WvW is dead - Roamers do not exist
Guess we are all dead fighting other dead people in WvW. GvG just got a new approach..Ghosts vs Ghosts.
Madness Rises [Rise] – Banners Hold.
Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Dragonbrand: just did a run for 30 minutes and not a single enemy. Seems pretty dead to me.
This is roaming for fights. Not everyone wants to magnet to the zerg…
Maybe because DB vastly outnumbers IOJ and NSP so they don’t even want to log in?
Everyone I have ever met in EotM is a free bag. I’ve run into plenty of thieves that run around trying to gank uplevels and smacked them around like the little kittenes they are while I was leveling characters. EotM is a complete joke, please leave that crap out of the WvW forum.
The joke is WvW. Everyone you met in there is either terribad and running back to the nearest tower or chasing you all around the map with their skill blob that outnumber you 10 to 1. This is not PvP.
WvW used to a very nice place but it was because of the diversity of people in it. This was WvW 1 year ago :
- Karma trainer : Your usual skill less blob where you go to relax, get loot or attack them to get easy bags and troll
- Map Completionist : Would rather be somewhere else but at least they can follow the karma train and get some loots!
- Defender/Scout : The best feeling is really when you can crush a 50 man karma train with well placed siege all by yourself (this is what made me play WvW so much)
- Skill group : Most effective way to destroy your opponents. Always a blast to take on group bigger than you.
- Roamer : Your average troll/ganker that happen to flip a camp from time to time
WvW today :
- Karma trainer : Long gone to EoTM which make WvW more empty
- Map completionist : Still stuck in WvW but it’s even worse for them without the karma train
- Defender/scout : Frankly got nothing to do. The karma train made it lively for them. There was an attack every 15 minutes. Now you sit for hours on your AC doing nothing.
- Skill group : Chasing roamer and map completionist all around the map because they got no one else to fight…
- Roamer : Being chased by skill groups or watching people sit on arrow cart in tower? Let’s go flip all the camps on this map and hope to get some fair fights.
The reason ebay bl rarely gets solo roamers is because you all have such a reputation for siege humping. At best I’ll get a couple fights before y’all start building sup ac’s and bali’s in upgraded camps or avoiding me all together to back cap.
It is just more fun to hit the other bl when faced up against you. Luckily most of your decent roamers are usually there too so there are still plenty of fights.
I see plenty of roamers always and I’m one of them. Sure many are bad but plenty are excellent and would give any PvP player a very good match.
The problem I see with many so called “good” PVPers in WvW setting is that they come to WvW with PvP duel securiturbo cheesy builds and and are surprised at how ez it can sometimes be for them to defeat players who have more balanced builds for WvW needs. Their build are putrid and near useless for WvW purpose but they will wreck you if you duel them as you are.
The supreme irony was being called dishonorable by a Medi guard and a d/p Thief because I fled to a camp when they teamed on my staff ele. And after I miraculously won that fight thanks to NPC help and quite a bit of arrogance on their part, the Guard PMed me, while blocking me from replying no less, that I was super bad as an ele and I should not think that I’m good at all because I’m bad… so was saying the guy eating grass and calling me “dishonorable” after seeking 2 vs 1 fight against a WvW roaming staff ele… and each of the times they defeated me before their supreme humiliation they were emoting on my corpse all they could.
Waiit what? Roaming against SoR or SF is like the worst nightmare of any roamers… Everytime I was matched with these server there were absolutely ZERO roamers from both of them.
Any other lower tier server however can give you some fights…
Ah, the problem is probably that I go into 7v7 fights between SoR and SF and start killing people. The other day I did that for the first time on my necro…I think I killed everyone who didn’t run into the tower.
Fun stuff if you can do it right

I do love when someone takes a straight up PvP build into WvW for roaming. I ran into a decap turret engi a week or 2 ago. The hardest part of that fight was not falling over laughing while he tried bunkering down to fight me near a tower he didn’t own.
I think every server has more bad players running around on them than good. I caught a group of what I’m assuming was one of Ebay’s PvE guilds (since I didn’t recognize the tag) in WvW last week. They tried to gank me 3v1 and I wiped the floor with them. I don’t automatically assume all ebay players are that bad because of this and that isn’t what I was saying in the previous post.
What I was saying is the majority of the good EBay roamers I run into tend to be in the other 2 bl’s looking for fights. The people that stay behind in their bl run or wp as soon as they see me and hop on siege, and that just isn’t fun to fight against.

