in…i mean..i have to be missing something …right?

Each ascended piece uses the combined stats of if it did have the main set of stats and a jewel. For example, a red ring of death’s stats would be about 11ish power, 5 precision, and 1% crit damage higher than its exotic counter part, the ruby ring&jewel. I think Anet recently fixed the stat layout of ascended pieces so it doesn’t look like a giant wall of text on the tooltip (Like with my Sygezy, Lumeria and Solaria ascended pieces were before with all stat gains)

In addition you can also use infusions to gain a slight boost to power or vitality as well. Personally I’m happy with exotics as the stat differences between ascended and exotic accessories isn’t really big enough to me to worry about, but I mainly wanted the celestial accessories because it was the only way I knew of to get +all stats like that, and it works nicely with my ele <3

I agree with this statement.. It would really help if half were in words and half were in #’s.. I think we could all get a better grasp on this if you could make that happen.. Thanks in advance..

Eh, he’s right. IF you are mixing gems and exotics in your trinkets, then ascended may not always be worth it. However, in terms of pure numbers, ascended items do provide more stats.

if your mixing it on your jewelry you may be able to get better #’s out of mixing your armor and runes then the jewelry at that point then, no?

If you go to the ascended vendor scroll to the very bottom there is gear with

precision
toughness
power

Precision is the main stat but thats not knights. Knight’s is represented about half way down at the vendor.

Well, the OP is sort of right about the stats that have been left out; namely, the Valkyrie stats. The Ascended Tier of gear almost feels like a nerf on the “Hidden Killer” Thief builds, forcing them to go Berserker with just a tiny bit of Vitality sprinkled in.

Unless someone has spotted full Valkyrie stats at one of the Ascended vendors…

but to be specific he was talking about the apothecary set I believe.. either way using ascended gear plus a solid mix of armor and runes you can achieve greater #’s than you can with regular exotics.. its about mixing and matching and finding the right sets with the priority attributes being the ones you want/need/like..

I haven’t spotted one it is like you said zerker with vitality sprinkled in. What would be good is something like infusions that give +20 to a stat and can be extracted and swapped out as you see fit for a bit more customization.

PVE doesn’t even offer infusions with those kind of + #’s to it.. its all miniscule which is why the gold of MF is better..

Ascended is bad because of the stat combinations they offer. Most WvW players want Soldier jewelry with zerker upgrade stats because of the crit damage efficiency, but ANet offers only crappy stat combinations.

That’s one thing that SWG did well.. gave you options for armor.. was great.. the stats here aren’t “bad” they just need more diversity to make it more of a sandbox type of game.. No game does that anymore.. seems like games now-a-days encourage you to use the cookie cutter builds or the FOTM’s..

Some of you are too worried about the individual trinket pieces. With the exception of heavy valkyrie users, 90% of existing trinket mixes can be recreated using Ascended trinkets. To go with an example that was mentioned above, instead of soldier trinkets with zerker jewels, run 4 pieces ascended soldier and 2 pieces ascended zerker (depending on how much zerker you want or however you wanna do it). In some cases though, you would have to replace multiple pieces at once to keep your min stats at the right level.

Not all equipment is equally efficient. An accessory upgrade slot gives you 1% crit for 5 stat points. A ring gives you 1% crit for 16 stat points. HUGE difference.

More people need ascended everything. Downing players becomes so much easier when they go pve in pvp.

Lets have a look at total stat boost from 2 ring Rings, Earings and Amulet

Exotic Knights + Exquiste Emerald Jewel
power + 315
precision + 365
toughness + 411

Asended Knights (no infusion)
power + 341 = 7.62% higher
precision + 341 = 6.58% lower
toughness + 514 = 20.04% higher

All depends on how you look at it, over all its a minor gain, factor in armor and weapon stats add in food buffs and you can just stay with exotics and be fine. I would not upgrade from exotic with the same stats not really worth it, however ascended does have stat combos you can not get from exotics or rares that is what gives the real value.

I dont like major gear stat boosts glad Anet did not overdue Ascended gears stats I still think the boost and options are a bit to good vs exotic options. Hate gear grinding MMOs.

After much deliberation on how to spend my laurels, this is the conclusion I’ve come to as well – don’t spend them, hold out, save them for something else later.

Ascended is FUBAR for a number of reasons, not least the kluge-y way they flattened the exquisite jewel stats into the trinket and have two sets of redundant stats there (never seen anything so WTF’ish in a game).

So instead just gonna wait as long as I can, until absolutely forced into some upgrade. But my full exotic Cleric’s guardian and Sentinel/Soldier/Knight mix warrior are still perfectly viable for everything in WvW.
