WvW is broken, now simply a farm mode
Couldn’t agree with you more. It’s gotten pretty pathetic now. Everything on the map is paper. We basically just trade everything back and forth for points. There’s no point in defending as there’s no reward whatsoever for it. It’s more profitable for the winning and losing side to just flip everything. Anet has taken the best part of the game and turned it into a stupid farming mode. They also refuse to listen to player suggestions even though there are numerous people on here with good ideas that they totally ignore. They’re basically like “hey we heard you want more balanced matchups, but here’s some flame ram mastery instead! Aren’t you grateful?” “You guys like GvG in a game called Guild Wars, here’s some bloodlust buffs to make things as uneven as possible!”
Tier 1 Sor/BG/JQ has its competitive weeks (with different emphasis for each server). Sometimes though one or more servers aren’t into it, and that’s ok.
No matter what, Friday, or Fursday Fun night, is SoR’s karaoke karma train, and the community is stronger for it. Much drinking and singing is involved.
We always hold our garrison though as a point of pride, and it also retains the games competitive edge. Interesting that all you need is the one garrison to do that.

It was quite freeing to stop caring about PPT and upgrading stuff for kind of some vague team. Now I run around with guildmates picking fights and having a great time. I ’m not loving the wxp/karma trains, whether they be friend or foe.
Defending is an uphill struggle to nowhere. Once I realized how the game worked, it sucked all the fun out of that. And they keep making seige stronger while leaving structures the same lol. But hey, E-sports!
Make towers and keeps give PPT according to how long they are in ur possession. Upgraded fortifications and fortitfications for a long time in enemy hand would also give significantly more rewards when capturing it.
The game simply give no insentives to a world to keep any structure.

Maybe it’s Anet’s goal to get every WvW player onto one of the top 3 populated servers. Certain changes do seem to suggest that.
And it’s one of the few redeeming qualities of tier 1, (when it is the real top 3), actually having each team with respectable and comparable round the clock coverage.
Unfortunately, a lot of players do not like PVP where even the smaller fights are still zerg vs zerg. And the normal ones are unsightly messes of mass blobs so large that you are reduced to seeing nameplates and a blinding cacophony of special effects on your screen threatening a seizure.
They have to find a way to better balance the scoreboard and pursuit of competitive combat for everyone else though.
Sadly, even for you in tier 1, the relative competitiveness of that tier is about to be shattered once leagues start, as 6 out of 7 weeks you are going to be thrown into laugher matchups that are no challenge. The only challenge will be how long you can sustain spawn camping the other teams, or mustering the will to keep entering WvW, when the outcome and interest of the engagements will be decided and pointless after the first day.
Numbers are up.
For every person like you and I who would love a fair tier with fair fights, there are five people who won’t WvW unless they can karma train. Don’t expect ANet to caater to us we are the minority, the farma llamas are the majority.

And yet you keep playing. Why? You know they have something in place to keep track of active players. Only way your going to get their attention is just quit playing. Quit buying gems. Just….quit.
This is why I’m happy to be in the middle tier. Were people actually do upgrade stuff, they do defend stuff, and u still have zerg vs zerg, guild vs guild, roaming and everything.
May I ask, what tier are u guys in? As it looks like u are all in either T1 or T2 as u got so many players to do the karma train to flipp everything, or in the bottom tier were it’s just simply unbalanced and not possible to defend stuff.

It would be enough to make it so towers/keep give you more points the longer you keep them. Let’s say 10 points the first hour, 15 the second, 20 the third, etc (just an example of course). And maybe give everyone logged in and actively playing wvw a reward every so much time based on how many things your server had for so long. Let’s say after one hour we have 2 towers, 1 keep and the castle and you get xxx Wxp, some karma, a chest or something. (which might be a little more complicated to work out good). so that people would actually want to keep an objective for long
Too bad that’s only one of the too many problems this game has. Even though it’s over for me here, mostly because of bl buff and most of all because of ascended i refuse to farm, I still like to check the forums in memory of the fun this game could have been.
And also, to sadistically watch anet burying their own game. (they never cared of what I, as a customer, as a pvper wanted/said so I don’t really think I should feel bad for them)

To fix that, we could forget server wars and just fill each area as people show up, randomly (obviously favoring your guild/friends).

A reward for defending and something more for the guild who claims would be appreciated.
Doors with more HP and no more pvd. Quite ridiculous with the current amount of golems….
And really a lot ridiculous when a zerg stacks for damaging the door. With masteries only sieges should work on towers/keep.
I suggest to devs to do something fast, very fast, becouse start to be very boring.
(And also maybe less Scarlet pveinvasion pop up during the wvw could be a nice start..)

This is what happens when you add a level system to a MMO game mode. People will only care about leveling up, even if the benefits of this makes no real difference. Everyone simply does it because the higher number you have, the more awesome you obviously are. Meanwhile, the actual gameplay is hurting because of this. But ArenaNet won’t really care about this either, because they are just excited about the fact that more players are playing WvW. Never mind the reason why…
Leagues are simply just another system that’s meant to keep players invested in WvW, over a longer timespan. It will do nothing for the actual gameplay.

I just love trashing all these “generals”, “legends” and “bronze whatevers” in the bloodlust area. Many times I can go 1v2 and come on top without much trouble.

There was also a game with brilliant “WvW”, only you fought people within your server instead of changing matchups. I hear it’s still running, too.

at this point population is so imbalanced that whatever they do is just gonna favor bigger server. wvw is basically dead.

Thankfully, there is now the Bloodlust area which is all about PvP and none about reward train.
Wxp + ascended and the upcoming leagues have “downed” the WvW, anet need just another bad idea to stomp it.
Why ? because now most people are happy when they loose a keep or a tower, they can pvd it and get Wxp and some ascended maths from the lord ! how cool is it ? how hard ? you can call it farming, and it cannot be controlled.
what do most people want ?
- Having fun with you mates ? no thx, im here to farm equipe/rank
- Improve theyr skills ? no, they don’t need it, they run with the blob.
- Wxp ? sure ! we all want them, applied fortitued anyone ?
- Ascended ? another yes, I now have a purpose finally ! GW2 was empty without ascended, who plays just for fun ?
- Leagues ? a nice way to promote more unbalanced population

Certain sources have indicated that WvW was always supposed to be a casual karma train. And the fact that it was originally a great game, with even more potential to be outstanding, was a complete accident on the part of the developers.

I personally like sieging up towers and keeps and defending them. It is much more realistic than just flipping paper castles back and forth. I don’t play WvW so much for the individual reward but the satisfaction of beating the other servers.