This is one of the reasons WvW is enjoyed by so few people & it is caused by the fact that what server your on in WvW uses the “home server”.
What they need to do is implement some sort of system that tiers groups based on how many people are in said group & has a max size a group can reach before no new people can join.
It could be made voluntary what group you join (the first time) with leaving to join new groups costing gold/gems.
This would ensure that each side has relatively equal numbers & further separating it by time zones (NA, EU & far eastern) would ensure that each tier has roughly similar prime times.
I heard a suggestion months ago about how this could be done.
Tier 1 would have membership numbers around 1000 to 1100
Tier two would have membership between 801 to 999
Tier 3 would have membership between 701 to 800
Tier 4 would have membership between 600 to 700.
Everyone who doesn’t chose a “group” would just be randomly tossed into a WvW for randoms.
As for lore, the guy who originally posted it suggested Arena.net could say that powerful Artifacts were found in the mists & that different groups felt they should be used in different ways thus causing people to split into different “Alliances” to fight over them.
The other reason besides server imbalances is that many people find WvW boring because it encourages blob vs blob mentality which almost always has the blob with bigger numbers winning.
If arena.net created a map that encouraged if not mandated that people split into different groups to tackle multiple objectives (or a single objective from different angles) then more people would likely play.
Edge of the Mists can do this if played the way Arena.net intended. (Due in part how easy it is to knock large groups to their death & for small groups to slaughter tightly packed large groups via siege). Sadly its played as a WvW zerg karma train because of the rewards it gives vs regular WvW.
The last Reason allot of people don’t WvW is because if you loot at the way you get rewards in WvW vs how you get them in PvP or PvE they tend to be allot less & very RNG based.

Agree that t3 is dead?
Well I don’t conceptually see an issue with roaming not being encouraged. If you consider a large-scale war, single people would only be useful as spies / scouts / infiltrators for equipment-sabotage. But not as actual combatants.
It’s nothing but the EotM that turned it into this. Before it, and the WXP nonsense, you gained experience through actually fighting in the borderlands, and not just mouthbreathing through a karmatrain run. EotM breeds Silver-rank morons who can’t handle any encounters solo, so they run.

They exist but you cant see them because they are mostly thieves.
The day befor yesterday: 2 gua+1 warr team, 1 ranger, 1 ele, a 3 men thieves team, 3 of 2 men thieves team and some (4-5) solo thief and 1 mesmer (or 2, hard to say how many are they), 1 engi and 1 necro
I think the balance is a real problem there. The roaming thing is a very enjoyable thing but if you are not a thief you start with weights on your legs.

wvw is alive and kicking where I am, but im also on Tarnished Coast sooo
As a member of a server that recently hit T4, I noticed this roaming phenomenon. Tier5 and below, competent roamers will fight 1v1. (Roamers that are bad at fighting will avoid them like described in this thread or only engage with hard disengages available)
In Tier4 and Tier3 roamers seem to hit a “CALL PARTY” if fighting 1v1 and if a 5v5 fight starts to look troublesome they hit the “CALL ZERG” button. Since we’ve hit t4 if a roamer actually fights I generally know there’s a 10+ group around. It troubles me since it seems people won’t leave towers/keeps unless they have at least an entire party to hold their hands.
When we were T5 and below, roamers can /bow people and have a fight that people won’t interrupt with good results. Even commanders would generally leave these alone (except for the occasional horrible dueler the zerg poops only /bow’ing roamers for diplomatic immunity scouting – I zerg them in the face)
I have yet to actually get a single non-appointment /bow duel in. Solo roaming is very alive under tier4.

Agreed. WvW, of all sorts, is hopping on TC. Never have any problems finding fights of all sorts on that server.
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

Well whatever the reason, it’s dead and sucks for everyone in t3
If you want fights why not just join a zerg, heres the reason most people avoid random solo fights..usually a player will do various things on a map. Me for example I zerg, havok, scout etc, whatever can help out. I, like most am not setup with duel gear/build which means its pointless for me to seek random 1v1 fights with reg roamers who are, If I am running on a map its for a real reason not to troll players or look for fights. If thats what you want, join a zerg, if you want small fights/duels go pvp.
And I wouldnt say wvw is dead whatsoever, many would call it stale because of the lack of any meaningful or significant gamechanging updates.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Yeah I still don’t quite get the purpose of EotM. It’s a very well-done map, it just seems to lack an ulterior purpose. If the other WvW maps had as many events and elements as this one, that’d be awesome, but that is lacking.
T1 player wants to run around solo and have solo fights, claims nobody is there but somehow is being hit by siege.
Conclusion: in T1 siege is operated by the ghosts of all the people that used to WvW.
Further conclusion: me roaming as (primarily) a staff ele for years now gives me no insight that roaming is alive and well no matter what time I do it on my non-T1 server.
Final conclusion: whiners will, when not having exactly what they want delivered to them, whine.
I believe that’s the truth, though I wouldn’t dare say that there aren’t a lot of people going away from the game and wvw because Arenanet is not improving anything. On T9 I get a lot of roaming fights personally. Also about duels and fair fights, in my experience they only happen on the lower tiers aswell.

Mate… open your eyes. Your server placement means nothing. Your PPT score means nothing. All that matters, in this game, is that you have fun. If you have fun by fighting people or dueling, I see no problem in that because WvW is designed as a PvP mode, where SPvP is designed as a point cap mode. The best fights you can get are on WvW, not SPvP, where everyone runs a bunker spec.

