WvW commanding tips
The old school document that teaches commanding is here:

The more combat-oriented guide is here:

With the stability change, and expansion soon to be, the meta is shifting a bit. Your group comp will depend on what kind of numbers you’re trying to fight. For a long time WvW has been about Melee, and the stab change is making it very hard to hammer train like we used to.
However, I’ve grown fond of: 6 guardians, 3 warriors, 4 eles, 6 necros, 1 thief, and 2 mesmers for outnumbered fighting. Have your guards running Hammer/Staff to have access to all the lines/rings of warding that you can get.
Hey there. I’m starting to learn how to command in WvW and I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers on how to command zerg fights and what I need to be capping (is it really whatever I want to try and cap or is there a system?)
Also, what is a good party composition for when I make groups for WvW zergs?
Thanks for any pointers!
Just tag up and do it. Trial and error will eventually give you your best answer. Every good commander has a different style, so go out there and find your own. Start by doing the PPT stuff and then slowly move towards fighting in order to get a hang of positions and directions.

Hahaha I am sorry but that just made me laugh. You need people. Lots and lots of people. If you outman the enemy 2 to 1… you probably need more people.
In terms of composition, they will bring whatever. Upscales in particular, which will probably end up killing the zerg.
Anyway, just tag up and go nuts commanding. All you need is a positive attitude. People will leave when you fail to cap keeps or get wiped, but keep it fun and relaxed and people will start to recognize you. Always keep in mind that a zerg wants points more than you do. Dont try to guide it around like a flopping eel against its wishes.
Awesome. Thanks for all the tips guys!
Following successful commanders is always a good way to learn:
-Be on comms
-Listen to their calls, veils, portals, bombs, waters, when to engage/fake, banners
-Watch where they place siege
-Look at their tactics and strategy
-Pay attention to how the enemy reacts and counters
-Know the terrain, dont always use the same route, know alternate paths
-Pay attention to different ways to attack objectives
-Pay attention to surroundings and zerg tail
-Stay aware of supply counts
-Have proper gear/setup
-Always leave scouts, know when to sweep, and where hiding places are for enemy mesmers
-Understand how to watch the map
-Understand proper group composition, 5 guardian parties will make you look bad.
