WvW deing in your server?
I’m from NSP (as my signature says), I wouldn’t say WvW is dying on my server. While it has never been the healthiest, our WvW population in comparison to our PvE population is quite low, I’d say we’re still doing ok. We have some guilds that are very dedicated to WvW and they are still going strong and able to field 40+ groups of just guild members. I think we did see a drop off after the season, but that is to be expected I think. I’m not worried about my server, I think we’re doing ok.

YB has suffered. Doesn’t help we have faced some form of Maguuma/SOS/SBI every week with SBI every stinking week since season 1……
Our huge zergs are now doing world boss events….
A legit question. After season 1 and the winter holiday’s Ehmry Bay seem to has lost many players to wvw as they are burned out of it. Just wondering if any of your servers are also experiencing this.
Its also to prove a point to my kittened friend (you know who you are)!!
Been burned out myself a couple of times, still coming back but i do notice that im less interested in wvw as a whole.I remember that i deeply cared about it,and our ppt and trying to do everything to win,and commanded alot back then aswell ( 19h comm runs just to make sure to win the week ).But now ,i cant be kitten d to tag up,i just roam around do my own thing look for a few skirmishes and that’s that.WvW lost its beauty for me,can’t seem to take it serious anymore.I do know there are lots of others in the same boat, just waiting for something interesting to happen from anets side…
I don’t think it is dying. After Season 1 it seemed to look healthy, as people started to get more balanced match ups. But, because we complained about the random match ups, we have gotten this stale matchups. MAG/SBI/YB or SOS/SBI/YB every week since season 1 has ended. It does burn people out.
Plus, people had finals for college, winter break, holiday stuff to do, and then school starting back up. For people not in school, they had holiday stuff to do, and maybe even some nice vacation time.
With all that, it is no wonder why wvw seems like it has died. But, the reality is that a lot of people just had to take a break (myself included, because school got really hectic). I still followed SBI on MOS every day, to see how we are doing, and it was painful to not log in and help (and even more painful to watch my server fight for the lead last week, and get it over SoS on wednesday, just to do it’s normal friday tanking fest).
I dont see WvW dying on my server. But it gets veeery old. Same old content since 500+ days. Ruins update was a complete fail (deserted most of the time). I’m a 100% WvW player since headstart but my playtime gets lower and lower. I will probably take a brake until EOTM releases or ESO arrives, whatever comes first.
I don’t care about seasons. Achievements are carrots on sticks. This game needs new real WvW content. And I dont mean a new bunch of WXP abilities. But new maps…

Eredon Terrace never dies. If anything, we got stronger now after season 1. We definitely have more pop coming on today than we did last month.
I think people were inspired by our heroic efforts against insurmountable odds.
You have to have a thick skin and look on the game with a long term perspective to avoid the negative impact that come with the cyclic downturn of population. Our guild focuses on the improvement of the guild and the team. We work to develop coordination within the servers WvW population. We work on training our new players. WvW population seems to me like a reptiles skin always growing dieing and shedding.

Yep WvW’s pop is cyclic, because most people are cyclic in their gaming. Holidays, vacation, work, school, friends, girl/boyfriend, etc. All that will change how much time you can sit behind your computer can game. After that you could want to do bit of FPS, Racing game, try the new game you just bought or simply sit in front of the tv for a while. After that even if you pick up GW2, maybe you finally want to make that legendary and do more PvE, see the World Boss train while doing your daily so you join it, have some friend/guildmates asking you in 1 or more dungeons run, guild missions, etc. In the end, the so many variable that the number of people in WvW can change drastically day to day but weeks to weeks too.
Yeah, alas. YB had considerably lost players. The trend may in the long run even kill WvW. Without enemies, no WvW.
I think Anet underestimates the dynamics that can happen here.
I think that everybody have less players. Nowadays we often have outmanned in prime time.

