WvW on the right path - Thank you devs
(Supply be unto him)
Hint to other posters in this thread: re-read the first graf,
I will be thankful when I see changes not when I read promises of changes, I am tired of people selling smoke.
I like what i’m reading from them so far, it’s nice to see Mike posting, not an easy thing to do considering how many people are upset about wvw.
+1 to anet for it.
So, after years of ignoring the thousands of posts on these forums giving constructive feedback, the devs finally post elsewhere that they are just beginning to take it seriously. This is supposed to be cause for joy and fanboy cheering? After they ignored all of the pleading for changes to the Deserted Boredom Lands during beta? I’ll believe it when I see the wonderful changes. My bet is on more mini-games, jumping puzzles and PvE gimmicry, because that’s all I’ve actually seen A-Net produce lately. Sorry not to jump on the wishful thinking bandwagon…

nah, not that…. life is short, why spend it upset ? it’s just a game, the foundation for fixing the rules to make it more enjoyable for everyone is doable, we don’t know the whole story….and they are still at it. I mean, consider the odds, one of these days they will want to do something that will make us stop complaining lol…..this could be that time….until then, the reaper and the revenant are fun to play – and we can really only hope they are listening to us.
I think they are, but i also think we scared them enough to only post on reddit !! lol
so let’s show em a supportive side, if nothing else it will fuel our wrath with even more fury if it doesn’t work out so the energy isn’t wasted! heh!!
life is just to short to spend it upset and disillusioned, it’s just a game…..or is it ?
-plays twilight zone music -
honestly we were told this patch was coming after HoT before shatterer and other patches, forgive the community for being skeptical after 3 years of failed promises and zero support, they did after all stay to stick it out despite the many promises that things would get better.
Also let’s not forget that guilds fighting other guilds in WvW was a violation of their game mode, I’m not exactly sure how excited I am meant to feel for WvW if a group of people fighting another group of people in a mass PvP zone is not encouraged but rather discriminated against.
But you know, see how it goes… I’ve been rather happy in PvP since HoT, grinding for class mechanics is not my idea of “fun” in a game, I would rather just get out and get some good fights in after a hard day work, not drone out and grind.
….. And Elementalist.
(edited by sephiroth.4217)
no argument from me, on that….. I’m just saying, it’s not easy to enjoy anything when we are always upset. that’s it really. The players are half the game, and you guys would simply be scary to play with if you were always upset lol.
I have tons i could be upset about too, like ….my jeweler….why isn’t he making ascended jewelry ? – but i wont go there because being upset wont make the game any more fun. so i’m just saying my part because i think it’s something that may bring peace to a community, that has been rightfully upset for feeling ignored for many years. We are still here, let’s run with that and try to have fun along the way.
pure moment of zen – why play a game at all if it makes you upset.
Arenanet doesn’t play WvW, right?
In your backline: Elementalist+Mesmer+Necromancer
it figures, they joined the high population servers lol -smh-
server pride ftw!! – NOT!! come to the lower teirs where you don’t have the comfort of 300 raving pvers in a zerg protecting you. Not for the light hearted down here!!
Lose the safety net, then come back and talk!! Till then -the hand-
a REAL PVPr doesn’t have pretty soft skin!! come to t3 and get some scars for credibility!

actually, the main concern isn’t anet not doing anything, but rather, the wrong priorities which ultimately lead to a very sorry state.

This DrStephen guy seems legit, but I’ve never seen him post before. He could have said all that about ‘we tried to go too big so now we’re going smaller’ a month ago, if not more. He could have said ‘X,Y, and Z are problems and we want to fix them, even if we have nothing planned atm’ and it would have eased the pain. He could have explained why the maps aren’t on rotation on HoT release.
The silence hurt, and it’s still eroding the playerbase. It doesn’t matter how good their intentions are if nobody knows about them. Also, due to lack of communication over what turns out to be reasonable errors, they have a serious trust problem now.
just remember this, in game, linen is far more expensive and precious than gold, and gold is pretty much useless lol. All the rules are a bit off, we just need them to be off in a way most of us find fun.

I don’t know how you can tell the path is the right one when they haven’t even told us where it leads.
~ There is no balance team. ~
The right path would be a back to the old maps, cutting siege deployment by 80%, going back to the old upgrade and camp system, no more teleports into keeps, more points for stomps and class balancing for wvw

