I just hit 40 on my Ranger, and would like a change of pace. I would like to try WvW, but have no idea how to get started or what to do…I’m afraid I would just wander around looking like the noob I am. Could someone point me to a nice 101 or getting started guide for WvW ? Maybe something other than an Anet doc, which I have found to be…empty and not very useful.

Thanks!!!

Hit B, enter or queue for a map. I suggest trying your home borderland map maybe and stay away from Eternal Battlegrounds at first, but not totally necessary. Then I would say look for a group or follow a commander icon if someone has one. Never be afraid to ask questions, even if people are not helpful at first, there is usually someone willing to lend a hand. Always have supply, but make sure to try and get it from supply camps if you can. Since supply in keeps or towers can be used for upgrades. Ask in map chat where the main ‘raid’ group is and just follow along to the next objective. Over time you will get more comfortable and be able to contribute more. Just have fun and enjoy it, maybe also try some siege equipment to get familiar with the different kinds and their abilities as well.

But don’ let that overwhelm you. Go in. Follow a zerg around until you learn the ropes. No one will be judging you.

edit: Always grab your 10 supplies from a supply camp. (The tent looking places on the map.. that you own) You should always have 10 supplies on you at all times. (To help build siege and repair walls/doors etc.)

I recently tried WvW for the first time myself, and it’s not as scary as you think. At first, I just ran with a crowd or ran to a big conflict symbol on the map if I knew that was where tons of people would be. I just threw down traps for combo fields and healing spring as often as possible, and tried desperately not to die.

Eventually, I learned where the supply depots are and started running supplies to help finish building siege weapons wherever I could find people building them. I figure the siege weapons were causing us the most problems, so building our team’s siege weapons seems like it would give the enemy the most problems

You will unfortunately have to sort of ignore the calls for help for a while since they keep saying things that aren’t on the map. I’m sure eventually I’ll learn the lingo, but I can stay busy just running supplies and helping the group for now.
