WvW matchups
Hey Khadras,
While the match-up forums have been closed down, a community initiative has sprung up at http://www.gw2wvw.net/forum. It seems pretty active as there’s already a few thousand posts on their forums – might be worth checking out.
We are very close to our 1,000th member with numbers growing everyday.
It’s so springy that the current thread for the matchup we’re in has 5 posts!
Yeah, I’m not gonna bother registering on that site just because anet shut down theirs.
I’d prefer if map chat could be read by all server on the map, and team only by the posters server instead. The mods dont need to moderate it, and peopl ewho are sensitive can activate their filters, and people can continue slagging each other off all day long.

WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.
I can’t believe Arenanet officially endorse that cesspit.

Means one less forum for them to manage, probably.

Yep, Anet remove a sub forum that was a source of entertainment, forcing the community away from their own game site on to a non-official one, all for the sake of avoiding anything less than totally savoury being posted on the main site.
Then they endorse the unoffficial site and encourage people to join.
Sounds like Anet want to kill off wvw with the death of the thousand cuts- step 1, no updates, step 2, remove a major part of the competitive element from the forums step 3 ignore the effects of balance on wvw step 4 ignore how things work in large group battles step 5 continue to have massive lagfests.
The matchup forum was a poisonous brew of trolling, accusation and personal abuse.
Anet did the right thing in closing it down and it was a mistake to even give the impression of endorsing the bandwagon site that’s trying to make a bit of revenue by hosting a version of it.
Dunno what´s your prob with the site? Obviousely you didn´t check it before.
The posts in the MU-Threads there are pretty nice and calm (tbh, I´m talking about the EU-MU-Threads, NA I don´t rly check). Sometimes some heck and funny posts (which belongs to a competitive gamecontent), but rly civilized and friendly – maybe a bit more, than it was here.
So, why so mad?

I can’t believe Arenanet officially endorse that cesspit.
Neither can I! Endorsing that forum is more harmful to Anet than leaving the now-dead WvW matchup forum unsupervised.

I’m pretty sure they shut it down to save money. Nothing to do with the content itself per se, they just didn’t want to pay people to moderate it. NCSoft was behind the shut down no doubt.
He states where the information can be found, I don’t find it’s like Anet endoses it…
“might be worth checking out” is not “it’s a great site, worth checking”
(definition of endorse : To give approval of or support to something, especially by public statement)
If no devs would have posted, someone would have complained that Anet just does not want players to discuss match-ups, or something…
Hey guys! Focus on the fact that we have a red post in WvW forum!
(People really have to complain about everything?)
I can’t believe Arenanet officially endorse that cesspit.
Cesspit? Sorry life isn’t sunshine, butterflies, and positive reinforcement all the time.

Unlikely. When something is published in Anet’s website, Anet is ultimately liable for the content. Unlike other online resources (Reddit, 4Chan, and before it, Usenet), it is a good thing for once that these people feel responsible for the look and feel of the website… as well as the community morals that develop.
The art of fostering an internet community is still very much a grand experiment. Those who have been on the internet since the earliest days understand the difficulties of managing a community.
Nonetheless, the closing of forums is the oldest technique that works. I wonder how many of you remember when LUEsers of GameFAQs was spiraling out of control, left unmoderated for far too long. The poor behavior of LUEsers brought GameFAQs and its parent company under criminal liabilities.
Honestly, a different website is win/win for everyone. You can now curse, swear, and troll your opponents as much as you want without any repercussions. ANet has shed its responsibility of the content of the site and disassociated itself with it. If you yourself don’t like the community operated site, you can pay for your own hosting.
Can’t pay? Too bad, welcome to the real world. People sacrifice time and money to make things work. Welcome to the free market. Honestly, it is ridiculous that so many people want things for free. Yall never maintained your own website and yet make demands and have expectations on how things are run.

The only real cost they have is having to pay mods to scroll through all those posts infracting those which pointed out issues with WvW and the trolls.
And of course the bandwidth required to host the forum.
But for the second, surely the PvE forums take up way more bandwidth and moderating? if they want to save money they should shut those down :P

And if no one in your company wants to be a mod, because the forums in question are filled with hatred and mod complaints, what do you do then?
Its not that simple yo. When all the mods refuse to continue moderating a forum, the only solution is to shut it down. The WvW matchup forum was filled with complaints, and no one ever said a good thing about any of the WvW mods.
Are you really surprised that the mods got tired of that **** and stopped trying? Its not like money can buy moderators the motivation to do their job.
Anyway, if you think its that easy, you’re welcome to start up your own WvW matchup forum. Buy your own domain, buy your own server, and good luck. Gamers are notorious for utilizing hacks to bring down the communication of their opponents.
Mind you, that is a Federal Offense. When the FBI start investigating your servers for malicious hacking reports… and asking for user information so that they can track down hackers… lets see how long you decide to keep your servers up.

Anet is liable to some extent if they provide a link to gw2wvw.net from the official forums.
I, personally, enjoyed the wvw forums and all the trash talk which came along with it. It increased the sense of competition, but gw2wvw.net is just completely different, in a bad way.

You’re all wrong. It was Scarlet. She did it so the sense of community would falter, and then while we’re all trying to kill each other, she’ll come in with her newest evil alliance and take over everything. Then she’ll force us to play Hello Kitty Online.

Preach, dragontamer. I would stand up and applaud if I wasn’t at a client’s office.

If I wasn’t laughing so hysterically I would think you are serious. I mean this is really funny.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
LOL if people can’t deal with online posts by virtually anonymous people then they don’t need to be on the internet, they need more real life in their life.
So basically we cant control our bad players so we just pawn them off.

Heaven forbid someone say something mean in the game where people poison, stab, set each other on fire and shove stakes through each others wounded bodies! :[

Since Josh has already provided an answer to this question, there is no reason to let this thread remain open.