It is a change we have asked for, it is out in the open and they given us information, and they shall have credit for this. Them talking to us giving info is a big step, that we have asked and begged for, for years.
How ever i will wait this out. I been disappointed before and until the talks turn in to actions i wont put much effort in to hopes and hypes. It is definitely a good start and something we wanted for so long and i appreciate it so far and that is as much as you get from me at this point.
Looking forward to even more changes to wvw. So tired of encountering others players there….
Talk is cheap..
I will believe it when I see it and not before…..
A.Net promises a lot and delivers nothing.
Also let’s not forget that guilds fighting other guilds in WvW was a violation of their game mode, I’m not exactly sure how excited I am meant to feel for WvW if a group of people fighting another group of people in a mass PvP zone is not encouraged but rather discriminated against.
Let it go already. That was 2 years ago and anet gave a reply basically saying they were wrong and was sorry for what happened.
This should have been the end of that topic because it was said by a dev:
“Simply put a big mistake was made by one of our employees, for which he is both very upset and sorry. He allowed his personal feelings to affect his interactions in-game whilst representing ArenaNet, and this is absolutely unacceptable.”
But no!!! Even after 2 years and an apology it is still brought up. You only hear the part where the dev says players were violating the game mode.. You never hear the part where anet came in and apologized.
WOW – if the OP thinks WvW is on the right path, he hasn’t really played WvW.
I’ll keep this short…
Anet, talk is cheap.
Not sure what the OP is talking about. According to the announcements, they’re on exactly the same path they were on before this new hype train.
One example shows it all: Their intention is still to put in all the failed features of HoT into the Alpine BL.
Dusty and Kuru – By “right path” I mean that we have commitments to at least some actions that will help us get on track. We are nowhere close and I am not hyped or optimistic that we will get a perfect end result. My point is that for once we need to stop just complaining and yelling “OMG Anet killed WvW” every time they say anything. That behavior forces them to not talk to us and keep hiding what they are doing since someone always reacts negatively.
I don’t think one big update will fix everything, just like I don’t think reverting the changes will fix everything. Look back 6 months or more on the forums and you’ll see threads complaining about a different set of problems. I’m not expecting anything amazing, but this is our last chance as a community to save the game mode so I I’d rather we do it step by step, evaluate what works and doesn’t, and communicate both ways. The dev responses on the AMA suggested that is the general philosophy moving forward with WvW, and that is the first step (of many) in the right direction.
(Supply be unto him)
" “OMG Anet killed WvW” every time they say anything."
=Memo=
pvprs never stop pvp’ng – they only pause after a fair fight, but even then it’s just to boast about their win. A pvpr that feels disrespected is not pretty! But anet wants esports, so …..
embrace their feisty-ness! it’s just a game……..or is it ?! -twilight zone muzak-
think of it like this, if anet were the starship enterprise, and they wanted an alliance with the klingons, anet can’t get offended everytime a klingon calls them a P’tak. Well, consider the wvw’rs borg! borg, zerg…see the uncanny relation ?! 0.o

This is their standard procedure when they feel they need to hype something. They come in to the forums (or reddit in this case) in a big show of force and make it sound like exciting things are happening. Then they vanish into thin air.
Worse yet, read their comments again: they have actually not changed direction at all with respect to WvW. They are still committed to the exact same failed features. They haven’t even bothered to change (again) their nonsensical excuse for reset on Saturday.
“We still intend to eventually bring back the Alpine Borderlands map, but it’s not as simple as just toggling it back on. We don’t have the tech for rotating between the two borderlands built yet, and the map itself required a significant amount of content updates to support all of the features that were added to WvW as part of the HoT update.”
This is not the right path. Don’t touch those sacred maps with that PvE crap.
Not sure what the OP is talking about. According to the announcements, they’re on exactly the same path they were on before this new hype train.

Might want to give better feedback before calling everything a failure. This is the problem with many of the threads. Some of you complain yet never actually give a solution on what you are complaining about. I don’t care about the past feedback as its pretty clear to me now that they are trying to listen. As far as I can see you saw nothing good from HoT because to you everything is a failure. Here I’m going to show you how to do it.
What I’d like to see removed/changed about the new map are the barriers, pop up walls and whatever applies cripple to me when no players are not around. Things like these only make it harder to move around the maps. Too many high places to fall from which again make it harder to move around the maps. Maps are a little too big as there are places I’ve haven’t even been to because there are no reason to even go there. Middle event either needs to be removed or changed into something else as it favors the larger servers mostly. Can’t think of anything else off top..
wow that was hard giving feedback…

Sorry – they have been talking about WvW changes for 3 years and what do we get? EotM and more PvE in WvW. I will believe it when I see it.
They need to actually do something rather than talk , talk is cheap.
Sorry OP, but we have been promised this before. You know the old adage, ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me’.
A.Net, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.
Also let’s not forget that guilds fighting other guilds in WvW was a violation of their game mode, I’m not exactly sure how excited I am meant to feel for WvW if a group of people fighting another group of people in a mass PvP zone is not encouraged but rather discriminated against.

