Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
WvW more like Toypocalypse

More sandbox & player customization is something I can easily agree with. A good amount of players would be happy to actively improve a base or base design by adding functionality, style, defenses, etc. (there’d be too many scouts & sentries afterward!) Building is fun!
I’d, however, avoid the spammable turrets as seen in EOTM, as there’s nothing creative or interesting about it. Instead have certain types of walls with different forms of functionality (add a bucket here, 2 cannon slots, 1 automated turret, 1 doorway, 1 stairwell, etc.) or… flooring. Subtract from the maximum siege you can place when these ‘sidegrades’ are built.
But I imagine all of this to be too much of a burden because of the lack of concern over WvW.
What if you could claim a tower (only one at a time) and get a builders buff, and while the builders buff is active you can use supply to build additional walls, automated ballistas, the works.
…and some of those arches, and overhanging walls, are begging to be lined with buckets of sludge to push onto advancing armies, or buckets of tar for steps!
Admit you’ve recently watched Home Alone.
I’d take Home Alone traps over half the Tower Upgrades we currently got
“Understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth.”
“The objective is to win. The goal is to have fun.”
It’s be nice if more than one trap of the same kind could be active at a time Perhaps 2 or 3?
