You really think EotM is the issue here? As you stated it was an answer to over populated servers to do something while they waited for a que, but now you are on edge due to the popularity and that most will chose to play in EotM than WvW. Maybe Anet should redo the maps in WvW to be like EotM? or make guild only commander tags that only your guild can see, shrink the zerg size to 25 only any more will bring a debuff to the zerg that makes them show up on the map to other worlds, or gives them a 25 perm Vulnerability stack till they die. All you I can tell you is wish in one hand and kitten in the other, which will fill up first?

2. Level an alt
3. Waiting for a queue to pop

From the time ive spent in there, it would seem the people prefer to avoid fights since this would ruin their kama train. Anyone trying to defend a tower gets abused on the forums for “ruining” their fun.

Do you really believe that anet will change WvW maps drastically after the changes they have made to the borderlands in their eyes not that long ago.
The zerging will never change in wvw, its part and parcel. I came to that conclusion long ago, they tried by adding sentries, and supply traps and now siege traps, but the zergs will prosper.

The reality is that people go to EotM for one of 3 reasons:
1. Karma train
2. Level an alt
3. Waiting for a queue to popFew people go to EotM for fights. There is no skill required in killing a bunch of uplevels/karma trainers.
4) champ train /loot
They do need to nerf eotm loot OR increase real wvw loot to put it in the same ball park… WXP could be nerfed too in eotm as well IMHO

Maybe in the future WvW will be replaced by ETOM. The game ends in 3h, so its the perfect size for a night’s play. It’s actually a lot of fun with a lot of great clashes and some interesting situations with siege and bridges etc. WvW after a while becomes a big drag. Without major changes every 6 months or so, a lot of people just get burnt out on WvW. Something more casual could possibly take over this stage in the game’s cycle. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Despite everything else that EotM is, one can’t argue that it’s a great way to ensure the map is always populated. I know that server pride is a touchy subject around here, but I’m almost 100% certain that in time, as the game ages, we’ll see colour vs colour get introduced to the main WvW maps as well.

That’s a completely unrelated issue though. The reason why nobody bothers fighting in EotM is because the rewards for k-training is so much better. The rewards for defending needs to be beefed up substantially, to the point where holding a Tower or Keep gives better rewards than capping a paper one. (Capping a fully upgraded structure would give a massive reward though, to ensure that players don’t just “give up” on too hard targets.)
Those are PvE players so even if you kill EotM, it won’t affect WvW.
Most of the serious WvW’ers I’ve played with rarely if ever go to EotM. The only reason to go there is to get sick WXP if your server is dominating so much that they don’t need you in the real WvW maps.
EOTM is just a way to get those PvE farm ppls closer to WvW experience. Due to smal Matchperiods and good reward for each player due to mainly running cyrcles there is no need to defend if you dont wanna be annoying others. I’d say due to this playstyle rewards aree in a god spot. They’re not as good as dungeons, but for braindead walking around its ok and you can get some lucky punches.
The real problem is WvW. In case you’re trying to play point-effective you can barely break even but more times you need another money source. (eg guild cata ~1.5 gold golem 0.4 – 2.5g, upgrading…) You may could get some out of badges, but if you only WvW you cant get enough – EOTM got way better balance here (one tower will give each player at least 2rams form badges).
Of course in the eary days WvW was perfect for farming due to all ppl just run EBG cyrcles, but with bit competetive play and defending its all gone.
Most of the people in EoTM, if they weren’t in EoTM, would not be in WvW at all. It isn’t affecting your WvW population. It is 95% PvEers leveling alts and/or grinding mats/money/WXP. Then of course the 5% of people that are waiting for BL/EB queue.
If they reduce the rewards, all we would end up with is a ghost town EoTM in addition to the lack of people in WvW you claimed to have seen. That’s just worse overall. Hopefully they don’t do that.
EoTM is one of the few activities I can do for hours on end without burning out.