I would love a WXP ability worth a 120 ranks to reduce condi duration by 25% with each stack giving 5%. Right now condi damage is way out of proportion.
And allow laurels to buy ascended armour and weapons.
Edge of the Mists is coming out this month, that’s a solution for the Season; when the season is (thankfully) over with.
I think that many servers are just now falling in line with the population shifts from the pre-season vs the numbers they had during the season and the inevitable drop off afterwards.
It also seems like many servers are in untenable positions and are either teetering on the edge of collapse or may soon be. A lot of servers are locked into tiers where they cannot compete with the other servers.
SoR is no longer able to compete with BG and JQ (JQ having a hard enough time with BG as it is), Maguuma got dragged down into T3 heck; and EhmBay and BP are never going to get rid of Dragonbrand (and vice-versa).
They might have to resort to manually manipulating the RNG if there are too many dead fish in the tiers.
SoR had lost a good amount of players after season 1, but I do not think people are burned out, we lost some wvw focused guilds and thats why we have fewer people playing.

You lost your WvW core and that usually results in an exodus where your diehards will pick the server back up and you will have to rebuild. Luckily you have some true diehards like Choo and GSCH that will always hold the line. Is TW staying, because if they are you shouldn’t drop much.

Me too! Ferguson’s Crossing is active and thriving in WvW.
I heard Choo is also thinking about leaving, maybe to JQ…If that happens it would be best for SoR to drop tiers and rebuild.
wvw is boring now. i found tpvp was a nice change of pace for me.

Yes we still have some great wvw focused guilds and they keep us pushing and having good fights, I am not sure about TW just heard they had some internal issues some weeks ago, not sure if true but I have not seem then in good numers lately, maybe I am just not playing on the same boderland or time that they are, even on TS.

While leagues had many positives (debatable) and many negatives (debatable but more personally believable from me), one they did seem to do is:
Either they made WvW beyond/outside of leagues seem not as important (IE: because it is not leagues) or they totally burnt people out of WvW (that aren’t 100% WvW to begin with).
I heard Choo is also thinking about leaving, maybe to JQ…If that happens it would be best for SoR to drop tiers and rebuild.
There are lot of rumors now on SoR… everyweek people says one of the big guilds are leaving… so I do not have any clue if this is true or not, as far as I know they still here.

The wvw system has some fundamental flaws. It rewards people who flock to the winning server. Off hour players have more influence over the out-come of a match than prime time players. There is no incentive for the two weaker servers to gang up on the stronger server. In fact, the opposite happens, the two stronger servers annihilate the weaker one to the point many players just do not play.
WvW is baseball when it needs to be football.
I noticed a sharp decrease in activity on the NA server I was on. I transferred to an EU server which apparently had massive queues during leagues and it now struggles to get one map queued fully.
In the lower tiers, wvw activity dropped off sharply after leagues. Burn out and whatnot. It has been slowly picking up and I heard from friends it is better this week.

I hope some of the guys transferring consider TC (not that I want Tier 2 to become tougher for SoS.) since they will be the ones to take the 3rd spot and they are not Tier 1 material in their current state. The last thing we need is two super-servers at the top and a revolving door of sacrificial lambs going in and out of T1.
this brings me to my next point.. why would you want to move servers? dont you have any pride that you belong somewhere?
I think it is pretty pointless in doing so. It takes away the sense of ownership!
Nope, we have more these days for whatever reason on SBI. We do like to make “mass exodus” jokes for some reason. It has to do with SBI being called a terribad bandwagon server. Which isn’t true at all. We are most definitely not a terribad bandwagon server. We may only karma train EB all day, we may have no concept of fighting without siege, we might not be able to count enemy numbers or even allied numbers(and count the enemy NPCs like river drakes as red, thus 30:5 odds when it’s really a 10:10 fight), and we may even be a terribad bandwagon server. But I repeat, we are most definitely not communists.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Well said.
I’m thinking that’s what the guilds and players that are considering transferring servers are going to unintentionally create in the very near term future:
One Hegemonic mega-server, a super server, and the multiple other severs near the top will be ‘lambs to the slaughter’ because they are not going to match the hegemonic server’s coverage and population which will likely be too overpowering for all the others to surpass in order to compete with the hegemon and the super server.
Guild Wars 2 needs a Public Beta Environment

I’m sure your guilds will get bored of the karma training at some point. When that happens, things will certainly be changing. Too bad Fannwong succumbed to his role playing fetish and moved to the dark side.
I heard Choo is also thinking about leaving, maybe to JQ…If that happens it would be best for SoR to drop tiers and rebuild.
That would be the most kittened move ever. If any of the SoR guilds are looking to move, they should be moving to a Tier 2 server that can rise up and replace SoR in T1. NA would be pretty kitten if there were only two T1 servers.
I’m more getting over WvW due to the roamers, can’t seem to find any solo roamers that actually want to fight.
tPvP has been fun but no build diversity bores me.
….. And Elementalist.
Limited variance in matchups will kill WvW.