I did let it go and it was in context to the rest of what I was saying before you removed it for your own personal argument.
The point I was making because you seemed to have missed it, was that players have asked for a million changes that would encourage PvP in a mass PvP zone or made suggestions to improve WvW but rather instead we get Airships, Mass Stealth Fountains and a map that’s more deadly than an enemy player. We had CDI threads asking the community for changes we thought would improve EotM and the BL maps before they were released, just about everyone made similar suggestions but nothing was implemented.
Maybe instead of saying Guilds fighting other Guilds in WvW was a violation I probably should have said “If you’re into WvW, typically you’re into PvE” – Mike Video reference
So a definition of the word Typically: Exhibiting the qualities, traits, or characteristics that identify a kind, class, group, or category.
He is saying that WvW was never meant to be a mass PvP zone, it was meant to be a PvE map that you could get ganked on, which last time I checked it’s not what the WvW community wanted. We don’t need to continue this argument because this was my opinion from my perspective, I understand you’re just trying to fisty cuff over the internet but I won’t be able to continue this discussion with you if you’re going to continue posting for the sake of an argument.

you still left out the part where they said sorry for what happened making it look like they just don’t care.
2 years ago I was having a 3 vs 3 against some enemies. All of the sudden the 3rd servers zerg came and wiped all 6 of us. They even spammed emotes on us and tossed siege on my body. Talk about being violated.

Opening a line of communication was a step in the right direction, though doing so on the official forums would have been more appropriate.
If they had given more solid information I’d have been happier, they mostly just reiterated what they’ve said in the past, though the information of the open live beta starting some time after the April update is good to know. But again, it’s a lot of “soon” and “when we can”. A general idea of when the blog post will go up would have been enough to satiate many people.
I agree that troll posts were a terrible idea, spamming them with useful, polite questions might have given more answers but to be fair, it has been a long time since any communications were open so people will vent their anger and impatience regardless. I’m not saying it’s right, but completely understandable.
Worse yet, read their comments again: they have actually not changed direction at all with respect to WvW. They are still committed to the exact same failed features. They haven’t even bothered to change (again) their nonsensical excuse for reset on Saturday.
They are at least going to make changes to the desert BL.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
They are at least going to make changes to the desert BL.
And reducing line of sight blockers. Both of which will make me quite happy.

I know you keep cutting out little paragraphs for yourself for your own little argument which is why I’m going to ask you to re-read the first paragraph of what I originally said because the point seems to be completely lost on you, hopefully you have heard the expression “don’t get dragged down to their level, they will only beat you with experience” and will understand why I won’t be replying to our “discussion” any longer.

The difference is before we were ignored and you know what they have already changed some things since HoT that were suggested by players so in a way they started to listen more after HoT came into play. Maybe we will be ignored again but to me after reading that thread it seems they are aware they messed up and want to make wvw better now. Like I said in another post, please forget about all the past ONE last time and try to provide feedback on what you would like changed. Sticking around complaining and providing nothing but complaints gets us nothing. If you can’t at least do that one more time and see if they actually listen this time then feel free to continue to provide nothing. To me it seems you are no longer having fun so you are doing what ever you can to make it not fun for anyone.

Thanks bro. Hopefully others stop replying as well or actually provide some feedback on changes they’d like to see instead of dwelling over the past changes we never got.
Also good edit on your other post to again bring up something from the past that was said and it turns out that that statement was more true than false.. When HoT launched WvW was empty because most players were in PVE-land doing the new PVE stuff.
The 5 “I only play wvw” players were only ones in wvw wondering where all the other I only wvw players were at..
(edited by briggah.7910)
I am certain this post will draw out the trolls in the community (the same ones who take to the forums and Reddit to attack devs), but someone needs to speak up for the part of the WvW community who support what has been announced today through the AMA and other sources. I am all for trolling (Maguuman WvW player since beta) but many of the comments I have seen today were simply disrespectful and unnecessary. Today we had a chance to provide valuable feedback but it got drowned out in a flood of people venting.
While I agree with the spirit of your post Veles, do not forget that they still haven’t told us anything.
Stating that there is a population imbalance that needs to be adressed is as overt as stating that water is wet or sunshine makes you warm.
We need to be told early how they intend to adress it so we can help out before more resources are sunk into something they have to roll back again, when we react to it.
After reading the AMA highlights, One thing I would suggest is to get players back into WvW before adjusting population. If population adjustments happen first then its very possible that an influx of old players coming back to the game could unbalance things all over again. Just my 2 cents.

ANet still thinks that is has all the time to fix WvW…every week without fixing WvW is fatal but they talk about a production cycle of MONTHS…lol.
I spent four hours on Friday, trying to fix a corrupted web page. Everything I tried failed to fix it.
Then I finally found the problem: a single comma in one page of code, buried at line 225.
I realized then that 10,000 pages of code, particularly ones built quickly, would yield equally frustrating hours.
I fully understand your frustration. It’s good you care about the game. But there’s also real people at the other end of those attacks, and I truly wish folks would find more adult ways to communicate.
I also suspect they had a plan ready, it got leaked, there was uproar, then they were brave enough to scrap it and start again. I’d much rather a different approach than the disastrous EoTM for all of WvW. Feel like we dodged a bullet on that one.