What is the purpose of Eotm? Its supposed to function as an overflow, mess about, lounge room area, while waiting to ENTER WvW.
I was in Eotm while qued for EB and busted on an episode while following the zerg around. I could not believe how much i was being rewarded for killling time holy hanna.
MORE badges then WvW, more Kama then WvW, more WXP then WvW, more levels gained, more everything.
No wonder there are sooo many people in here.
And then there are alot of days where i will be roaming the borderlands with a friend and not see more then 2-3 server allies, for hours on end.
What the hell Anet Eotm contributes close to nothing for the WvW’ers, just takes people away from it.
Oh yer iam on Jade Quarry, thats right a TIER 1 server, just in case someone was bout to say move to a more populated server.
Right now everyone brings their low levels here to level up, you can level up 1-80 in couple of days.
Reduce the rewards massively and lets get some life back into WvW.

Ask WvW rewards to be put on par with them (it’s long overdue, should have been that from the start) but not nerfs in EotM.
On top of that the day you kill EotM (killing the rewards do that) you’ll get those “nice” upscalled and PvE heroes/rally bots back on your servers taking spots from seasoned veterans WvWers and bringing back queues and you’ll come back crying how awful it is.
Leave EotM alone, most people there are either :
- people leveling their toons (it’s roughly 80% upscalled when you aren’t green running with the SFR EotM Heroes on EU)
- People farming Badges/WxP while still getting other income
- People doing something while they can’t in WvW because there is no one there or they are getting hammered through the 666 Hell Levels for the 50+th week in a row)
If you aren’t happy with EotM, don’t play it. But be realistic the VAST majority of EotM players won’t go to WvW is you kill rewards and leveling there, they’ll go to the next best leveling/farming spot, and/or slowly stop playing because they won’t force themselves through yet another grind of leveling/farming again.

Problem with WvW has been from the start and will never be fixed and that is lag in large battles. Commanders can lead a large team back and forth, causing lag spikes and running over people before they can actually react. What is actually on the screen is behind what is actually occurring, top that off with massive skill lag as well. I’ve been on both sides of this and it isn’t really fun either way.
The smaller scale battles and skirmishes is where WvW shines, and might be why many go to EotM .
I mostly stopped playing WvW due to some seriously toxic commanders, screaming on TS/ vent at people, demanding others get on TS/Vent all while at the same time kicking others off TS/Vent, belittling people on map chat, untagging and demanding the zerg follow them untagged, then crying at the players when they don’t follow,
Commanders who now only run tagless in WvW or only with there guilds, or who sit on TS/Vent in there own little channel with there buddies,
And you think EOTM is killing WvW, you so far wrong its not even funny, EotM is a nice break, where you get 1 or maybe 2 people tag up, run around and cap ( sure K train ) but with ZERO drama,
Also ive seen some T1 guilds running around EotM recently as a guild group, no doubt tagless,

You should also be very careful about what you wish for, as if Anet decide to nerf karma etc by 80% in eotm and leave it alone in WvW, where do you think all them ppl are going to go K train, you will be back on here after such an update crying that there is an 100 person Q because the PvE’rs are K Training in your BL, if you don’t play EOTM don’t worry about it, I play WvW and EotM and I can tell you its far from EotM doing the damage to WvW.

Bring 6 guards, 6 warrs, 2 necros, and a ele into EotM and you can wipe a map blob of uplevels fairly easy in EotM. Granted, it does get exciting when you run into a bunch of 80’s or even another guild group but rarely does that happen and often you see all sides still conforming to the “let’s just karma train mentality”.
Many players are leaving WvW because they are just getting tired of the game and moving onto something else. This is natural for all MMO’s but with the combination of mega-server and EotM it’s getting harder for us to get people interested in WvW. I personally feel like if EotM was removed from the game more people would start to transition back to WvW. Of course, there are PVE players who are only in EotM to farm champ bags and level their toons and wouldn’t touch WvW regardless.