Yep, about 7 weeks in a row outnumber on every turn facing SBI 7 weeks in a row, they won I think every match up, yet we still face them? How is this a good matchup system? why is YB still facing this obviously much larger WvW player base server every week. Most are just sick of it and logging off until things change.
When EQ Next comes out and if it is at good as it sounds like it could be, GW2 will probably take a hit to the player base and WvW will empty out even more.

You all beat us twice. And we dont win much either. Mag or SoS won a lot of the matches.
Having said that, yes we need a break from each other desperately. i was so mad when SoS got the high roll this week.

If this does happen WvW will have come full circle. This is exactly how it was at the beginning.
Titan Alliance on HoD was the hegemonic server. Ascension Alliance on ET the super server. And a revolving door of others. Both HoD and ET imploded because it was terrible.
However, it might not be as bad now. We are used to uneven matchups. We have lost our idealism that WvW could be a good three way battle all the time.
Having BG and JQ at the top and other servers rotate in and out might not be bad. TC, FA, Mag, SoS, SBI could all handle it. But only IF you don’t have to face them for more than 1 week out of 6 or so. And Anet could ensure this by MAKING THE MATCHUPS MANUALLY.

Iron left them after season, Fear and Retribution moved to FA, XPK to JQ, Choo maybe moving to kaineng? TW rumored to be moving, although they’re the self appointed kings of SoR and looking to tank the entire server instead to drop tiers. I’m not surprised this is finally happening, how long did people think the “for the fights” mantra was going to hold them up? They didn’t get to the top 3 by just fighting, people did both before and you can play for points and still get a lot of good fights, BG and JQ still do that.
There were players still playing for points to help keep the server competitive, imagine the strain they have been under to do so since most of the server gave up week 2 of the season. They are the only other server that had the population to compete in T1, they mishandled their pugs, they abandoned their point getters, hell they banned people on TS for no good reason, all in the name of GvG and trying to fight open field with guild numbers.
TC or FA are going to get to T1 eventually, hope they recruit enough off hours players to help them compete there.

WvW been dead a long time on our server (DR) Yet its still 1800 gems to transfer here thanks anet.
Yak’s had outmanned buffs on reset night this week. First time I’ve EVER seen that happen.
We do fine (I’d say better than fine) whenever numbers are closer to even, but lately it’s just blob vs 15 most of the time.
One solution to the transfer problem is to make it fee based instead of gem based. Charging cash for a transfer will make it less attractive to do frequently.
BP feels burned out… probably not as bad as EBay though. Many of our top tier players have started cycling out days or weeks so we still have them in the game just not as often. This week a lot of commanders just took time off.
They should open up free transfers for a few weeks so players could shuffle the deck a bit. I think it would help.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
We (Far Shiverpeaks) have been slightly rising in ranks, however on a personal level (and some friends too) feel since season has ended i don’t have much to play for, I enjoyed checking the league table and other servers match ups and knowing who we facing the following week etc, and facing servers of roughly similar rankings, currently rank 12 facing a rank 5 and rank 8 in our current match up, still 2nd place atm though.

Well on GoM things have been way worse. In fact, thanks to the leagues things have become incredibly better. Even if we had our ups and downs since then, it’s not been as worse as before the leagues began.
And since it ended, things got even better. Which surprised me, so I’m happy.
YB needs to get off their kitten arrow carts and just open field for a few weeks on order to drop. That will give EhmBay and BP a break and give DB a challenge. That right there would solve the two most miserable tiers in NA.
In the lower tiers, wvw activity dropped off sharply after leagues. Burn out and whatnot. It has been slowly picking up and I heard from friends it is better this week.
