WvW should never be "full"
^ reported.
I agree. It’s extremely frustrating I spent hours and hours leveling a character up to 80 to find that WvW is NOTHING like the potential it showed itself to be. Don’t like zerging? Don’t worry there are thieves to 1v1. Ganking/Escorting Dolyaks, PTFO – What for? And who plays WvW for unique personal rewards unobtainable in PvE or sPvP right? Apparently fractals is so “hard” it warrants its own set of skins, but of course WvW is so easy when you’re a thief. Heck, I’d be satisfied with the same rate of rare drops as fractals at this point. Also speaking of skins, Eternity requires two legendaries to make it look different from day and night, yet nobody thought day and night combat would be interesting in WvW. Maps created with strategy and flanking in mind, with hidden corners or areas to get temporary stealth or swiftness boosts, or destructible environment that can do damage or temporarily block/make choke points, or even a JP in certain areas of maps to get to strategic/vantage points, who needs any of that stuff, you know? And of course those random mobs out in the world that do nothing important in combat except the occasionally planned rally, but is actually in place by that anet guy who came up with the idea of CnD. With all the heart quests that require feeding dolyaks and cows, why couldn’t the same concept be implemented to the giant wurms in BL so that they can be “tamed” to protect that passage way? And so much running, it’s all part of the gameplay they say, yet some professions have passive 25% boosts while others can enjoy constant weapon swapping or just watch TV. Nobody was apparently smart enough to think of something like having a built-with-supply portal device that needs to be attacked/defended while zergs engage in mindless charging and running games with each other. OMG I just made thief’s stealth useful for something other than backstabbing. Let’s not forget the completely unaddressed, increasingly more rampant wallclimbers that destroy towers and siege equipment by one lonesome, and don’t even get me started on professions and combat gameplay.
I remember all the incredible hype developers personally showed with things like traps and unique features that only GW2 has in gameplay. Yet while all of that exists in PvE in some form or another, they slap themselves in the face and go ten steps backwards in WvW. Now they hype about the upcoming biggest quantity update that’s probably just more ascended gear, new skins, and new explorable areas (Notice the common denominator? PvE) but I doubt they’ll do anything about the quality of WvW (or sPvP for that matter, but I don’t even go there).
People complaining about full maps? You should be grateful that your server still have an active wvw population instead.
And rainbows drop gold buckets at the end of their color bands too.
Maps are full because of the flaw that is human….we can make great toys for people to play on, but we haven’t quite figured out how to make computer systems that can keep up with the amount of people that can play on a blade server.
AKA, computers are limited to hardware and imaginations have no limits.

Rather than complain, maybe we could use this thread for something more constructive. Would anyone like to make suggestions of servers having few or no queues into WvW?
(Just nobody transfer off of Kaineng… okay?)

Sry but very baaaaaaaaaaaaaad idea. Zergs would get even bigger than they actually are.
That if a unskilled server would do if they cant win 1vs1 against another server even tough the server has queue? It would gather the whole wvw for a 500 men zerg and this would be ridiculous. btw you wouldn’t even take notice because of the culling you just see like 50 ^^

And you should also reflect on the fact that the map cap is not equal divided between the factions, who first arrive in WvW, first take slots.

Here’s a thought. Go to a server without queues. There’s a lot of them.

Wrong. Not true at all. False information.
- How many players can one map contain?
As many as we can fit without causing too much stress on the servers. We can’t be more specific than that, but I can assure everyone that the cap is definitely split equally between all three worlds.
We have heard multiple reports for months about people being queued for a map and entering it only to have the outmanned buff, but unfortunately we’ve never been able to verify ways that could be occurring. I’m not saying it isn’t happening, but we haven’t ever been able to reproduce the problem, and if we can’t reproduce the core problem, it makes it basically impossible for us to find and fix the bug

What’s a queue?

I agree.
I’ve heard people say that we don’t need more maps because “we wouldn’t be able to fill them up”.
Good! Why do you want to fill up maps?? All that means is that there is a queue.
I thought Planetside did well in that the total number of players per map + total number of maps exceeded the number of players who could be logged in — that is, it was IMPOSSIBLE to fill all maps, by design. This meant that there was always somewhere else to go. If players were full up in maps A and B and partially full on C, you could still launch a new front in maps D or E. Granted, launching a new front with any effectiveness would mean you’d need your own sizable guild to roll with but at least the option was there.
In GW2, we often don’t have that option. Maps A-D may all be full. There is nowhere else to go. I’m worried that the February WvW patch will bring this to a head and the old 4-hour queues will come back to visit us.
I would really prefer more maps. It’s fun to play on a full map but sometimes it’s also fun to have another option available.

Sure as long as it doesn’t just become more PvDoor.
Sure as long as it doesn’t just become more PvDoor.
Incidentally, that was another problem that other big “WvW” type games have had to solve: how to generate PvP instead of “round robin capping” where players basically avoided each other and instead farmed rewards til they all got bored and quit.
Planetside implemented a lattice system. Fort A <—→ Fort B. You must own B to attack A. If you lose A while attacking B, you can no longer take B. They also implemented a “rewards based on violence” system. If you take B and nobody is home, you get very little for it as a reward. If you take B after a 30 minute battle with enough “unique kills” (i.e., not 1 person 50 times, but 50 people at least one time each) then you get maximum reward.
GW2 is basically what Planetside was on day 1, with many of the same mistakes. PvDoor is the result of these mistakes.
(Battleground Europe aka World War 2 Online also had this problem and also implemented a “lattice” type system to focus players into each other instead of into random back-capping where nobody was home.)

Dear god no. WvW is already a contest of “whose server has more people in WvW”
we don’t need to make population even more important.
WvW should always be full.
If it isn’t full the largest zerg wins be default.
lmao imagine 100 vs 500
ultimate culling = unlimited nerd rage
annihilation is inevitable
resitance is futile
higher limit is not a good idea for now. maybe if there were more wvw players on all servers and on (almost) all servers you had queues 12+ hours a day, only then should they consider this.
[…]
You forgot that, unlike PS2, GW2 has something called PVE and that quite a lot of people still do that.
If the entire game of GW2 would be JUST World vs World, then I’m pretty sure the limit would’ve been higher in the first place.

If they allowed unlimited maps, might as well put on a blindfold and give you a tail to pin on a donkey, the culling would amount to you swiping at the air and hoping you hit something.