Actually it IS a training ground for WvW already, and in a good way, since it allow people to start getting basic understanding of quite some few WvW mechanisms like :
- supplies and supplies management
- siege
- being hit by siege
- what positionning can/can’t do
- choice of routes
- basic zerg fights in unorganized ways
It can’t be more than that (and won’t ever unless you totally change it, hence ruining it) because :
- it’s too short matchups, hence not allowing upgrades and such (because either it’s pointless because recapped too fast, or it’s too powerful and you have a map that is “turtling all around” for 3h wich is bad
- the whole map is a nightmare of pathing, vericality, choke points, places to fell of and so on, making it the worst possible and toxic environnement for WvW (there is a reason all the self called “WvW L33ts” ran away from it when they could easily farm and chestbeat by bullying upscaled, it’s a cheesy map WORSE than Skyhammer… ie : a place to goof around, but that is toxic as Hell and totally unbalanced for “serious” play)
- the whole map makes EB Keeps and corner look “uber mega supra well balanced” in comparison, and it’s not even taking the ridiculous buffs and tools in each corner into account
- most npcs and such don’t work like the ones in WvW (it would probably be a good idea to upgrade Tower and Keep Lords in WvW and camp Npcs in WvW to EotM Levels but that’s another question altogether).
EotM is basically the “free for all, not serious, goof around and have fun” place where randoms come to play football/Soccer/whatever without minding, while WvW is more akin to organized leagues and teams and so on (not at a professional level mind you).
It’s what was needed, and is really nice.
Kill the rewards, you kill EotM, kitten off all the WvWers that use it for alts leveling and grinding (you know, those same people actually bringing the profs/builds you need/want and can’t have, and filling in everytime there is a need for something else than Guardians/Warriors…), making mainly WvW players not able to get income either (or making it harder on those that don’t want to run dungeons and kitten) and so on.
Stop focusing that much on EotM, if you don’t like it, ignore it, it’s not hurting anything at all.
Ps : Oh and most zergs don’t actively avoid each others and are fighting when they run into each other, with more and more comander using terrain as an advantage to bait ennemies, fight with stacking advantages and such, it’s just basically Blue and Red avoiding Green because together they are less than 60% of Green numbers (ie : free farm), unless SFR and friends aren’t Green that week.

Perhaps? I’ve found that actively pursuing fights in EoTM results in a lot of toxic hostility.

So… the devs make something popular that you don’t like; your solution is to nerf it into unpopularity. This is not a well considered approach.
IMO EotM fills a niche that other MMOs satisfy with open world PvE on a PvP server. It’s mostly PvE content but there’s always the risk/excitement of running into enemy players and fighting a bit along the way. Obviously not the original design intent but it works. While at times it can be repetitive, it’s far less so than leveling via hearts/map exploration for the 7th or 8th time.

Seems like the main issue is that your playstyle involves falling in behind any random large group of people to cap stuff and that’s not really possible when pug commanders get upset or when players decide to WvWvW with guildmates only. Tag up often or join a WvWvW guild.

If there was no eotm, I doubt many of those people would go to the real wvw. They just want an easy champ train / place to level. That said, eotm is great – if I need karma for some reason….

You don’t need any more than rank 1390 tho… And even then, you’ll have some masteries you’ll rarely use.

Don’t know why they haven’t adjusted some of the regular wvw rewards to eotm standards. Think a dev suggested a cdi or something a while back about asking what rewards should be moved over from eotm to wvw, but of course nothing happened after that.
Then again seeing as the rewards have turned eotm into a karma train 24/7 now, don’t exactly want that happening to wvw (it happens but not every day), so they’ll have to be careful of what rewards they bring over. Just don’t like the idea of someone running loops and getting better wvw rewards (more wxp, ranks/chests, badges, etc) than me who actually wvw’s 99% of the time.

You don’t need any more than rank 1390 tho… And even then, you’ll have some masteries you’ll rarely use.
Only thing that bugs me about that is rank up chests have a chance to give you ascended equipment. So these guys are running loops on a map getting greatly rewarded for barely even fighting each other, meanwhile the real wvw players are busting their butts in the wvw maps and getting chicken scraps for rewards.
Sounds like the old champ trains running in queensdale or frost gorge, except champ bags never dropped ascended.
Just another one of those things that’s fallen through the cracks for wvw.

