WvW have really use for macros
Well that’s why we have TS/vent/mumble/whatever. Texting is meh with slow reaction time.
That said, you can actually use macro programs to simulate this already if you want . Be sure to have you channel preset, such as the map channel. Your macro would then go like this – you push a button, “enter”→your text entered letter by letter→“enter”. Unfortunetly you have to be standing still and not doing anything else. Ingame functionality would work alot better and it would be incredibly easy for Anet to just add keybindings to chat strings in the options menu (that’s like a mornings worth of work)
And incidently, discussing macros is also against forum rules so expect a thread closure, bleh.
I’d weclome preset option to say for example “gg” or “that was not very nice”, if you disaprove of your opponents action^^ Or a “wanna duel me?” button. The point of this would be to make cross server communication a bit easier, without the possibility to insult the other one or reveal “intel” (what can be done anyway, but this way it wouldn’t be done by accident). But it’s just a gimmic idea, not really neccessery.
Chronomancy works, I am proof of it. Now stop asking me questions. Time must be preserved!

The reason that this kind of feature isn’t in the game is not because it’s hard to make, it’s because it leads to too much spam. If you make your own macro to replicate it, you’ll notice you’ll bump up again chat suppression really quickly.

It’s not more spammable than copy/pasting something. Team chat has no suppression. I don’t get why canned text isn’t a commander function.
I tried using text macro’s in guild wars 2 and it did not work (using the steelseries APEX with the steelseries engine)
It worked in a notepad but not in game, the start and send keys worked fine but the text didn’t appear.

It’s one button press instead of three, meaning you can spam it 3 times as much.

But that is another issue, those are 3rd party programs. And 3rd party programs should not be mandatory unless you are playing in a hardcore server/guild.

the ability to spam profusely exists already and is rarely if ever abused other than emotes sometimes which are easily disabled.
and if it’s a problem then have team chat 1 second between posts minimum
I just want the /rude emote from gw1 back, so I can flip ppl off
