WvW by night

I once proposed (in the german forum) to to weight points by amount of players in WvW. Maybe you like it more than the german community, so here it is:
Each of the 4 map has a max of 166vs166vs166 ~ 500 for a total of 2000 player.
If all maps of all server are full there are 2000 in WvW and points are assigned as they are now.
If it is nighttime and a side brings say 100 people (and the other sides bring none)
to capture all points on all maps still only 100/2000 people are on map and points
are multiplied by 1/20.
If they go to bed and no one else comes, multiplier drops down to 0 again.
If you come in the morning, you still find your map in an ugly color, but at least the night-capper did not got 5 hours of full score while everyone was sleeping.
In resume: the more people are fighting for the points the more worth has their possession.
I don’t know if this topic has been argued before, so I launch it.
I’m playing wvw since 3 matches and a half, and I noticed this situation: the most influent moment of the game is the night.
You could have on your server a lot of good players affictioned to wvw and the greatest commanders, but if it doesn’t have a strong night partecipation… it’s screwed!!I think that this is a problem. The servers with the stronger presence of night guilds or (more probably) of “other continent” guilds will always win against a regular servers, in which late night players are just a really small percentage and, most important thing, casual. The “better night covered” servers will always will always collect an insane amount of points.
So, why wvw doesn’t stop by night?
It could stop from 2 a.m. GTM to 9 a.m. GTM.I know what kind of answers i will read: “real wars never pause at night”, “life is unfair: it’s part of the game”, “I play only by night, and I wanna play wvw”, “this is part of the strategy, a good server should organize bla bla” and going on…
Stopping wvw by night would help to bring sense to points. It’s not necessary to explain it, it’s clear enough.
And if someone log in at 4 a.m., he/she can do something else, GW2 offers a lot of enterteinments. And if you log in only at late night, you are in the wrong server, choose another one from another continent list!!
Surely there’re also some less drastic solutions:
Keep open wvw but stop points
Keep open wvw but make invulnerable keeps and towers
keep open wvw but stop sieges building

last tier
RoS: Night presence 5-10 ppl on a good day.
FoW: 30+ ppl
Although I agree that Night presence is very important but it isn’t the only thing out there.
FoW has practically given up during the day and will bring a lot of people on at night.

Actually morning and day team give biggest advantage, because we don’t need to sleep buy we need to work.

I don’t agree. If you’re a heavy WvW guild and you recruit players from all time zones, I call that good strategy. If you are on a server who can’t compete with this, then it looks like you can either attempt to recruit or move down in rank. The servers that are in the top tiers are there because they have groups that are very dedicated to WvW and worked hard to get them up there, whether through strategy, numbers or both.

I like the idea of awarding points according to the players who are online (and thus, actual Player vs Player), I and many other have also suggested that in the past, Anet showed many times that they don’t care, points won in PvP are worth the same as those won in PvD
The idea of halting WvW or point atribution is just ridiculous, no modern organization should and would do something as dictatorial as that
Weighting points based on the number of players active in WvW isn’t a terrible idea, but any discussions that relate to halting point-gain or even closing WvW at night are just silly.

Official response from ArenaNet:

Greetings everyone!
We’ve received lots of feedback regarding night capping. Many want to know how Arenanet views this. Our answer is that WvW was developed as a never ending continuous battle.
We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.
This is not saying that we are against any adjustment to scoring, or against developing another mechanic to improve the capping system. This is simply saying that we will not be changing WvW based on some players’ idea of off time hours. Please use this thread as the main discussion for this topic.
The nice thing on my weighting proposal is that I see it perfectly in line with this official response from ArenaNet and still it is able to reduce the (currently very decisive) effect of night-capping.
In fact it solves a problem the current game design has with respext to ArenaNet statement.
Currently the impact of the night-time player on the outcome of the mach is MUCH higher than the impact of the day-time player. This imbalance would be reduced.

So, why wvw doesn’t stop by night?
…. Because this directly effects Oceanic players who weren’t given their own server to begin with.

I have no idea if this would actually work in practice, but I see no reason why it couldn’t be implemented and given a test run (coding issues aside). Would be really interesting to see how it would play out.

I don’t agree with closing the W3 servers between certain times and to be fair your ‘less drastic’ option of being unable to cap or getting no points for capping between certain times defeats the purpose of w3 entirely.
It is easy to suggest to ‘other continent’ players that if they want to pvp out of the servers normal hours to go to a different server but a lot of people play on other continents servers because that’s where their friends are. In the case of Oceanic players, they have a server choice of bad or worse in regards to latency as they do not have their own servers.
For a while now w3 has been about numbers and more importantly, coverage. The server that has the most wins. W3 has been losing players for various reasons, for Anet to turn around and say ‘w3 servers are now closed from XX to XX, if that is your playtime go do something else’ would do it more harm than good.
There are suggestions to merge NA and EU servers too, but I think this would cause more problems as well. EU players would object to being forced to play on NA servers (it would be NA servers because Anet is based in the US)
Any remedy they try and implement (if at all) is likely to be met with objections by a portion of the global player base.
In my mind, twinning NA and EU servers together so their points are combined at the end of the week without actually making players physically move to a different server might work (although I can see it causing friction between servers if one doesn’t think the other is pulling their weight)
The suggestion to reduce the points gained for PvDoor might cause the least upset, out of hours players would still be able to accomplish objectives/ contribute to their servers points and still get a smile when they look at the map and see it all their servers colour, but it wouldn’t give so much of a lead.
Alternatively, they could just make the outmanned buff actually worth a crap. Increased karma & exp count for little if you can’t cap anything.

Hello everyone.
Since this subforum has already a bigger thread, here, in which the issue of nightcapping is being discussed thoroughly, we ask you to keep on your remarks there. In this way, it is easier for the dev team to access to your opinions about this particular matter.
Thanks!!!