Why leave EotM alone? It is a WvW map after all. If people want to Karma train there, they need to understand that they will be fodder for the people who do WvW. People who do go there, they NEED to understand it really is a training ground for WvW, not just a place to gain Karma and level.
The blobs just avoiding fighting each other is a little pathetic and sad.
Actually it IS a training ground for WvW already, and in a good way, since it allow people to start getting basic understanding of quite some few WvW mechanisms like :
- supplies and supplies management
- siege
- being hit by siege
- what positionning can/can’t do
- choice of routes
- basic zerg fights in unorganized waysIt can’t be more than that (and won’t ever unless you totally change it, hence ruining it) because :
- it’s too short matchups, hence not allowing upgrades and such (because either it’s pointless because recapped too fast, or it’s too powerful and you have a map that is “turtling all around” for 3h wich is bad
- the whole map is a nightmare of pathing, vericality, choke points, places to fell of and so on, making it the worst possible and toxic environnement for WvW (there is a reason all the self called “WvW L33ts” ran away from it when they could easily farm and chestbeat by bullying upscaled, it’s a cheesy map WORSE than Skyhammer… ie : a place to goof around, but that is toxic as Hell and totally unbalanced for “serious” play)
- the whole map makes EB Keeps and corner look “uber mega supra well balanced” in comparison, and it’s not even taking the ridiculous buffs and tools in each corner into account
- most npcs and such don’t work like the ones in WvW (it would probably be a good idea to upgrade Tower and Keep Lords in WvW and camp Npcs in WvW to EotM Levels but that’s another question altogether).EotM is basically the “free for all, not serious, goof around and have fun” place where randoms come to play football/Soccer/whatever without minding, while WvW is more akin to organized leagues and teams and so on (not at a professional level mind you).
It’s what was needed, and is really nice.
Kill the rewards, you kill EotM, kitten off all the WvWers that use it for alts leveling and grinding (you know, those same people actually bringing the profs/builds you need/want and can’t have, and filling in everytime there is a need for something else than Guardians/Warriors…), making mainly WvW players not able to get income either (or making it harder on those that don’t want to run dungeons and kitten) and so on.Stop focusing that much on EotM, if you don’t like it, ignore it, it’s not hurting anything at all.
There is actually quite often blob fights in EotM. You would know if you actually played it a bit…..

These guys become perfect little zerglings by the time they reach 80. Excellent, bring that zergling xp into wvw.
Agreed they need to “freshen” up wvw, but will they?
OK so give them the same experience for capturing towers, but give ZERO WXP and 80% less badges. Badges should only be gotten via player kills, earn it, not get 15 from killing a champion while pressing 1.
If they were to drastically reduce rewards in Eotm, well the pvers could go back to pve lands. Isnt that what anet want? And the ones that want to can come to wvw.

Why? Yesterday all but 1 map was outnumbered, in the middle of the wvw season week, completely dead. Second most populated server on NA.

The only thing that frustrates me about EotM is that it gives (a lot) more WXP than actually WvW does, so we end up with PvE farmers with higher ranks than dedicated WvW players who don’t zerg often.
Then ask for the WvW rewards to be brought up on par with EotM ones instead of shooting everyone in the foot by killing the EotM ones ????
The whole “ouiiiiiiiiiiiinnnn they get more shinies than me, remove their ability to get shiniies” is pathetic and silly/counterproductive.
There is a lot of good things in EotM that should have been ported to WvW long ago, the rewards from objectives, the sentries (the consumable detecting ennemy players), and the npc levels/difficulty for lords/vets amongst others.
Ask and militate to get those in WvW instead of asking to kill EotM because you are jealous.

