I had been playing GW2 for some time now mostly PVE. The community is usually nice and friendly, atleast for the times when I have been on.

Recently I decided that I would want to start playing some PVP here. So i decided to go WvW. I was capping this point called carver’s accent (looked it up and it is one of those Ruins of Power in the middle of the map)… Anyways I was with 2 other people and after we captured the point one of them took off. I was with this other guy that told me to get off the cap and said that he ‘needed the cap’. Some people came and killed us and the guy i was with called me all sorts of stuff… but anyways

can anyone kindly tell me why this is so? would it matter to have 1 or more players on the cap?

I…. don’t even know where to begin. First off you guys were trying to cap bloodlust which requires you to cap 3 of them at the same time. don’t bother with bloodlust until you learn the basics, odds are your server already had the buff anyway.

Best advice I can give you is figure out who the WvW guilds are on your server and join up with one of them. They will help show you the ropes. What server are you on?

Not sure exactly what happened, but when you enter this Ruin you will see a timer which are counting and at the same time on the ground in your Borderlands colour a ticking clock. You have to wait until timer have been finished to get the reward from Daily AP (and Chest) as that is the capping of these Ruins. When there are several player trying to cap the same Ruin and one or more are under attack, then this timer will stop until attacker being killed (and player standing in circle of the Ruin again) which is the point of capping these Ruins.

The other player being rude towards you have no reason to actually expect to just being able to cap this point each time for his/hers Daily AP (+chest) without getting under attack and forced to defend it, so I would just ignore that person and if that person would happen to use a very abusive language – then just report this to ANet as nobody should ever have to be feeling bad just playing this game.

EDIT: Bloodlust [buff for your BL] (where you must cap three Ruins at the same time) will have the same mechanics as above and need some coordination between player to cap within the time limit three Ruins. But as above poster have said: A) as Daily AP it is high probability that your server already had this buff without any intentional work as many player are going to get this AP at the same time on three Ruins bad people exist everywhere in real world and in this game, so ignore those ppl or just report them and move on C) look up on Internet for which Guilds there might be on your server and read up on how WvW work, if they have some kind of web forum/site.

My advice is go into WvW during primetime and ask around for the community guild, most have one like my server Piken Square has Stomp for Piken [PS] which is aimed at Piken diehards and new players alike.

I’m sure your server has a similar guild and will mostl ikely provide you with the communities Teamspeak VOIP details so you can get to know the guys you’re with.

As for people screaming insults at you just ignore them, they probably suck and get continually owned which is whythey are in a bad mood.

Yes and look up a map with a blue commander flag and follow it.

Id also suggest perhaps trying the Eternal Battleground to start. I dont know how it is on Blackgate but most the servers i have been on usually consider EBG the more casual of the wvw maps. It is easier to get around, and people there usually dont seem as serious as the borderlands.

basically he told you to get off, so that the ruin would decap by itself(since nobody is on) then he will recap it for his own daily. But he doesn’t seem to realise that it’s probably faster for him to just run to another ruin and cap that.

Also multiple people can do the “master of ruins” daily achievement at the same time, so not sure why that person didn’t just get on the ruins at the same time as you. Unless he/she is a player from the opposing server?

The ruins where you experienced this was an attempt at bringing more sPvP-like map features into WvW so that WvW players would feel more comfortable moving to that failed game mode from WvW.

Nowadays, it’s only used by people to get their dailies. Hence the guy wanting you to move away.
