WvW is the Game's Main Selling Point
Yet server groups are still imbalanced from the controversial payed server transfer.
Nope, living story is the developers main focus and selling point.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Charr are this game’s main selling point.

No it isn’t. Where did you even get that idea?
Gw2 is a PvE game first and a PvP game second. PvE is where most of the content, focus and attention goes.

Really? That’s not why I purchased the game.
Lol…out of the loop, as usual! =P
Whatever gave you this idea?
wvw is the game’s main selling point?
wha ha ha ha ha what?

Yes! Pve.
Pve have Challenge+Fun: so player spend money and spend a lot of their time enjoy to play.
Wvw- No Fun+No Challenge= Loss Profit+No Profit, No interest to play.

Game has always being unbalanced even before servers transfers.
You can’t stop people from stacking on servers. People would literally delete all theirs chars to change or even buy a new GW2 key for it.
Point is, communitys die as time pass by, at least with transfers we manage to keep a few servers active. Alas, by killing the rest.
The only reason I ever picked the game up was because of WvW.

I like WvWvW, but blob-warfare against incredibly static opponent lists in week long pocket universes that harmlessly fizzle away to nothing is not exactly going out into the greater MMO play space and vacuuming up customers.

Indeed, these are good reasons why WvW won’t ever reach the potential so many of us see in it. Instead, we have to await other startups

same with me and my friends. if all you want to do is pve there are better games for that.
I’m the odd man out here, I bought it because there was no monthly fee.
WvWvW is a war simulation. Its a very good one in fact. Once you get into this it brings about a unique experience that is very hard to duplicate. Coordinating your skills with a team over voice communications vs other groups is fun as hell. Its the most fun iv’e had in any game. Once you get into WvWvW you kind of wonder what you saw in slaying a monster that just shows up in the same spot over and over again. People from all over the world are playing this game and they come from a variety of backgrounds. I know for a fact that some people who play wvw work or have worked in intelligence which makes sense because its a war simulation. Point being you are going to find something like no other!!

WvW was one of the main reasons I finally decided to get the game. I could never really get into pvp because its to small and limiting, but the open world feel and limitless options for gameplay opened up by wvw really appealed to me. Its the most fun Ive ever had in a game.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Same here, WvW is the main reason I still play the game. Not really interested in PvE or PvP at all – this is kind of an end-game for me.
WvW is the only reason I play. But I am 1, and there are many who still play.
If I need to farm gold, I do fotm or world bosses. That money usually gets dumped into my WvW gear, food, siege junk though.
That is it.
Likewise. WvW wasn’t the only reason I bought the game, but it’s the only reason I continue to play it. It’s my endgame.
That said, I’d be hard pressed to claim it’s the game’s main selling point. If the game consisted of only WvW and nothing else, it’s likely GW2 would only work as a F2P game like Planetside 2, with a bunch of time-gated character advancement mechanisms that you can pay to unlock sooner (as well as cosmetic stuff). Maybe that would work, but my instinct is that a game like this needs all the PVE stuff it has in order to continue to attract players that eventually feed into modes like WvW (as well as to attract players that buy things in the gem store, which pays for the existence of things like WvW in the first place). Plus, doing PVE once in a while can be a relaxing break from WvW, IMO.
In response to the OP though, I agree something about payments for server transferring needs to be changed. I don’t know if having all the servers with balanced populations is a likely, or even desirable goal, but it shouldn’t cost the same to transfer to a T1 server as it does to transfer to a T8. In an ideal world, I’d break it down something like:
T1: 2200 gems
T2: 2000 gems
T3: 1800 gems
T4: 1600 gems
T5: 1400 gems
T6: 1200 gems
T7: 1000 gems
T8: 800 gems
This is using NA server tiers as an example. I don’t think you want the lowest tier to be free, because anytime there are free transfers it makes it easy for groups to massively transfer around and it can cause a lot of disruption. But making the lowest tiers the cheapest to transfer to makes a lot of sense.
I don’t know if GW2’s main selling point for everyone was WvW. However for me, the only reason I bought GW2 was WvW.

I’m pretty sure I was asked in the online form for the activation of my account to give the main reason I had for buying the game. So I guess Anet has a first element of answer on this question. Unfortunately, as they do on many subjects, they keep this information to themselves.

Challenge in PvE?!
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

If you want PvE there are way better games for it same for PvP, I came from Vindictus and C9…WvW is the closest thing to open PK.
The Dhuumfire thread
I want to roam around and see activity.. Not entire maps taken over by one server
I make PvP & WvW videos
WvW isnt the main selling point of this game, it’s the only thing we can consider to be endgame material.
And because of the imbalance any new players who finish PvE and try WvW are just thrown into confusion. They are shouted at for using their PvE gear, using an uplevel etc. They do not know what to do as their guild is a PvE guild, WvW guilds run without tags, so they come to a map and wonder where everyone is. They see orange swords, go to join only to be told to go away cos it’s a guild raid.
So yeah, for endgame material for new players, it kidda forces some of them back to PvE or to stop playing.
The new map might help cos yet again the devs did not listen to us and added a kitten tonne more PvE events and mobs to it! But maybe those will slowly get these new players into WvW.
And it’s not the main selling point cos they havent done anything major for it since launch!