Never said the game was dead, i said the game will continue to fade.
Which it is, unfortunate but inevitable. The game sold 3.5mil in the first 4 months and all up dunno maybe 5mil.
Alot of players who bought the game have drifted off and more and more are doing so. Faster then i would like. The longer the changes which need to be made aren’t made, people will get frustrated and leave.
Add onto the fact that WvW season achievements are completable via EotM, onto the already good karma, xp and loot, and badge rewards, and you have basically no reason to play normal WvW.
Most of the people on my friends list flock to EotM, particularly when TC is doing well enough to be green.
Why? Because it’s more rewarding than actual WvW. Bring WvW rewards up to par with EotM, and I can guarantee you, you’ll see more people showing up.
I’m on TC in a tier 1 matchup currently. I don’t even remember the last time I saw a queue, outside of reset night, NA prime (TC’s most populous time of day) – WvW participation is undeniably low. Heck, I saw longer queues when TC was a tier 2 server.

And now they moan because ppl dont play it …..

JQ WvW has just been dull for the past 3-4 weeks if not more. We struggle to find commanders and when somebody does take over, it becomes a popularity contest and if you aren’t one of the main 4-5 commanders, nobody follows you. This means instead of a decent zerg on every map, we have 1 big blob that takes care of all of them. This entire week its been 0 queue (often outmanned) on all but one of the maps in which it will have 50+.
My point is that its not EOTM causing this, its simply a server issue when it comes to our particular WvW players. The higher player count of people in EOTM is because its the best way right now to level without going through the (painful) process of map exploration. Not only is the leveling the best, its also a decent way to mindlessly make gold by ranking up so quickly with WXP compared to regular WvW. That just means a lot of the champion train farmers and such are in EOTM and whether you decide if that’s killing WvW or not is up to you but I don’t think EOTM is the reason to blame here. The lack of WvW changes or additions and personal server problems are.

stale “tactics” and often one sided or 3 hour stagnated sieges did that.
EoTM is more fun and often more varied because the points don’t matter. and when the points don’t matter people are jsut there to farm or screw around.
when people just farm or screw around they have more fun and arent stressed about numbers and timers.
when people just screw around you end up with smaller teams doing more things across the map that, ultimately don’t matter but give a sense of accomplishment when they cap 5 or 7 things while the zergs mash faces over 1 thing for 50 minutes.
Make WvW more like EoTM and you might get players in there again, drop the Srs Bsns GTFO Noob attitude adopted by the “hard core” and even I might be interested in spending gems to get to a server with a better WvW population.. i might even play WvW again.

Defending is not fun but it is required to win. Waiting for someone to attack is boring but with siege disablers it is now required to delay a zerg from taking upgraded tower. Sieging t3 objectives is not fun it take to long to get anything done and that was before siege disabler. Now it only take one person to stop a zerg long enough to get a defense force. The server that wins a match tend to have a coverage that other servers do not have. Pvd eventually gets boring but that is how most server win.
A-net has done little to improve the fun aspect of wvw: encouraging fights and large battle. Instead they have done the opposite and improve the boring aspects of wvw. Open field fighting is the least rewarding thing to do and does not help your server win a match-up. Open field fighting is the most fun thing you can do in wvw. Havoc fights, GvG fights, 3-way SM fights, so on these type of battle do not help you win.
Winning is suppose to be fun. In wvw winning is about having more coverage than the other server, picking on the weaker server to take easy objectives and having a few player ignore all rewards selflessly defending a point. Are you happy when you server win a week?

just a offtopic note; gw2 is slow paced if compared to arch, also no aoe limit but i have found a few wvw pride soldiers on that game that still make their dedication to gw2 wvw, myself still log and go to wvw and join a group for a few minutes.
GW2 and Arch are two complete different concepts the target population is not the same.

Archeage is for PvE players who like to PvP only when their PvE grinding give gear advantage. These nerds build some farms in so called PvP game.

assassinating people in EotM is fun. They never expect it and it makes me feel dirty.
Heh, I got suckered into that by two Badlands Engineers last night. BL had basically no presence on the map at all, but these two guys were basically ganking stragglers or trying to pick off the tail of zergs as they passed by.
I should have known better than to let myself get pulled so far away from the zerg, but there were 4 of us against of two of them, and I was pretty desperate to get my last 2 WvW kills for the Daily. Ah well.
I did get my remaining kills when we got the jump on a FR zerg at Airport in the end, so no big deal.
