WvW is draining

WvW will slow down, it’s inevitable.
But the people who enjoy that type of fighting will continue to do it even despite ‘long term goals’. ‘Casual’ and ‘hardcore’ alike.
The length of the matches will have no effect on these players because the score matters less to them than it does to the ‘fair-weather’ type players who joins occasionally.
The real question I see is whether those types of players will group up on a number of servers which will have competitive matches while the remainder servers dwindles to occasional actual WvW combat. Or whether they’ll spread out to have more actual effect in their server. Kinda the big fish/small pond vs. large pond/small fish dilemma.
Where the length of the matches comes into effect is to prevent the snowballing issue with somebody taking off due to nightcapping and then the players who look to the score which then think it’s pointless to go to WvW.
Snowballing is something I enjoy, that’s how tactics and siege and ‘winning’ works. It gives clear cut defined winners. That’s just me though, probably not a popular opinion.

I think the drop system needs an overhaul and have a thread on this if you click my name and look for it.
I bought the game for spvp but I like wvw more than the structured because I find myself in wvw more often than not running near someone or a group of allies that are going to fight another group of people. While I don’t care for zergy games, atleast I feel more part of a team than running solo in spvp to cap a point. Sure theres more pve things in it and there’s building objectives and doors to kill, but atleast I have better chances of finding a team vs team battle on a map twenty times larger, somehow.
Not trying to hijack your thread but I’ll save you time on looking since you might not look for it if you are interested, I kind of feel the same way, and almost feel locked on playing my only level 80 in wvw not only because the new players get nearly nothing for scaled event rewards (silver wise and somewhat drop wise), but because they just aren’t nearly as effective at all even while level scaled. Giving lower levels the same silver for capturing a tower is not game breaking in any way, it would let them have the ability to buy siege.
1. Human skull collectible for killing players instead of 30 different kinds of collectibles, this collectible would only be in wvw, a rarer collectible drop with something like a femur that costs a little more. I currently get 5 different types of needles, and all kinds of stuff.
2. Blueprints are uncommon drops from players, (less common than badges) but the golem would be like an exotic from players. This would give everyone on the server a little more siege to use even people who really can’t afford it at that time will have a siege to use every now and then and won’t be afraid to drop it because it was expensive for them to buy at that time.
3. If someone does the most damage before the person goes into downed state, they did the most work, they should get a loot bag when he is finished, if someone else does the finisher they should also be entitled to a loot bag (the current way it seems to work), if one person does both he only gets one loot bag.
4. If I’m level 80 I don’t see why I am still getting tiny loot bags, I got one rare from wvw with thousands of kills, and it was only a level 68 rare, etc.

no downside to losing, nothing to gain as far as character or guild progression goes.
of course its dwindling.
What nofo said. It might pull more people back into WvW if there was more to gain there, or if combat was faster. People are mainly put off by empty maps and long runs if they die.
Ppl are mainly put off by this being an excesive money sink. I mean what do you hace to gain, Nothing really if you die, you actually loose money with all the repairs, siege etc etc, why would i hop to WvW if im not gonna get anything from it, its just overall stupid.
I always feel the problem here is down to a choice the individual can make. If they want to have more fun in WvW they have to decide wether to take wvw seriously or tolerate their current performance.
You simply can not enter a wvw environment and do whatever you want and hope to profit from it. If you are not getting the kills, enjoyment, gold, karma, realm points, that you want out of WvW you need to do something about how you play to get that fun and profit out of it.
I love wvw and play in a wvw focused guild, our guild makes a ton of gold from wvw each night, and we get a ton of kills and badges with minor repair bills. the reason for this is we acknowledge that we can’t have 25 members coming online with whatever gear builds and weapons they want and just running around aimlessly. We have WvW minimum requirement builds that have to be in place to synergise together. we have rules of engagement for the nights we play and we roll with set tactics that we discuss at length during our off time (at work etc) on our forums. Now this is a lot of effort and I think that GW2 does offer a lot to players that do not want to go this whole way, but to those in this post that want to enjoy WvW more and are not at present getting anything out of it, acknowledge that you will have to adopt to play a more focused system with your friends/guild in WvW to get the most out of it.
TL;DR The personal reward for this should be your enjoyment if you are not enjoying it then look at how you got about WvW and make some changes.

Thats not the problem Kyus. WvW for our server is fun for me, just too time consuming. Were VERY organized, and really I think that’s the only reason were in the bracket were in.
