WvW gameplay in different tiers?
Sounds like you’d prefer T2 or T3. I’d recommend Tarnished Coast, Fort Aspenwood or Dragonbrand for you.
T1-3 are more zergy and T7-8 are mostly small groups. T4-6 have varying degrees of mixed play. Right now it looks like the servers that will definitely end up in that middle ground after the server shuffling will be Devona’s Rest, Borlis Pass, Anvil Rock, and Northern Shiverpeaks.
I don’t understand why people hate zergs. If you really want small team why not play spvp instead?
I would recommend SBI. They are a small wvw server now, but they have people that had been to T1 and knows what they are doing. It would be a great place to learn the basics.

WvW is only one aspect of the entire game. If you prefer that as your choice of playtime, then you will have multiple servers to choose from. What I think is important to consider is what is gameplay like outside of WvW …. Nothing more of a let down than deciding you want to take a break from WvW and find map after map a virtual ghost town.
Middle tiers are most likely the most entertaining, you can join an occasional zerg when you feel like it but small group action is also plentiful. Also most of the best players are in mid tiers nowadays.
Top tier is good if you want to play WvW at offpeak hours, late at night and early morning.

WvW is the only thing you can’t just guest onto a different server’s map for though (assuming it actually works on monday like it’s supposed to), so the other stuff is kind of irrelevant in picking your home server.

Oh I dunno. I’d rather have a full server with people I recognize …. A permanent home that offers everything, rather than have to guest or server hop looking for a place to put down roots.

You are right that upper tiers are more about zergs. You can still find some small group action, but not as much as on a lower tier.
The other thing to remember… the higher the tier, the longer the queue times. Players in tier 1 aren’t necessarily better than those in tier 5 (in other words there are good players no matter where you go). Higher tiers just have more around the clock coverage.
