WvW improvements and constant complaints
I am really getting tired of ANET nurfing good stuff because X amount of players complain.
Every time they make a change to WvW or anyone tries to have a normal discussion about game mode balance, the population qq starts.
Couple flaws in this at the start. Anet probably doesn’t change anything solely based on forum complaints. It may alert them to an issue but it is very likely they run the numbers and see if a change would be effective. This is why we see all those “need more data” replies from the dev.
The second issue is that forum users are a minority so complaints here are likely a minor input to upcoming changes.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Hmm, well from last week where we had a very balanced matchup, the scores stayed extremely close even with one of the servers holding all 3 buffs, so i’d be very curious to know why they reduced it to 1 point per stomp no matter how may buffs, after having so many ppl complain that its no good.
(i get the stats change and it makes sense), but i dont get why they reduced it because people complained about it being bad as it gave lots of points to the enemy. Stomps or not, you will still lose the score game with a big population differential.
And I’m not that convinced the forums not having much impact on the game. Leagues was a very popular topic as a suggestion to anet, this bloodlust nerf, future area for the so called GvGs, and many other (including stuff outside of WvW). They probably listen to their community more than you may actually think.

I do not recall a big push for leagues and I question why anyone would think it is a good idea given the balance issues in the game. It is one thing to entirely ignore the balance issues by sticking your head in the sand, but making a league while ignoring the issues is like tossing salt on a cut.
Like i said, those are just examples of ideas or changes that come from suggestions / outspoken ppl on the forums.
I remember reading about the league stuff, though i dont remember the exact context, i think it was in talk of finding better ways of adding variety to the stagnant matchups without that RNG crap. (i think) It was a pretty well repeated idea with not much negative feedback against it.
Either way, point is, they seem to “somewhat” listen, and even then, they find a way to make things worse that what players had in mind. (not that it is easy to get things right)
But i’m kinda disappointed when I finally thought they were starting to get on the right track.
And if you read the whole thing, I think this whole population thing could’ve been avoided based on what they already had with the previous installment. Now its all about, how will they fix it.
In my opinion, there are just too many WvW servers out there with too small of a population to properly support the game mode. (i should say population variation). Even if it came down to having as little as 6-9 total servers (again, for wvw only) but with decent population / coverage where anyone has the same chance at winning (making it about skill & coordination) it would make things so much more interesting.
I think last week’s JQ/BG/SoR matchup, gives a very good idea of the potential of WvW when servers have similar coverage & WvW population.

Well heres the thing I really dont understand take Ar for example always High Population, always, IIRC the number is reflective of accounts on the serve maybe incorrect been a year since I read something about that,
However AR is like one of the lower tier servers. Why? Why doe no one WVW there is there something fundamentally flawed on there Maps?
And AR isn’t the only server that’s listed as Very High population that’s in the bottomm 6 of WvW,
So transferring to AR isn’t discounted though they are a bottom 9 or servers.
And if they are going to try and get people to transfer to the lower servers 20 plus dollars of gems ain’t going to happen, when you can transfer to JQ BG or SoR for the same cost and possibly be the recipient of rewards after 7 weeks
Just a thought is all
Blood lust is a good example, the stomps were great and brought a lot of decisions and strategy along with constant action to the borderlands. Yes, it has the potential to unbalance even harder an already unbalanced match due to population differential…so what? Game mode balance is not the same as population balancing.
There weren’t many complaints about the stomping aspect so anet made that change on their own.

Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

This could’ve been very simply avoided by making players pledge allegiance to a realm/faction/kingdom (w/e you want to call it) for WvW and have population control that way while leaving, for PvE, the good old mechanic from GW1 that gave players a very simple drop down allowing them to choose the overflow they wanted to go to for the map they were on.
^^ This. I really like the idea of having 24 servers that people can choose for WvW. Each of the 24 have the same population cap and people can move around as they see fit. The best part of this is that numbers will no longer be the deciding item when it comes to matchups. It will be all about getting a server to coordinate.
WvW server does not have to equal PvE server.

I said 6-9, but i wouldn’t care how many, as long as all of them can provide decent small & large scale fights no matter what realms you face.
And yeah, the big issue, even when it comes to balancing stuff like runes of perplexity that has FINALLY come to their attention, WvW should not be tied this strongly to PvE. It’s cool to be able to obtain gear in either mode to play the other, but the builds for each are not the same… (again, multi-build from GW1, so much good stuff that went to the trash can with GW2)
Nerfing good stuff, buffing bad stuff is how it’s supposed to work. Constantly mixes up the metagame, moves people to new builds.
from my perspective OP has #tier1problems