Many of us hate zerging. Many of us don’t want to follow a blob of people around and bang on a keep door over and over. Some of us find zerging boring. Honestly, zerging makes me a worse player. Further, I don’t want to attack NPCs. Yaks all night long or camps of NPCs. Boring. I play this game to fight other people. When I get excited about playing I don’t say “Gee, I can’t WAIT to take north camp tonight! It’s going to be an awesome 15 seconds!” I usaully say, “I really hope the game isn’t dead tonight. I want fights”

I can’t stand this statement. I don’t want a red team/blue team match where I am required to run around playing capture the flag. I hate that crap. If I wanted to do this I would go buy an xbox. WvWvW, RvR or w/e you want to call it has been unique in the fact I run around with my friends, not play under layers of rules and not containted by tiny cramped maps.
The game is designed perfectly for roaming, it’s just not possible anymore because it’s dead.
(edited by ionix.9054)
We still have a decent amount of small group roamers on Gandara, but we see hardly any roaming from the servers we come up against, so it’s almost exclusively a zerg busting activity now.
It’s Pretty easy to see why roaming is dead, from what it use to be.
1. Tendency to gravitate towards zergs, servers for easier wins and rewards.
2. Lack of content added to WvW.
3. The definition of roaming changing from solo,duo,5mans to 10-15 man.
Timelord to Lillium Honeybuns, IoJ

Back when long daily queues were common, EoTM was concieved of as an idea to give players a way to play wvw while waiting in line to get into real wvw. Its basically a place to screw around in.

Server placement and PPT mean nothing? Maybe your the one who needs to open their eyes. Servers live and die by ppt and tier placement. I prefer fights to, I just dont go looking for duels, cuz I dont go into wvw setup for it, its not fun for me, and does nothing to help my server. Neglect for ppt means your server will lose matchups, drop tiers, lose guilds/players and die, and can guarantee the further down you go the less fights you get, having played through every tier.

You seem to be contradicting yourself quite a bit there, idk what server your on, but here there arent any pvd zergs, we cap when we can, its mainly for fights zergs. Roaming or at least the job that can be fullfilled by a roamer can be more quickly done as I said by people who multitask, hop from a zerg to quickly cap a camp and then run rejoin zerg for example. It just makes more sense to do it this way. Roaming is not necessarily dead its just changed, not done the way it used to be. And seriously “required” ??? If you dont like wvw, newsflash DONT DO IT….lol people…

Move away from the Skritt League.
Roamers exist, because I am a roamer, and routinely run into other roamers. On a T5 server. The metas for roaming may have changed, but we’re still out there.
I’ve been T1 for a year and a half now.
Roaming has been dead awhile, the cheese condi builds among other things killed it.
All of my roaming guilds/friends have quit the game.
tPvP got stale after several months as well.

Interesting. So you transferred between all 3 servers in this short of a time period?
You believe that is enough time to have developed an informed opinion the the entire community of each server, and the game play with the changes included?
They elected you to speak for them too?
I doubt you have even given it enough time to develop an informed opinion as I see it. So perhaps you should stick to speaking for yourself, and stop claiming ot speak for not just one, but all three communities.

Oh look yet another WvW is dead thread.
Obviously the people I see in WvW must be figments of my imagination, the queues I saw after reset on Friday were also figments of my imagination, in fact I must be a figment of my own imagination.
Paradox time -if you are reading this you don’t exist because I don’t exist because I WvW and see others in WvW but the OP says that WvW is dead therefore we weren’t there and don’t exist.
The alternative is that the OP is incorrect and WvW is not dead – which do you think is more likely?
Compared to pre WvW tourny SoR/BG/JQ days, WvW is dead. There used to be queues 24/7, and WvW was thriving. Hell you could find sieging, roaming, GvGs, and random parades in one map. This is a wasteland. The WvW community has been trying to warn Anet for years now, yet all these suggestions fell on deaf ears.
I mean kitten , does anyone remember when WvW was so populated people were complaining that there was too many players? When people actually cared about PPT? When commanders would stay up until 3AM to hold their gains, or have drunk karoake night while fighting blobs?

Honestly, zerging makes me a worse player.
Truer words were never spoken. Not that it doesn’t take skill to have complementary builds and construct a solid group… but the worst player in the world with green items and no traits could join that same zerg for hours every day and get through the same fights and objective flips as everybody else… and not necessarily learn a thing or get any better.
Which is why people don’t necessarily want to “just join a zerg”, to the person who said to do that. You know what’s fun? Pushing your ability.
Ever been zergbusting? The idea is to cut down organized groups when you have fewer people. You do more with less.
Same thing for flipping objectives with fewer people. Same thing for just being capable of dealing with whatever you happen across. It’s pushing what you personally can do, and that’s a need that isn’t met in PvP.
