I’m just going to call it. One of the reasons that WvW is going to stay dead, is that in order to get your elite in any reasonable amount of time you have to go do hero challenges, in pve.
There’s no contest here. It’s simply much faster to do these in the jungle. I don’t even have any masteries beyond gliding and I can see this.
In order to build your character, you HAVE to go pve, which means all that time chasing mastery grind for a number of hero challenges, and then doing the hero challenges takes away from playing in WvW and players will have to do this on every single character.
Up until now you never had to step foot in pve in order to build your character. You could craft, use tomes, buy armor / weapons. This elite master building is going to keep people out of WvW and they need to reverse the elite change.
I really wish they had given us some way to retroactively use our EARNED ranks in wvw, or at least some of them to get the proofs for the hero points. For those of us who were already maxed out, those excess ranks are still basically worthless :/. The new map is also not encouraging to many people, some will just stay in EB or wait till the alpine maps come back.
I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

So much this. Also the rate at which you gain ranks, is not equal to the rate at which you can go do mastery hero challenges, and the sick thing is after you have all the mastery challenges done, you don’t have to do them on alts. Yet in WvW each toon has to do the 25-50 rank grind.
The masteries are account wide thankfully, the hero points though are by character, which means for those like me who have each profession we have to grind out all those hp’s to unlock the elites, so yea its gonna keep people busy for awhile. Taking into consideration time for people to get comfortable with trying out the new elites, traits, builds, setups etc, theres gonna be even more time before everything settles down.

Its a lot better then the 400 originally implemented, but keep in mind those who have alts and have to regrind ranks/hps over and over. That might frustrate some people, for one or two toons, yea no biggie, for more alts well different story.

Agreed… I completed my elite in 3 or 4 days and I play 1 or 2 hours a day… now that it is 250 you can get it pretty fast… I got some HP in the new maps and farmed most in Eotm.
I unlocked herald on a new revenant from friday (launch day) until monday when it still costed 400 hero points (and all the mistward armor skins). They are 250 now, it’s really not a big deal anymore. Especially considering masteries are acc bound and you can also get hero points from WvW (you can save the chests and transfer it to an alt). Just remember that it’s a new expansion and it should last for another 1,5 year or 2 years so if you have to spend few days now to unlock things, is it really that bad? You always have to level in other games when an expansion comes out
As much as I agree that it would be great to have something in WvW that’s on par (time wise) you can unlock your Elite in a day in HoT. I know thats not the answer you want to hear but if you reallly want your elite you may as well just bite the bullet and do HoT.
WvW has always been the PvP playground for PvE. That’s why you can have food buffs, ascended gear, etc. Sinking time into doing some amount of PvE to “gear your gear” has been part of it since the beginning.
Now, it’s been a part I’ve largely ignored because I just settle for Exotic armor/weapons and let the Ascended jewelry come in as time goes by, but character grind has always, always, always been a factor. If you want instant character progression gratification, go into the competitive sPvP world. Otherwise, this is just the world you live in.
