WvW is headed in the wrong direction.
Because PK only contributes as a partial conduit to achieving those points, ranks, wins… If you can achieve those goals through PvE rather than PvP (PvDoor) it’s well within the design.

I’m going to assume you did not read anything about how the current mechanics encourage and support (giving an exponential advantage to) large numbers. The point was that bad players are given too many safety nets, and those are increased exponentially, not just increased, by zerging.

The only thing I see wrong with WvW is that there is no Oceanic servers. This would have helped with nightcapping to some degree.
The problems are as follows:
1, The maps are too small
2, There is not enough space between objectives
3, The maps are too small.
This wont change because all the trolls during beta moaned about having to run everywhere.
If the map size was doubled (but same number of objectives) so that there was actually more than 10 seconds between keeps and towers then maybe we could actually get some strategy and not just a boring zerg.
At present you win by getting 1 big zerg going around (the devs think its best to have 5 small zergs but this is bs – if you divide your forces the 1 big zerg of the enemy can just run around and wipe all your small zergs 1 by 1 because the maps are stupidly tiny).
The small maps also lead to culling issues being more of a problem.
This will never change. They have said so. The moaners in beta already wanted smaller maps (lol they listened to trolls yeh). There is no chance we get a proper stategic form of open world pvp/war like in planetside 2. So if you dont like zerging then just quit. I have more or less quit wvw for this reason.
Having said that I had fun with wvw. Its fun. Its well designed and the combat is fun. Small maps limit how much replayability this sandbox style has though. And thats for obvious reasons. They are adding content based around progression which is fine for the MMO addicts who need something to aim for. However this is bad for those like me who like strategy and basically just play to own people and have fun.

As a DaoC and Warhammer vet here I’d like to put my two cents in too.
I have mostly ran 1-8 person groups in my WvW/RvR experience. I have to say that I agree with most people that the maps are far too small for the amount of people in them. Also the map design is so vertical that once you’re in a area you have limited options to get away from the zerg. As cool as the maps are I think they need to expand the zones to at least 3 times the size and make them flatter so smaller groups can avoid the massive zergs.
I enjoy the combat system for the most part in this game besides the lack of being about to win an out numbered situation( in small scale combat of course). Realisticly the Battlegrounds of DaoC (Molvik, Liervik, Cathal Valley) are more similar GW2 sytle of WvW pvp than Daoc’s RvR. I think Anet can and should go much grander in the scheme of things when it comes to WvW.
As far kitten Tpvp its just a more basic version of Warhammer Scenario system just more pointless because you cant actually level up through it and the scenarios never change with level.
Overall though as a Solo player goes its not half bad because 70% of the time i can get a fight around a sentry somewhere on the map. Its just whether the person i fight comes alone or with 4-50 of this friends.
I think a New Frontiers style WvW would Increase the potential for WvW action 10 fold at least. If you dont know what i am talking about Youtube “New Frontiers Daoc” and remember this game is 12 years old.

I just hope they release more detailed information soon about the upcoming WvW update and the culling situation.
Doesn’t appear that the majority really agree with what’s going on there at the moment.

big map would kitten WvW up imo.
I think the map design is utterly brilliant and I complimented the devs on it too when I saw the little details that added tons of action.
Some things need improvement, things get contested way to fast for example, would be better if 3+ people were needed to get something contested.

There is no way near enough Oceanic players to justify a whole new scoring bracket. We would probably have 3 really full servers and that’s it…
